Campgrounds near Russellville, Kentucky
Russellville sits in Logan County in south-central Kentucky, roughly midway between Bowling Green and the Tennessee line. The town works as a practical base for RV travelers heading to the Pennyrile region's lakes, caves, and rolling farm country, with drivable access to Barren River Lake, Lake Malone, and the northern edge of Tennessee's Land Between the Lakes.
The closest public option is Lake Malone State Park Campground, located about 22 miles north of Russellville near Dunmor. It anchors a 788-acre lake ringed by sandstone bluffs and hardwood forest, and is the main draw for boaters and anglers in the immediate area.
Private RV parks fill in the gaps for travelers who want full hookups, longer stays, or a quieter roadside stop. Dad's Bluegrass Campground, Gregory Lake RV Park, Spring Creek Camp Ground, and Spring Creek Campground round out the local options and tend to book more predictably than the state park on summer weekends.
Things to do near Russellville
Lake Malone is the region's centerpiece for on-water recreation. The lake is stocked with largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill and channel catfish, and the park offers a boat ramp, camping, beach, picnicking, and playgrounds. The 338-acre park surrounds a 788-acre lake, with hiking through forest thick with hardwood trees, holly, mountain laurel and tall pines, and steep sandstone bluffs above the water.
Off the water, Russellville itself has a walkable historic downtown with the Bibb House Museum and the site of the Jesse James bank robbery. Day trips reach Shaker Village at South Union, the Historic RailPark in Bowling Green, and the National Corvette Museum. Mammoth Cave National Park is about an hour northeast for guided cave tours, surface trails, and Green River paddling.
Families with kids will find swim beaches, playgrounds, and easy nature trails at the state park, plus mini-golf and go-karts in Bowling Green.

The Lake Malone State Park campground is typically open from mid-March through the end of October, which mirrors the broader Kentucky State Park camping calendar. Private parks in the area, including Dad's Bluegrass Campground and Gregory Lake RV Park, generally operate on longer shoulder seasons and some stay open year-round for self-contained rigs.
Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel. The weather is pleasant during spring and fall, and the surrounding foliage creates a strong backdrop for outdoor activities. Summer brings heat, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms, and the campground can get crowded during summer weekends and holidays.
Winter is quiet. Kentucky State Parks cannot guarantee water availability at campgrounds during months when freezing temperatures are possible, so travelers should contact the park directly for available resources during cold-weather stays. Burn bans can be in effect at any time of year during dry stretches.
How to book near Russellville
Reservations at Lake Malone State Park are handled through the Kentucky State Parks reservation system, and booking ahead is advisable during peak seasons and on weekends. The system runs on ReserveAmerica. The maximum reservation window is 12 months in advance to the date, with new inventory released when the call center opens.
There is a one-night minimum stay during the week at all Kentucky state parks, and arrivals on Friday or Saturday require a minimum two-night stay on peak-season weekends. Longer minimum stays are required at most campgrounds during holiday periods.
Private parks such as Dad's Bluegrass Campground, Gregory Lake RV Park, Spring Creek Camp Ground, and Spring Creek Campground take bookings directly by phone or through their own websites. Confirm rig-length limits, hookup type, and check-in windows before arrival, especially for pull-through sites.
What to expect at Russellville campgrounds
Lake Malone State Park offers standard state-park infrastructure. Sites include electric and water hookups, picnic tables, fire rings, and access to restroom and shower facilities, along with a playground and boat ramp. Amenities include showers and a sanitary dump station. Cell coverage in the surrounding hills can be spotty.
Lake Malone sits about 22 miles north of Russellville and 15 miles south of Greenville, on winding two-lane roads. Large rigs should plan the final approach carefully. The campground operates on Central Time.
A few rules to note: Kentucky restricts bringing firewood into the state from elsewhere to help prevent the spread of forest pests. Firewood is generally available for purchase locally. Poison ivy and ticks are present in the woods, so appropriate clothing and insect repellent are recommended.

parks.ky.gov/dunmor/parks/recreation/lake-malone-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Russellville?

Delivery fees are usually based on mileage from the host's home base. Filter by Delivery on the search page to see hosts who offer it. Pro tip: a delivered setup means you can fly into Nashville BNA, rent a car, and meet your RV already parked and ready.

parks.ky.gov/dunmor/parks/recreation/lake-malone-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip in Russellville?
Russellville shines from mid-April through late October, with the sweet spots being May, early June, September, and October. Spring days run 65-80°F with blooming dogwoods, while October brings crisp 55-75°F afternoons and fiery fall color across Logan County's rolling hills. July and August get genuinely hot (often 88-95°F with high humidity), but that's prime lake season at Barren River and Lake Malone. Winters are mild compared to northern states, usually 30-50°F, and many RVezy hosts rent year-round with heated tanks. Pro tip: time your visit for the second Saturday in October to catch the Logan County Tobacco & Heritage Festival, a 60-year tradition with parades and live music.
weather.gov/lmk/I'm first time renting an RV in Russellville. Will I get help figuring it out?
You will not be left to figure things out alone. Many hosts in the Russellville area also send a personalized walkthrough video before your trip so you arrive already familiar. Help is built into every booking. RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the renter protection plan on every reservation, so if you get a flat on the Natcher Parkway, lock the keys inside at Bailey's Point, or have a battery issue at Lake Malone, one call dispatches a technician. Your host is also typically a text away to troubleshoot smaller issues like a tripped breaker or finicky water pump, and RVezy customer support is available throughout your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number to your phone before leaving town and snap a photo of the RV's VIN at pickup so any call goes quickly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008594-What-is-included-with-roadside-assistanceCan I take my Russellville RV rental across state lines?
Yes, interstate travel is one of the best parts of an RV rental in Russellville, KY. The town sits about 12 miles north of the Tennessee state line, putting Nashville, the Cumberland River, and even Memphis (around 220 miles) within easy reach. Most RVezy hosts allow travel into Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, and beyond. Confirm during messaging since some hosts set personal mileage or geographic limits. RVezy insurance coverage is valid in the US and Canada, so cross-border travel into Mexico is not permitted. Pro tip: a classic loop from Russellville heads south to Nashville, west to Land Between the Lakes, and back through Bowling Green for a four-night, three-state circuit.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Russellville RV road trip?
Fuel is easy to plan for around Russellville because Kentucky gas prices tend to run below the national average, often $2.90-$3.30 per gallon for regular unleaded in Logan County. Class C motorhomes typically get 8-10 MPG, Class B campervans 16-20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10-14 MPG combined). A weekend round-trip to Mammoth Cave (130 miles) in a Class C costs roughly $45-$55 in fuel. There's a Pilot truck stop just off I-65 in Franklin and several stations along US-68 with easy RV access. Pro tip: use the GasBuddy app and fuel up in Russellville before heading toward Lake Malone, where prices climb a few cents per gallon.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Russellville?
For the most popular spots, plan ahead but don't stress: Lake Malone State Park accepts reservations up to one year in advance through the Kentucky State Parks reservation system, and Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day weekends often book up 3-6 months out. Bailey's Point and Barren River Tailwater (US Army Corps of Engineers) take bookings through Recreation.gov, also up to six months ahead. Russellville RV Park and Western Kentucky RV Park in Central City are usually easier to grab a few weeks out. Pro tip: confirm your RVezy booking first, then immediately reserve your campsite so your dates line up perfectly with the right rig.
parks.ky.gov/What are driving conditions like around Russellville?
Driving an RV around Russellville is refreshingly easy compared to bigger metros. The town sits at about 590 feet elevation in gently rolling farmland, with wide rural roads like US-68/80, US-79, and US-431 making turns and pull-offs manageable even for a 30-foot Class C. The William H. Natcher Parkway (a free four-lane connecting to Bowling Green) is a relaxed RV-friendly run. Watch for occasional farm equipment in spring and fall, and summer thunderstorms can drop heavy rain quickly. Pro tip: avoid the narrow brick streets in historic downtown Russellville with anything over 25 feet, and use the Walmart on Nashville Street as an easy stop for last-minute supplies before heading out.
transportation.ky.gov/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Russellville?

You'll feel right at home. A typical motorhome rental Russellville comes equipped with a queen or king bed, convertible dinette or bunks, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet, roof air conditioning, a furnace for chilly Kentucky nights, and seatbelts for travel passengers. Most rigs include a TV, and many hosts now add Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor speakers, and onboard generators perfect for boondocking near Lake Malone. Campervan rental Russellville options usually pack the same essentials into a smaller Class B footprint. Pro tip: check the listing's amenity list and message the host to confirm linens and kitchenware are included; most provide both.
rvezy.com/Are there extra fees or add-ons I should know about?
RVezy listings in Russellville are transparent about pricing, so you'll see add-ons clearly before you book. Popular options include generator hours (often $3-$5 per hour beyond a free daily allowance), bike racks, kayak racks, camp chairs and tables, propane refills, dump/cleaning service ($75-$150 if you'd rather skip it), and pet fees. Hosts set their own mileage policies, typically 100-150 free miles per day with $0.30-$0.50 per extra mile, and pickup/dropoff happens at the host's address or via paid delivery. Pro tip: bundle add-ons like bikes and outdoor gear when you book, since many hosts in the Russellville area offer package discounts on multi-night family RV trip Russellville reservations.
rvezy.com/How does payment and the security deposit work for a Russellville RV rental?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy at checkout with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. A refundable security deposit is held separately before pickup (amount set by the host based on the RV's value) and released after your trip once the host confirms the RV was returned in good condition. The deposit is separate from your booking payment and the renter protection plan. Pro tip: take a quick walk-around video at pickup and dropoff showing the exterior, interior, and odometer. It takes two minutes and is the best way to ensure a smooth deposit return on your Russellville RV rental.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat local attractions should I plan around my Russellville RV trip?
You are parked in the middle of more history and outdoors than most people realize. Visit the SEEK Museum downtown for stories of Struggles for Emancipation and Equality in Kentucky, tour South Union Shaker Village (about 10 miles east in Auburn) to see one of the largest Shaker collections in the country, and stop by the Old Southern Bank of Russellville, famously robbed by Jesse James and his gang in 1868. Sample local pours at Carriage House Vineyards or a Logan County distillery. Pro tip: time your visit for the Logan County Tobacco & Heritage Festival in October to enjoy a small-town parade and live music you will not find near Louisville or Lexington.
