Campgrounds and RV parks near Summersville, KY

The lake is the main draw. Green River Lake State Park has a sand swim beach, mini golf, and twenty eight miles of multiple use trails for hiking, horses, and biking. Green River Marina next to the park handles boat, pontoon, houseboat, and floating cabin rentals, and Green River Stables next to the park offers horse rentals and horse camping. West of Summersville, the Mammoth Cave area adds cave tours, hiking, and family attractions. Guests staying at Horse Cave KOA Holiday are within easy reach of Mammoth Cave National Park and Hart County attractions, and the campground itself offers a swimming pool, mini golf, a jumping pillow, a fishing pond, and a playground. North of the city, the Kentucky Bourbon Trail is within reasonable range for a day trip from any of the local RV parks.

The primary camping window at Green River Lake follows the state park schedule. Campground reservations are available from April 1 to October 31, and shoulder-season travelers should contact the park directly, since camping after peak season ends requires calling the park at 270-465-8255. Summer weekends fill first, especially around Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day. Spring brings mild temperatures and higher rainfall, with wildflowers along the trails and cool lake water. Summer is hot and humid, and the water sports season peaks; expect afternoon thunderstorms, with July typically the wettest month locally. Fall trends drier, especially in September, and pairs well with color along the ridges above the lake. Winter is quiet. The state park campground is outside the reservation window, but Kentucky State Parks note that year-round campgrounds cannot guarantee water during freezing weather. Private parks near town, such as Green County RV Park, Green Country RV Park, and Heartland RV Park, are the best options for travelers passing through on I-65 or heading to bourbon country.

At Green River Lake State Park, sites are wooded, most have standard electric, and pets are welcome on leash. Rules to plan around: one RV per site due to electric restrictions, quiet time begins at 11:00 pm and generators may not be operated during those hours, and max units per site is two, which may include one camper unit and one tent. Kentucky State Parks prohibit the importation of firewood from outside Kentucky to help prevent the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer, and firewood is available for sale in the state park campgrounds. Horse Cave KOA Holiday offers full-hookup RV sites with 50/30 amp service, camping cabins, wagons, teepees, and treehouses, plus a seasonal pool open Memorial Day to Labor Day, mini golf, a jumping pillow, and a fishing pond. The site sits just off I-65, so expect some highway noise. Private parks near Summersville itself tend to be smaller, quieter, and geared to shorter stays.
