Campgrounds and RV parks near Thruston, KY

Fishing and boating dominate the local scene. The Green River runs past Livermore RV Park, and Windy Hollow Campground RV Park has an on-site pay lake stocked with catfish, plus a swimming lake with a beach and a water slide. Diamond Lake Resort adds mini golf, go-karts, bumper boats, pedal boats, a swimming pool, and a stocked fishing lake for families with kids. Off-site, downtown Owensboro offers Smothers Park on the riverfront, the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and the Owensboro Museum of Science and History. Lincoln State Park across the river in Indiana has 10 miles of hiking trails, two scenic lakes, log cabins, and group cottages, and Holiday World and Splashin' Safari is about five miles from that park.

Western Kentucky has four distinct seasons with hot, humid summers and cool, wet winters. Peak RV season runs from late spring through early fall, when private campgrounds fill quickly on weekends and around local festivals in Owensboro. Season length varies by park. Windy Hollow Campground RV Park operates April 1 to October 31 in its main area, while Diamond Lake Resort is open year-round. Livermore RV Park offers riverside RV sites with water and electric along with primitive tent camping, and adjacent riverfront facilities on the Green River operate seasonally in the warmer months. At Lincoln State Park across the state line, water availability at individual sites is set seasonally, so shoulder-season campers should confirm hookup status before arrival. Spring can bring heavy rain and Ohio and Green River flooding that occasionally affects low-lying sites, and summer thunderstorms are common. Fall usually delivers the driest, most comfortable conditions of the year.

Expect flat to gently rolling terrain, mixed hardwood shade, and easy access from US 60, US 231, and the Audubon Parkway. Roads into rural parks are generally paved but can narrow near campground entrances, so drivers of longer rigs should scout turns. Hookups vary. Windy Hollow offers 20, 30, and 50 amp electric with water hookups, laundry, and a dump station, and max site length runs shorter than at many big-rig parks. Diamond Lake Resort provides full hookups including 50 amp on developed sites. Cell coverage is generally reliable across Daviess and McLean counties, though it thins along the Green River bottoms. Bring a Kentucky fishing license if planning to fish local rivers or lakes, cash or check for smaller parks that do not accept cards, and bug spray for summer stays near water. Quiet hours are enforced at most parks, and pets are typically welcome on leash.
