Campgrounds and RV parks near Tompkinsville, KY

Tompkinsville sits in Monroe County in south-central Kentucky, close to the Tennessee state line and within driving distance of two major reservoir systems: Dale Hollow Lake to the south and Barren River Lake to the west. RV travelers use the town as a base for lake camping, fishing, and boating trips. Dale Hollow Dam and Lake was completed in 1943, and although the dam was built for flood control and power generation, it has now become a recreational oasis for more than 3 million visitors each year. The closest option for many trips is Banks of the Cumberland Campground, with Sulphur Creek Resort on the Tennessee side of Dale Hollow. Farther out, Standing Stone State Park on the Cumberland Plateau and Dale Hollow Paradise provide additional sites, and Barren River Lake State Resort Park adds a full-service state park option to the west. Reservation systems vary by campground. Kentucky State Parks and Tennessee State Parks each run their own booking portals, while private resorts book direct. Note that the campground at Standing Stone State Park is closed for renovations, with the closure expected to last until late in the following year, so RV travelers should confirm status before routing through that park.

Kentucky state park campgrounds, including Barren River Lake State Resort Park, are booked through the Kentucky State Parks ReserveAmerica portal. Reservations must be made one day ahead of arrival and can be made up to 12 months in advance. Corps of Engineers sites on Dale Hollow, including primitive shoreline sites, are booked on Recreation.gov. Standing Stone State Park uses the Tennessee State Parks reservation system, where campsites can be booked up to 12 months ahead, though the campground itself is currently closed for renovation. Private resorts such as Sulphur Creek Resort, Banks of the Cumberland Campground, and Dale Hollow Paradise book directly through their own websites or by phone. For summer weekends and holidays, book several months out.
