Central Kentucky has four distinct seasons, and the shoulder months offer the most comfortable RV weather. Spring brings mild days, blooming dogwoods and occasional thunderstorms. Fall delivers crisp mornings and strong hardwood colour through October, which is a popular window for weekend bookings around Fort Knox and the state parks. Summer runs hot and humid. In Elizabethtown, the air can feel uncomfortably humid during the summer months from July to August, and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Sites with shade and full hookups, especially those offering 50-amp service for air conditioning, fill first. Fort Knox Water Park typically operates from Memorial Day through Labor Day, adding a family draw during peak season. Winter is the quiet season. Kentucky State Parks note that due to weather they cannot guarantee the availability of water or other resources at campgrounds during inclement weather months when freezing temperatures are possible. Private RV parks in the Elizabethtown area generally stay open, though some services scale back.

Most private parks in the Vine Grove and Elizabethtown corridor are compact, level and geared to travelling RVers and long-term residents rather than resort amenities. Expect gravel or paved pads, 30 and 50-amp service, water and sewer at most sites, plus Wi-Fi of varying quality. Bathhouses and laundry are common but not universal. Roads in are generally paved and RV-accessible, with easy connections from I-65 and US-31W. Cell coverage is reliable across the major carriers. Grocery, fuel and RV supply stops cluster in Elizabethtown and Radcliff, both within a short drive. County and public recreation areas nearby, such as Otter Creek, feel more rustic. Sites tend to be larger and shaded, but hookups may be limited and drinking water can be seasonal. Bring levelling blocks, a surge protector and a sewer hose long enough for back-in sites.
