Campgrounds and RV parks near Worthington Hills, KY

Louisville anchors most trip plans. Families can pair a campground stay with visits to Churchill Downs, the Louisville Slugger Museum, the Louisville Zoo, and the Muhammad Ali Center. Louisville North Campground sits about ten minutes from downtown with easy I-65 access, close to Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby Museum, the Louisville Science Center, and the Louisville Zoo. Across the river, southern Indiana adds outdoor options. Charlestown State Park has over 15 miles of trails ranging from easy to rugged, with wildflowers, fossil outcroppings, karst topography including large sinkholes, and more than 70 species of birds including bluebirds, black vultures, and the occasional bald eagle. Falls of the Ohio State Park in Clarksville is another short drive and centers on an exposed Devonian fossil bed with an interpretive center. Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest, roughly a 40-minute drive south, offers additional trails and art installations for a longer day out.

The Louisville area has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and cold winters. Rainfall is spread fairly evenly through the year, though heavy downpours and afternoon thunderstorms are common in warmer months, and the city also sees regular snowfall in winter, typically from December through March. Spring brings the wettest stretch, with May typically the peak precipitation month. Peak camping season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with weekends around Kentucky Derby week in early May, Thunder Over Louisville, and the Kentucky State Fair driving heavy demand at Louisville-area RV parks. Booking early for these windows is essential. Spring and autumn, particularly mid-April to mid-May and mid-September to mid-October, tend to offer the best conditions, with autumn drier and more stable and spring bringing longer days. Winter cuts into public-park availability. Charlestown State Park stays open year-round, but water service at electric-only loops is often shut down after the first hard freeze. Private RV parks in the area generally operate year-round for self-contained rigs.

Expect a mix of urban and state-park settings. Louisville North Campground operates as a compact RV park on a gravel lot in Clarksville, Indiana, just across the Ohio River from downtown Louisville, and accommodates larger rigs with full hookups, though maneuvering can require care due to tight spacing. An on-site gas station provides propane and fuel adjacent to some sites, and railroad tracks run behind the property with freight trains passing through the night. Light sleepers should plan accordingly. Charlestown State Park is the opposite experience: wooded, quiet, and spread out. The campground features full-hookup AA sites with water, sewer, and electricity, Class A sites with electricity only, and modern comfort stations. Only one vehicle is permitted at each campsite, and additional vehicles must use the overflow parking lot. Cell service is generally strong throughout the Louisville metro. Grocery stores, propane, and RV service are widely available on both sides of the river.
