Campgrounds and RV parks near Haynesville, LA

Lake Claiborne State Park sits on the shores of a 6,400-acre lake, with many campsites positioned directly on the water. The lake is stocked with bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie, and bream, drawing kayakers and anglers, and a sandy beach provides swimming access. Two disc golf courses wind through the wooded terrain, and marked hiking trails include the King of the Mountain Trail with its wooden bridge and small waterfall. The Whitetail course measures 7,391 feet and is the more difficult of the two, winding through the camping areas to a scenic hole 10 on the lake, while the Dogwood course is shorter at 5,281 feet and winds through the south side of the park. At Pleasure Point Marina RV Resort, boaters can access the same lake with lakefront sites. KEL'S KOVE adds a marina, boat launches, and a general store stocked with fishing supplies. Across the state line, Logoly's visitor center offers hands-on interactive exhibits and interpreter-led programs suitable for kids.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in the Haynesville area. March through May brings warming days and blooming dogwoods, with butterflies often spotted near the park entrance at Lake Claiborne. Spring is also a wet stretch, so pad-leveling and awning tie-downs matter, and thunderstorms can move through quickly. Summer is hot and humid. Visitors flock to Lake Claiborne's sandy beach in the summer months to get some relief from the heat, and weekend lakefront sites book up fastest during this stretch. School-holiday weekends fill first at both Lake Claiborne and Logoly. Fall cools off through October and November and typically offers the most comfortable camping weather, with lower humidity and fewer bugs. Winter is mild but damp, and while Lake Claiborne State Park is open year-round, some amenities scale back. Logoly State Park runs a peak season from March through November with a reduced off-peak schedule from December through February, when the visitor center is open weekdays and limited weekend hours.

Expect wooded, hilly terrain rather than flat pull-throughs. Lake Claiborne offers 87 campsites with water and electric hookups, picnic tables, and fire rings, and reviewers note that most sites are sloped and long rigs may need leveling blocks under jacks and wheels. A dump station and laundry facilities are on site, and bathhouses provide hot showers. Cell coverage can be inconsistent in the state park, particularly closer to the water, so plan for spotty signal in some loops. Wildlife is common, including deer, armadillos, and abundant songbirds in the pine forest. Poison ivy grows near some sites, so watch where kids and pets wander. Fuel and groceries are limited near the parks themselves, so stock up in Homer, Haynesville, or Minden before arrival.
