Campgrounds near Homer, Louisiana
Homer sits in Claiborne Parish in north Louisiana's piney hills, roughly ten miles northwest of Lake Claiborne State Park and within reach of the I-20 corridor to the south. The area's main draw for RV travelers is Lake Claiborne itself, a 6,400-acre reservoir surrounded by forested slopes and dotted with fishing piers, boat ramps, and a sandy swimming beach.
Options cluster in two areas. Lake Claiborne State Park anchors the public side with 87 water-and-electric sites, ten cabins, and primitive group camping. Private lakeside options nearby include Pleasure Point Marina RV Resort and KEL'S KOVE, both close to the state park. Valhalla Motorcycle Camp sits closer to Homer itself, and Bonnie & Clyde RV Park lies south near Arcadia, a short drive off I-20.
The mix suits families looking for lake recreation and travelers passing through on US 79 or I-20 who want a hookup stop with room to stretch out.
Things to do near Homer
Lake Claiborne State Park is the recreation hub. The 6,400-acre lake is stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, crappie, and bream, and a protected sandy swimming beach sits on an inlet away from boats and water skiers. Kayakers and anglers use the public ramp, and the park operates two 18-basket disc golf courses ranked among the best in the state, along with marked hiking trails including the short King of the Mountain trail with its footbridge and small waterfall.
Off the water, the historic town of Homer offers Greek Revival architecture centered on its antebellum courthouse square. South of the lake, the Bonnie and Clyde Ambush Museum in Gibsland draws history-minded travelers, and the monthly Bonnie & Clyde Trade Days market near Arcadia adds a shopping-and-music stop within a short drive.

Lake Claiborne State Park is open year-round, and private lake campgrounds around Homer generally operate through all four seasons as well. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV camping, with mild days, cooler nights, and lower humidity than summer. Dogwoods and wildflowers show through March and April.
Summer brings hot, humid weather with afternoon thunderstorms and heat indices that regularly climb past the triple digits. Lake use peaks from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and waterfront sites at the state park fill quickly on holiday weekends. Reservations for lakefront spots should be made well ahead during peak season.
Winters are short and cool rather than cold, with occasional freezes and the region's wettest months falling from late fall into early spring. The bathhouses at Lake Claiborne are climate-controlled, so cold-weather stays remain workable. Hurricanes rarely track this far inland, but remnants of Gulf systems can bring heavy rain in late summer and early fall.
How to book near Homer
Lake Claiborne State Park takes reservations through the Louisiana State Parks reservation system at reservations.gooutdoorslouisiana.com or by phone at 1-877-CAMP-N-LA (1-877-226-7652), with a booking window of two days to thirteen months ahead. A non-refundable transaction fee applies to every reservation. Early departures are treated as cancellations, and the standard cancellation charge is one night's rental.
Private parks handle bookings directly. Pleasure Point Marina RV Resort, KEL'S KOVE, Valhalla Motorcycle Camp, and Bonnie & Clyde RV Park take reservations by phone or through their own websites.
Holders of the America the Beautiful Senior and Access passes receive a fifty percent camping discount at Louisiana state parks when their home state also honors the pass, limited to one site per passport. Active-duty military, veterans, and first responders are also eligible for state-park discounts with valid ID at check-in.
What to expect on the ground
Lake Claiborne State Park's campground rolls across wooded slopes above the lake, so most sites need leveling blocks for larger rigs. Sites include water and electric hookups, picnic tables, and grills, with comfort stations, a dump station, and laundry on site. The park accommodates RVs up to 60 feet, and many lakefront sites feature private fishing piers extending over the water.
Expect pine shade, red-clay soil, and warm-season insects. Poison ivy grows near some site edges, so check the perimeter before setting up. Whitetail deer move through the campground at dawn and dusk, and owls are common after dark.
Cell coverage in the Homer area is generally reliable along US 79 and I-20 but can be spotty in the wooded state-park loops. Groceries, fuel, and basic supplies are available in Homer and Arcadia, with fuller shopping in Ruston or Minden.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Homer, LA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Homer, LA?
RV rental in Homer is one of the most affordable ways to explore North Louisiana, with most listings on RVezy ranging from roughly $90 to $250 per night depending on size and season. Compact travel trailers and pop-ups sit at the lower end, while Class C motorhomes and bunkhouse fifth wheels run higher. You'll save the most by booking mid-week stays at Lake Claiborne State Park, traveling in spring or fall when temperatures are mild, and filtering for hosts who offer unlimited mileage. Pro tip: bundle delivery to the campground into your booking and you'll skip fuel costs for the pickup leg, which adds up fast on a Homer RV trip.
lastateparks.com/parks-preserves/lake-claiborne-state-parkDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Homer, Louisiana?
Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Homer. Louisiana does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) for personal-use RVs, even larger Class A motorhomes and fifth wheels you'll find on RVezy. To be an approved driver you generally need to be at least 25 years old, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during checkout, so there's no paperwork to mail or notarize. Visiting from outside the US? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home country license. Once you're verified, you're cleared to pick up keys and start your Homer RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental insurance included when I book in Homer?
Every RV rental in Homer booked through RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built right into the reservation, so you're covered from the moment you drive off. The protection plan handles most damage to the vehicle during your trip, giving you real financial peace of mind without piecing together a separate policy. During checkout you'll choose your level of coverage (hosts don't pick this, you do), so you can dial protection up for a long Louisiana loop or keep it lean for a quick weekend at Lake Claiborne. It's the kind of safety net that makes first time renting an RV feel a lot less intimidating.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Homer RV rental?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy on every reservation (hosts don't), and the policy is applied at the platform level rather than displayed inside each listing. The refund amount depends on how far out you cancel relative to your pickup date. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds the booking or offers travel credit so your plans aren't left in the lurch, which matters in North Louisiana where spring storms can roll through Claiborne Parish. For severe weather situations, reach out to RVezy support and they'll walk you through your options. Pro tip: book early to grab the best Homer rigs and lock in your dates with confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV trip in Homer?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Homer is easy to find. On RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see motorhomes and travel trailers where dogs (and sometimes cats) are welcome. Lake Claiborne State Park allows leashed pets in the campground and on the trail system, including the Whispering Pines Bike Trail and the King of the Mountain Nature Trail, so your pup gets a real adventure too. Dogs are not allowed in the swim beach area, but the shaded waterfront sites are perfect for a cool-down after a hike. Message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee, and you're set for a tail-wagging Louisiana getaway.
lastateparks.com/parks-preserves/lake-claiborne-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Homer?
Yes, RV delivery in Homer is offered by many RVezy hosts and it's the easiest way to start your trip, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. Filter for Delivery on the search page and your host will tow the rig directly to Lake Claiborne State Park (about 10 miles southeast of Homer), Kel's Kove, or a private property, then level it, hook up water and electric, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. You skip the highway tow, the backing-in stress, and the setup learning curve. Delivery fees vary by distance, but for a Homer RV trip it often pays for itself in saved fuel and peace of mind.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Homer,%20LouisianaHow far can I drive on an RV rental from Homer?
You've got plenty of road to roam. Most motorhome rental Homer listings on RVezy include a daily mileage allowance (often 100 to 150 miles), and you can also find RV rental with unlimited mileage if you're planning a bigger loop. From Homer you're about 50 miles east to Ruston, 65 miles west to Shreveport-Bossier, 200 miles south to Alexandria, and 280 miles to Hot Springs, Arkansas for a classic weekend escape. If your route stretches longer, message the host before booking and they'll often quote a flat package for extra miles. Pro tip: stack a Shreveport casino stop with a Lake Claiborne base camp for the perfect mix.

Summer brings 90+ degree afternoons and pop-up thunderstorms, but the swim beach at Lake Claiborne and a well-running RV air conditioner make it doable, and you'll often find cheaper RV rental Homer rates mid-week in July. weather.gov/shv/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay renting in Homer?
You'll be fine, promise. Homer sits in the gently rolling foothills of North Louisiana on quiet two-lane highways like US-79 and LA-146, which is exactly the kind of low-stress terrain first-time renters dream about. Your RVezy host will do a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, hookups, the awning, and the propane system, so you're never tossed the keys and left guessing. If you'd rather skip driving entirely, choose a host who offers RV delivery Homer and the rig will be waiting at your campsite. Pro tip: pick a travel trailer in the 20 to 25 foot range or a Class C for the easiest handling on your first Louisiana RV adventure.
dotd.la.gov/What happens if something goes wrong with the RV on my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RV rental in Homer booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on LA-146, a dead battery at Kel's Kove, or a tow off the shoulder of US-79 is just a phone call away. Your host is also reachable by message for quick questions about the generator, slide-outs, or water pump, and RVezy support is standing by before, during, and after the trip. Save the roadside number in your phone before you pull out of the driveway. It's the safety net that makes saying yes to a Homer RV trip an easy call.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are popular road trip routes from Homer, LA?
An RV road trip from Homer opens up a great slice of the Ark-La-Tex. The classic loop runs 65 miles west to Shreveport for riverfront dining and casinos, then south on I-49 to Natchitoches (about 130 miles) for the oldest town in the Louisiana Purchase. History buffs love the 1.5-hour drive east to Poverty Point World Heritage Site near Epps. For mountain air, point the rig 280 miles north to Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas, or head 180 miles east to Vicksburg, Mississippi for Civil War history along the river. Cross-border travel between Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, and Mississippi is allowed on RVezy bookings, but trips into Mexico are not covered.
nps.gov/popo/index.htmWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for in North Louisiana?
Plan around realistic numbers and you'll cruise stress-free. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 10 miles per gallon, Class A's run 6 to 8, and a truck towing a travel trailer lands around 10 to 13. Louisiana gas prices tend to run a bit below the national average, and you'll find the cheapest fill-ups in Homer and Minden compared to highway exits. For a typical 3-night Lake Claiborne loop covering 200 miles of driving, budget roughly $80 to $120 in fuel for a mid-size Class C. Pro tip: top off in Homer or Haynesville before heading deeper into Claiborne Parish since rural stations can be 20 minutes apart.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campsite near Homer?
For Lake Claiborne State Park, aim to reserve through the Louisiana State Parks system (reserve.lastateparks.com or 1-877-CAMP-N-LA) about 2 to 3 months out for spring and fall weekends, and 4 to 6 months ahead for Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. Reservations open up to 13 months in advance, and the 20 premium pull-through sites get snapped up first. Weekdays and winter dates are usually wide open even a week out, which pairs perfectly with a last-minute cheap RV rental Homer booking on RVezy. Local insider tip: waterfront sites with private fishing piers are the hidden gems, request those when you reserve.
reserve.lastateparks.com/What are the driving conditions like around Homer?
Driving an RV around Homer is refreshingly easy compared to big-city traffic. You'll be on US-79, US-167, and LA-146 mostly, all two-lane and four-lane rural highways with light traffic and gentle hills (the Claiborne foothills are the highest terrain in North Louisiana, but nothing your rig can't handle). Watch for deer at dawn and dusk, especially along LA-146 heading to the state park, and slow down through small downtown Homer where the historic 1860 courthouse square has tight turns. Summer thunderstorms can pop up fast, so check the Shreveport NWS radar before long drives. Overall, it's some of the most relaxed RV driving in Louisiana.
weather.gov/shv/What amenities do campgrounds near Homer offer for RVs?
You'll find solid hookups at every major campground in the area. Lake Claiborne State Park offers 87 improved sites with water and 30/50-amp electric, plus a centralized dump station, comfort stations with hot showers, and laundry facilities on site. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Homer, with a 30 to 60 minute orientation walkthrough included. Delivery to Lake Claiborne State Park or your driveway is a popular upgrade. lastateparks.com/parks-preserves/lake-claiborne-state-parkHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is handled securely through the RVezy platform, so you never hand cash to a host. You'll pay for your booking with a credit or debit card through RVezy, and a refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment a few days before pickup (amount varies by host and rig). As long as the RV comes back in the same condition with no policy violations, the hold is released after your trip. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround with your Homer host at pickup, snap photos of any existing wear, confirm the fuel and propane levels, and return on time with tanks dumped if required. Easy, transparent, and protected.
