Campgrounds and RV parks near Plain Dealing, LA

Fishing drives much of the recreation calendar. Black Bayou Lake and the connected Cypress Lake produce bass, crappie, and catfish, and the Shreveport North / Caddo Lake Area KOA offers catch and release fishing on all four ponds across its properties, each stocked with bream, catfish, and bass under a strict catch-and-release policy. Caddo Lake, straddling the Louisiana-Texas line, is a bald-cypress paddling destination well known for kayak and canoe trails. Families use Cypress Black Bayou for its sand swim beach, nature trails, and small on-site wildlife sanctuary featuring local animals and free-roaming peacocks that wander the grounds. Shreveport and Bossier City, roughly a half-hour south, add casinos, restaurants, museums, and river-walk attractions. Birding, wildlife viewing, and photography are strong across the Soda Lake Wildlife Management Area and the bayou country west and south of town.

The climate of the Shreveport area is transitional between the humid subtropical type prevalent to the south and the continental climates to the north. During winter, masses of moderate to severely cold air move periodically through the area, while spring and fall seasons are usually mild, and summer months are consistently warm and humid. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV camping, with warm days and cooler nights. Wildflowers, migrating birds, and long fishing hours make March through May and late September through November the busiest booking windows at area parks. Summer is hot and humid. Daytime highs commonly climb into the mid-90s in July and August, thunderstorms are frequent, and mosquitoes are active around the bayous, so shaded, hookup-equipped sites with air conditioning are preferred. Alligators inhabit local waters, and campers should follow posted safety guidance around Black Bayou Lake. Winters are generally mild but variable. Hard freezes are possible, occasional light snow or sleet has been recorded, and cold fronts can push overnight lows below freezing. Most parks in the area operate year-round, though weekday availability is easy to find between December and February.

Sites in the area lean toward spacious, level pads with full or partial hookups. Cypress Black Bayou offers 73 RV sites, 28 with full hookups and 45 with partial hookups, and accommodates RVs up to 65 feet with full hookups including sewer connections, with a keypad-entry bathhouse and heated facilities. The Shreveport North / Caddo Lake Area KOA offers 32 camping sites across two campuses off Highway 1, with a swimming pool at the Grand Lodge, jumping pillows, paddle boats, dog parks, all-concrete RV sites, log and stone cabins, covered glamping wagons, and tepees. Cell coverage is generally reliable near the highway corridors and thinner in the bayou backcountry. Wi-Fi is offered at the KOA and at some private parks. Expect warm, humid nights in summer, active insect life near water, and quiet, dark-sky conditions once you leave the Shreveport suburbs.
