Campgrounds and RV parks near Sarepta, LA

Fishing drives most trips. Lake Bistineau is known for bass, crappie, and catfish, with cypress-lined inlets carved out by an old dam on Loggy Bayou. Black Bayou Lake at Cypress Black Bayou Recreation and Water Conservation District adds bass and catfish plus a sand swim beach, fishing piers, and a small on-site petting zoo. On land, Lake Bistineau State Park has hiking trails, a six-mile equestrian trail, and a waterfront disc golf course. Paddlers can rent flat-bottom boats, canoes, and kayaks at the park and reach Sandy Island, Snake Island, and other cypress-lined islands, water levels permitting. Day trips into Shreveport and Bossier City add museums, casinos, and family attractions within roughly an hour of camp.

Spring and fall are the practical windows for RV travel in this part of Louisiana. Daytime temperatures sit in the 70s and 80s Fahrenheit, humidity is manageable, and both lakes fish well. Spring is a wet stretch of the year, so expect thunderstorms and occasional flooding near shoreline sites; check road conditions before hauling in. Summer is hot and humid, with highs routinely in the mid-90s and heat indices higher. Sites with 50-amp service and shade are worth prioritizing. Mosquito pressure is heavy from late spring through early fall, and alligators are present in both Black Bayou and Bistineau, so keep pets leashed near the water. Winter is short and mild but wet. Lake Bistineau State Park is open year-round, and Cypress Black Bayou also operates through the winter, though some cabins and services may run reduced schedules. Freezing nights occur but rarely last long. Periodic drawdowns on Lake Bistineau can affect boat launches and rentals, so verify with the park before booking a fishing trip.

Expect wooded, lake-oriented campgrounds rather than resort-style parks. Cypress Black Bayou has spacious sites, many along the water, with electric and water hookups and clean shower facilities on site. The property sits on a 340-acre park with two lakes, a sand beach, and a small zoo. Lake Bistineau State Park sites are improved with water and electric service, and many pads sit within view of the lake. Cell coverage on major carriers is usable but variable, and public Wi-Fi is limited. Plan for humidity, biting insects, and the occasional afternoon thunderstorm. Bring a surge protector, leveling blocks for uneven pine-shaded pads, and a plan for keeping food secured; raccoons are active after dark.
