Campgrounds and RV parks near Bradley, ME

The Maine Forest and Logging Museum at Leonard's Mills is the local anchor attraction. The site sits along Blackman Stream in Bradley and reconstructs a 1790s milling community, including the only operating water-powered up-and-down sawmill in Maine, a blacksmith shop, covered bridge, settler's log cabin, and a restored Lombard steam log hauler. Grounds are open daily for self-guided visits, with staffed living-history events on select weekends through the warm months. On-site trails follow Blackman Stream into the surrounding forest, offering short interpretive walks and longer loops through older woods. The Penobscot River, running along the town's western edge, is used for fishing, kayaking, and canoeing, though currents can be swift. Bangor, Orono, and Acadia National Park are all within a short drive for museums, dining, and coastal hikes.

The practical RV season around Bradley runs from mid-May through early October. Spring brings mud season and blackflies in May, followed by leaf-out and milder days by late May and early June. Most private campgrounds open by Memorial Day weekend and stay busy through Labor Day. Summer is the peak booking window. July and August have warm afternoons, cool nights, and steady weekend demand at lakefront properties like Pushaw Lake Campground and Parks Pond Campground, as well as at Bangor / Holden KOA Holiday. Reserve well ahead for July 4 and any Bangor waterfront concert weekends. Fall foliage typically peaks in this part of interior Maine from late September into the first week of October, with cooler nights and thinner crowds. Maine State Park campgrounds shift to first-come, first-served in mid-September, and most private parks in the Bradley area close by mid-October. Winter camping is limited: snow cover typically runs from November through April, and most facilities are shut.

Bradley itself is residential and quiet, with limited services in town. Groceries, fuel, propane, RV supplies, and dump stations are easiest to find in Old Town, Orono, Brewer, and Bangor, all within about fifteen minutes by road. Cell coverage is generally reliable near the river corridor and thins out on back roads north and east. Campground amenities vary widely. Bangor / Holden KOA Holiday and Holden Family Campground lean toward full hookups, cabins, and family programming. Cold River, Pushaw Lake, and Parks Pond campgrounds tend toward wooded sites with water and electric, lake access, and boat rentals or launches. Blackflies and mosquitoes peak from late May into early July, ticks are present in tall grass and brush, and black bears live in the surrounding forest, so store food and trash securely.
