Campgrounds near East Sandwich, Massachusetts
East Sandwich sits on the north shore of Cape Cod in the town of Sandwich, a short drive from the Sagamore Bridge and the east end of the Cape Cod Canal. Scusset Beach State Reservation is a public recreation area at the east end of the Cape Cod Canal in Sandwich, with beachfront on Cape Cod Bay, a campground, and a long stone jetty that separates the canal from the beach. The area works well as an RV base for exploring the Upper and Mid Cape without committing to peak-season traffic further out on Route 6.
Camping options range from full-service private resorts to state-managed parks. Peters Pond RV Resort operates in Sandwich on Peter's Pond, a 127-acre spring-fed kettle pond, with wooded RV sites, full hookups, and cottage rentals. Dunroamin Cottages and Trailer Park sits on the same pond area with wooded RV sites and cottage rentals. Area 2 - Shawme Crowell State Forest has over 285 campsites among rolling, wooded hills, with more than 15 miles of roads and trails providing hiking and equestrian access to over 700 acres of pitch pine and scrub oak.
Closer to the canal, Scusset Beach State Reservation and Bay View Campgrounds in Bourne round out the choices for RV renters looking for either direct beach access or full-resort amenities.
Things to do near East Sandwich
The Cape Cod Canal defines much of the recreation on this end of the Cape. Paved multi-use paths run along both banks of the canal, popular for cycling, walking, and shore fishing. The stone jetty at Scusset Beach is a walking route out over the water, and a short hike up Sagamore Hill gives a view over Cape Cod Bay.
Historic Sandwich Village, the oldest town on the Cape, has walkable streets, the Sandwich Glass Museum, and Heritage Museums and Gardens with roughly one hundred acres of grounds, vintage automobiles, and family exhibits. Freshwater kettle ponds throughout the area, including Peter's Pond, offer swimming, kayaking, and fishing.
Day trips reach Provincetown at the tip of the Cape in about an hour, and the ferries to Martha's Vineyard leave from Woods Hole in Falmouth to the south.

The Cape Cod camping season is compressed. Peters Pond RV Resort, Dunroamin Cottages and Trailer Park, and Bay View Campgrounds generally run a spring-to-fall season, with full services typically available from around May through mid-October. Scusset Beach State Reservation opens for its main season in spring and stays open through the fall, with a limited off-season option.
Summer is peak, and it books up fast. Weekends between the Fourth of July and Labor Day fill months in advance at both state and private campgrounds. Traffic across the Sagamore and Bourne bridges is heaviest on Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings. Late May, June, and September are quieter, with mild weather and open swimming ponds.
Scusset Beach also offers weekend camping during the off-season, but off-season camping is limited to self-contained units only, as there are no restrooms, water hookups, showers, or dump station available. Area 2 - Shawme Crowell State Forest has a similar off-season pattern from October through April, with Thursday-through-Saturday stays only outside the main season.

How to book a campsite
State-managed campgrounds in Massachusetts use the ReserveAmerica platform under the Department of Conservation and Recreation. Reservations can be made up to 4 months prior to the arrival date for both Area 2 - Shawme Crowell State Forest and Scusset Beach State Reservation. Reservations are required and walk-in registrations are not permitted, so plan ahead rather than driving in on the day. Advance reservations can be made same day up until 2 pm on the date of arrival.
For popular summer weekends, log in at the release time on the day the booking window opens for the target arrival date. Cancellations do free up sites, so keep checking if the initial search comes up empty.
Private campgrounds like Peters Pond RV Resort, Dunroamin Cottages and Trailer Park, and Bay View Campgrounds book directly through their own websites. Summer holidays at private resorts on Cape Cod sell out early, often many months in advance.
What to expect
State campgrounds here are wooded and rustic. Area 2 - Shawme Crowell State Forest has heated bathroom facilities, flush toilets and showers, a dumping station, but no hookups at sites, so plan for dry camping in an RV. Scusset Beach State Reservation offers 98 RV sites with water and 20/30/50-amp electric service, five tent-only campsites, and a safari field for RV clubs, plus a dump station for registered campers.
Private resorts are more amenity-heavy. Peters Pond and Bay View Campgrounds typically include swimming areas, playgrounds, planned activities, and full-hookup sites suited to larger rigs. Expect a family atmosphere with many seasonal campers on site.
Alcoholic beverages are prohibited in all Massachusetts state parks and campgrounds, and Massachusetts prohibits the transportation of firewood or any wood products into or out of any DCR campground. Buy firewood on site or from local vendors near the park. Ticks and poison ivy are present in wooded areas; check pets and kids after hikes.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near East Sandwich, MA
How much does an RV rental in East Sandwich cost?
RV rental in East Sandwich is affordable when you book through RVezy. Travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes run $175 to $275, and larger Class A coaches range $250 to $400 in peak summer. Shoulder season trips in May or late September can save 25 to 40 percent compared to July and August rates on Cape Cod. For a cheap RV rental in East Sandwich, filter by travel trailers and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. Booking midweek and skipping the July 4 week also lowers your total. Many Sandwich hosts bundle in camp chairs, linens, and kitchen kits at no extra charge, so you arrive ready to enjoy the Cape Cod Canal sunset.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=East%20Sandwich%2C%20MassachusettsWhat license do I need to rent an RV in East Sandwich, Massachusetts?
Your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in East Sandwich. Massachusetts does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for personal RVs, including Class A motorhomes and fifth wheels available on RVezy. To rent on RVezy, you generally need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking, so there is no paperwork to print or notarize. Visiting from outside the US? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home license. Most first-time renters on Cape Cod find the verification step wraps up quickly, often within the same day.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat's included for protection and peace of mind on my Cape Cod RV rental?
Every RV rental in East Sandwich booked through RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance included. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV, giving you financial peace of mind without shopping for separate insurance. During checkout, you choose the protection level that fits your trip: multiple tiers let you pick more coverage for a longer Cape Cod RV trip or a leaner option for a quick weekend at Scusset Beach. Roadside assistance is included with every plan, so if you get a flat on Route 6A or need help near the Sagamore Bridge, support is one call away. That removes a lot of worry before you even pack the cooler.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my East Sandwich RV rental?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy platform-wide, not individual hosts. There is a grace-period window after booking where you can cancel for a full refund, and refund amounts after that depend on how far out from your trip you cancel, so the earlier you let RVezy know, the more flexibility you have. If a host cancels on you, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit so your plans stay on track. You do not need to negotiate terms; just contact RVezy support and they will walk you through the steps. That safety net makes it easy to lock in your summer Cape Cod dates rather than waiting and watching prices climb.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in East Sandwich?
Yes, a pet-friendly RV rental in East Sandwich is just a filter click away on RVezy. Use the Pet-Friendly filter and you will see motorhomes and travel trailers from hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats too). Once you arrive, your pup will love Sandy Neck Beach in Barnstable, which allows leashed dogs on the beach outside summer lifeguard hours, and the dog-friendly trails at Shawme-Crowell State Forest just a few miles away. Scusset Beach State Reservation also allows leashed pets in the campground but requires proof of a current rabies vaccination at check-in, so bring the paperwork. Many East Sandwich hosts can provide a portable pet gate or outdoor tie-out on request: just message before booking.
mass.gov/locations/scusset-beach-state-reservationCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in East Sandwich?
Yes, RV delivery in East Sandwich is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters. Many local hosts will drive the RV directly to Shawme-Crowell State Forest, Scusset Beach State Reservation, or Peters Pond RV Resort, level it, hook up water and power where available, and walk you through every system before they leave. That means no towing, no backing into a tight site, and no figuring out the awning on your own. Delivery fees are set by each host and often scale with distance, and some hosts offer free delivery within a set radius of Sandwich. Filter listings by Delivery to see your options, then message the host with your campsite number to lock in setup.
mass.gov/locations/shawme-crowell-state-forestHow far can I drive on an RV road trip from East Sandwich?
Plenty of legendary destinations are within easy reach on an RV road trip from East Sandwich. Provincetown sits at the tip of the Cape about 50 miles up Route 6 (roughly 1 hour 15 minutes), Plymouth and its historic waterfront is about 25 miles north, Newport, Rhode Island is roughly 75 miles southwest, and Boston is about 65 miles via Route 3. Want a bigger loop? The White Mountains of New Hampshire are around 200 miles north, and Acadia National Park in Maine is a doable 350 miles. Mileage policies are set by each host: some include 100 to 150 miles per night free, and a few offer RV rental with unlimited mileage. Filter by mileage and ask hosts directly to match your route.
mass.gov/orgs/highway-divisionWhere are the best campgrounds near East Sandwich for an RV?
You have great options for RV camping in East Sandwich. Scusset Beach State Reservation in Sagamore offers around 100 RV sites with water and electric hookups, plus beachfront on Cape Cod Bay. Shawme-Crowell State Forest in Sandwich has about 260 wooded sites with a dump station (no hookups) across 700 acres of pitch pine. Peters Pond RV Resort on Cotuit Road offers full-hookup sites on a spring-fed pond with a private beach. DunRoamin' Trailer Park in Sandwich is a smaller, low-key full-hookup option, and Bourne Scenic Park sits right on the Cape Cod Canal with electric sites. Book Massachusetts DCR state campgrounds at ReserveAmerica up to six months ahead.
mass.gov/locations/scusset-beach-state-reservationWhen is the best time to take an RV trip from East Sandwich?
Late May through mid-October is prime time for an East Sandwich RV trip, and the sweet spot is June and September. June brings warm 70 to 80 degree F days, fewer crowds, and lower nightly rates before the July rush. September is arguably the best month on the Cape: ocean water is at its warmest (around 68 to 70 degrees F), traffic over the Sagamore and Bourne bridges thins after Labor Day, and campgrounds open up. July and August are gorgeous but busiest, so book three to four months ahead. October still offers crisp days in the 60s and stunning cranberry-bog foliage inland. Most Cape campgrounds run April through late October, with Shawme-Crowell open into November for shoulder-season RVers.
weather.gov/box/I'm a first-time RV renter. Will I be okay driving on Cape Cod?
You will be fine: Cape Cod is one of the friendlier places in New England to learn an RV. Every RVezy host gives you an in-person walkthrough at pickup covering the generator, water tanks, slide-outs, awning, and dump procedure, and you can message them anytime during your trip with questions. Local driving is mostly flat with two main arteries (Route 6 and scenic Route 6A) and good signage. The two bridges crossing the Cape Cod Canal, Sagamore and Bourne, have generous clearances so height is not a concern for standard RVs. If you would rather skip the drive entirely, choose a host who offers delivery and setup right to your campsite. First time renting an RV becomes much less intimidating when the keys come with a coach.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002180334-RentingWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so if you get a flat tire on Route 6A, a dead battery at Scusset Beach, or a lockout at the Sandwich Boardwalk parking lot, one phone call gets help dispatched. Your host is also your first line of support for quirks specific to their RV: most respond within minutes via in-app messaging. For anything bigger, RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Save the roadside number in your phone before you pull out of the host's driveway. Mechanical issues are rare on well-maintained personal RVs, but knowing help is built in lets you focus on lobster rolls instead of logistics.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my East Sandwich RV rental into Canada or other states?
Yes, US road trips are very doable from East Sandwich: popular routes head to Acadia National Park in Maine, the White Mountains of New Hampshire, the Adirondacks in New York, and down the coast to Mystic, Connecticut and Newport, Rhode Island. Cross-border travel into Canada depends on the host and the RV's insurance terms, so message the host directly before booking if you are planning to head to Nova Scotia or Quebec. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Most East Sandwich hosts are comfortable with multi-state Northeast loops; just confirm your route in the booking message so mileage and travel range expectations are clear.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for on a Cape Cod RV trip?
Budgeting fuel is straightforward once you know the type of RV you are driving. Campervans (Class B) average 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 mpg, Class A coaches run 6 to 10 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 mpg combined). Massachusetts gas prices typically sit slightly above the US average, and diesel runs a bit higher than regular. The good news for a Cape Cod RV trip: distances are short. East Sandwich to Provincetown and back is only about 100 miles, so even in a thirsty Class A you are looking at a modest fuel bill. Fill up off-Cape in Plymouth or Wareham where prices tend to run a few cents cheaper.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near East Sandwich?
For summer weekends, book your Cape Cod campsite the moment your RV rental in Sandwich is confirmed, ideally three to six months out. Massachusetts DCR campgrounds (Scusset Beach and Shawme-Crowell) open reservations up to six months ahead through ReserveAmerica, and prime July and August weekend sites at Scusset Beach typically sell out within hours of going live. Private campgrounds like Peters Pond RV Resort and Bourne Scenic Park often book even earlier for holiday weekends. Midweek stays are far easier and you can sometimes find sites a week or two out. Set a calendar alarm for the morning your booking window opens, and have your campsite preferences picked out so you can grab one fast.
massdcrcamping.reserveamerica.com/What are local driving conditions like around East Sandwich?
East Sandwich is one of the easier RV-driving areas in the Northeast. Roads are mostly flat, well-paved, and well-marked. Route 6 (the Mid-Cape Highway) is the main artery and handles RVs of any size easily, while scenic Route 6A through Sandwich, Barnstable, and Yarmouth is narrower with low-hanging tree branches in spots: fine for Class C and smaller, but slow down if you are in a tall Class A. Summer weekend traffic over the Sagamore and Bourne bridges can back up for an hour or more on Friday afternoons and Sunday returns, so aim for early morning or late evening crossings. Watch for cyclists along the Cape Cod Canal service road and the Shining Sea Bikeway. Winter brings occasional coastal storms, but plows keep main routes clear.
mass511.com/What amenities should I expect at campgrounds near East Sandwich?
Cape Cod campgrounds range from fully loaded to back-to-nature, so you can match the vibe to your trip. Peters Pond RV Resort and DunRoamin' Trailer Park offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer) plus Wi-Fi, laundry, and on-site stores. Scusset Beach State Reservation has water and electric at its RV sites but no sewer: there is a dump station on-site for registered campers. Shawme-Crowell State Forest has no hookups but offers flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station across its wooded sites. Every state campground has potable spigots for filling fresh water. Propane refills are easy to find at hardware stores and home centers in nearby Sandwich and Hyannis, both within 15 minutes of East Sandwich.
mass.gov/locations/scusset-beach-state-reservationWhat features come standard in East Sandwich RV rentals?
Most RVezy rentals in East Sandwich come well-equipped for Cape Cod living. Expect comfortable sleeping for 2 to 8 depending on size, a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and cookware, an indoor bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control (roof AC and furnace), and seatbelted seating for travel. Many motorhome rentals in East Sandwich also include a generator, outdoor awning, TV, and a Bluetooth sound system; some hosts add Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor griddles, or bikes. Use the listing's amenities checklist to confirm details like solar, slide-outs, or pet bowls. If something specific matters, like a king bed or a kid-friendly bunk setup, message the host before booking. They are usually happy to confirm and may even toss in beach chairs, a cooler, or boogie boards.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=East%20Sandwich%2C%20MassachusettsWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for my Sandwich RV rental?
Hosts in East Sandwich offer a great mix of add-ons that make your trip easier. Common options include linen and towel packages, kitchen kits, outdoor sets (chairs, table, grill), Wi-Fi hotspots, extra generator hours, and dump-and-fill service so you do not have to handle tanks at the end of your trip. Mileage policies are host-set and often include 100 to 150 free miles per night with an overage rate, which is perfect for short Cape loops. Pickup is typically at the host's home in or near Sandwich, but delivery to Scusset Beach, Shawme-Crowell, or Peters Pond is widely offered. Confirm pickup and drop-off times in the listing, and ask about late return windows if your ferry back from Provincetown runs long.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=East%20Sandwich%2C%20MassachusettsHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is handled entirely through RVezy's secure platform, so you never hand cash or a check to a host. You pay your trip total (rental, protection, fees, and any add-ons) at booking using a credit or debit card. A separate security deposit hold is placed on your card before pickup, with the amount set by the host based on the RV's value. It is a hold, not a charge, and it is released after your trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape with tanks emptied and fuel topped off. To avoid any deposit issues, take photos and a short video of the interior and exterior at both pickup and drop-off. Most renters get their full hold released within a few days of returning the RV.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent a campervan in East Sandwich for a quick getaway?
Yes, campervan rental in East Sandwich is a fantastic option for couples or small families who want easy parking and lower fuel costs. Class B campervans (often Sprinter-based builds) typically sleep 2 to 4, average 18 to 22 mpg, and fit in any standard parking spot, meaning you can grab lunch in downtown Sandwich, park at Sandy Neck Beach, or head up to Provincetown's narrow streets without stress. They are ideal for a long weekend exploring the Cape Cod Canal bike path, the Sandwich Glass Museum, and Heritage Museums and Gardens (a hidden gem with 100 acres of gardens). Filter RVezy by Class B and Instant Book to find one ready to go. Campervans book up fastest for summer weekends, so grab yours early.
