Beverly Hills camping overview
Beverly Hills sits in southern Oakland County, within roughly a 30 to 45 minute drive of a cluster of Michigan state recreation areas that anchor camping options in Metro Detroit. The closest public campgrounds are managed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Pontiac Lake Recreation Area covers 3,745 acres and includes the headwaters of the Clinton, Huron and Shiawassee rivers. Proud Lake Recreation Area, approximately 3,000 acres, sits on the Huron River in Commerce Township, about 40 minutes from downtown Detroit.
For RV travelers, options range from rustic state park loops to full-hookup private parks. Highland Recreation Area is a 5,900-acre park in north Oakland County, offering rustic and equestrian camping. Private options add hookups and family amenities: Sun Outdoors Kensington Valley features grass sites, tree cover, and 30 or 50 amp service, and Clearwater Campground in Ortonville rounds out the list with full-hookup sites.
Most of these destinations sit less than an hour from Beverly Hills, making them workable for both weekend trips and longer family stays.
Things to do near Beverly Hills
The state recreation areas near Beverly Hills are built around lakes, trails, and beaches. Pontiac Lake Recreation Area features an 11-mile mountain bike trail that has been ranked among the Top 100 Trails in the United States and is considered one of the most technical trails in southeast Michigan. The day-use area also boasts the longest beach in southeast Michigan, at just over half a mile. Highland Recreation Area adds an extensive trail system open to equestrians, mountain bikers and hikers.
Proud Lake Recreation Area is a strong pick for paddling and fishing families. The park's section of the Huron River is managed as a Type I trout stream, and canoes and kayaks are available to rent in both the day-use area and the modern campground for campers, Memorial Day through Labor Day. At Sun Outdoors Kensington Valley and Clearwater Campground, families get on-site amenities and organized activities without leaving the property.

The camping season around Beverly Hills runs mainly from mid-spring through mid-fall, with peak demand from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Private resorts follow this pattern closely, while Michigan state park campgrounds tend to stay open longer. Proud Lake Recreation Area's modern campground is open year-round, with reservations available through MiDNRReservations.com.
One significant near-term closure affects trip planning. Pontiac Lake Recreation Area's modern campground, including the A-frame, is closed for the 2026 season to allow for planned updates to the sanitation station, and it is anticipated that the campground will reopen September 1, 2026. The day-use area, shelters, equestrian campground and group camp remain open, though the sanitation station is not available to campers during the closure.
Winter brings snow and cold. State parks stay accessible for day use, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, and Pontiac Lake is open to snowmobiling when there is appropriate snow depth, though there are no designated trails. Modern amenities at most campgrounds are limited outside the main season.

This was our very first time renting an RV, and I honestly couldn't have asked for a better experience. From the moment we booked, our host, Binbin, was incredibly kind, patient, and welcoming. Anytime I had a question—no matter how small—I could call or message him, and he was always quick to answer. He took the time to explain everything thoroughly and never made me feel like I was asking too many questions. By the time we left, I felt like an RV pro thanks to him! The RV itself was absolutely beautiful, spotless, and exceptionally well maintained. It was comfortable, spacious, and had everything my family needed for an amazing trip. You can tell Binbin truly takes pride in taking care of his RV and making sure his guests have a wonderful experience. This trip created memories we'll never forget, and a big part of that was because of how wonderful Binbin was as a host. I genuinely can't say enough good things about him. If you're considering renting an RV, I highly recommend this one. We will definitely be renting from Binbin again for our future trips. Thank you, Binbin, for making our first RV adventure so enjoyable, stress-free, and memorable!

How to book a site
Michigan state park sites are booked through a single central system. Reservations for campsites, overnight lodging, harbors and picnic shelters can be made at MiDNRReservations.com or by calling 1-800-44-PARKS (1-800-447-2757). Campsites, overnight lodging and harbor slips can be reserved up to six months in advance on a rolling window, with popular summer weekends at Proud Lake, Pontiac Lake, and Highland filling within minutes of the window opening. Picnic shelters can be booked up to 12 months out.
A park pass is required on top of the reservation. The Michigan Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into all state parks and recreation areas, state boat launches, state forest campgrounds and state trail parking lots.
Private campgrounds book directly. Sun Outdoors Kensington Valley reserves through its own website, and Clearwater Campground handles bookings through the operator.
What to expect on site
State recreation area campgrounds in this region are typically wooded, with electric service but limited water and sewer at the site. At Proud Lake, the modern campground sits on the shores of Proud Lake and features 130 sites arranged on two loops. Some sites offer lake views while others are nestled against the woods. Sites are back-in with grass or cement pads and include 30 or 50 amp electrical service, fire rings, and picnic tables, plus access to a sanitation station with potable water. Pontiac Lake and Highland lean more rustic in comparison.
Check-in and quiet hours are standardized across Michigan state parks: campsite check-in starts at 3 p.m. and checkout is 1 p.m., with quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. Private resorts like Sun Outdoors Kensington Valley skew toward full hookups and family programming, while state sites lean toward quieter, natural stays.

michigan.org/road-tripsWhere can I camp near Beverly Hills, MI in my RV?

Holly Recreation Area (about 35 minutes north) has wooded sites and great hiking. Bald Mountain Recreation Area near Lake Orion is another favorite for quiet weekends. midnrreservations.com/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Beverly Hills?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for RV camping near Beverly Hills, with peak conditions in June, July, and August (typical highs around 78 to 84 degrees Fahrenheit, warm lake water, and long daylight hours). September and early October are an insider favorite: cooler nights in the 40s and 50s, fewer crowds, and Michigan's legendary fall colors lighting up the Huron-Clinton Metroparks. Spring (April to mid-May) is quieter but bring layers, nights can dip near freezing. Adventurous renters can also book winter rigs with furnaces and heated tanks for ice fishing or holiday trips, just filter for winter-ready RVs.
weather.gov/dtx/I have never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You will do great, and you are not on your own. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup that covers driving tips, hookups, slide-outs, generator use, and tank dumping. If you are nervous about navigating busy roads like Woodward Avenue or I-696, choose a smaller Class C or campervan for your first time renting an RV, or book a host who delivers the RV directly to your campsite. You can also message your host before booking with any questions. The wide, flat county roads west of Beverly Hills (around Wixom and Milford) are perfect for getting comfortable behind the wheel before heading out on a longer trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002461273-For-rentersWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are covered around the clock. Every booking on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one call away whether you are at a campground in Holly or pulled over on US-23. The service handles flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, towing, and mechanical issues. Your host is also typically available by phone or in-app message for quick questions like how to reset a fuse or restart the water heater. Snap a photo of the RV's VIN and any roadside numbers your host shares during the walkthrough, it makes any call faster if you need help on the road.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Beverly Hills RV rental across the border into Canada?
Many Michigan hosts do allow cross-border travel into Ontario, which makes a Beverly Hills RV trip a great launchpad for places like Point Pelee National Park, Niagara Falls, or Toronto (the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron is only about 70 miles east). Because cross-border travel affects insurance and paperwork, you must ask the host and get written approval through RVezy messaging before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. Bring a passport or enhanced driver's license for everyone in your party, and declare any food or alcohol at the border to keep your crossing quick.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Michigan RV trip?
Fuel is easier to budget than you might expect. Most Class C motorhomes around Beverly Hills get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (mpg), travel trailers towed by a pickup average 10 to 14 mpg, and Class B campervans can hit 18 to 22 mpg. Michigan gasoline prices generally run a bit above the national average, so plan around current pump prices when budgeting. For a weekend round trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes (about 480 miles), expect roughly $130 to $200 in fuel for a Class C at typical prices. The Costco in Madison Heights and Sam's Club in Auburn Hills tend to have some of the cheapest fuel in the metro area, fill up before you hit the highway.
gasprices.aaa.com/state-gas-price-averages/How far in advance should I book a campground near Beverly Hills?
For Michigan state parks like Proud Lake, Holly, or Bald Mountain Recreation Area, book as early as possible: the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reservation window opens six months ahead, and summer weekends often sell out the day they become available. For private parks like Camp Dearborn or Wolverine Campground, aim for 2 to 3 months ahead for July and August. Last-minute trips are still doable midweek or in the shoulder seasons. You will also need a Michigan Recreation Passport for state park entry (an annual fee for Michigan residents and a daily fee for non-residents), which you can add at checkout on the DNR site.
michigan.gov/dnr/buy-and-apply/recreation-passportWhat are driving conditions like around Beverly Hills?
Driving an RV around Beverly Hills is very manageable thanks to wide suburban roads and clearly marked highways like M-10 (Lodge Freeway) and I-696. Avoid taking taller RVs on the lower service drives in downtown Detroit, and watch posted clearances on older Woodward Avenue underpasses. Rush hour on I-75 and I-696 (roughly 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.) is best avoided. In winter, expect snow and salted roads. Head north on US-24 or west on I-96 to escape city traffic quickly, you will be in farm country and at lakeside campgrounds within 45 minutes.
mdotjboss.state.mi.us/MiDrive/mapWhat hookups and amenities do campgrounds near Beverly Hills offer?
You will find a great mix of options. Michigan State Park campgrounds like Proud Lake and Holly Recreation Area offer modern sites with 30 or 50 amp electric and potable water fill stations, plus a central dump station included with your nightly fee. Private parks such as Camp Dearborn and Wolverine Campground in White Lake provide full hookups (water, electric, and sewer at the site) along with Wi-Fi, laundry, and pools. Most state park dump stations are free for registered campers, and you can fill fresh water at the entrance before heading to your site. Bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a 30-to-50 amp adapter, they cover almost every site you will encounter in Michigan.
michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/campingWhat is included inside a typical RV rental from Beverly Hills?
Most RVs on RVezy come trip-ready. Expect a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, comfortable sleeping for 2 to 8 depending on the rig, air conditioning, furnace, and dinette seating with seatbelts. Many Class C motorhome rentals around Beverly Hills also include a generator, outdoor speakers, a TV, and even Wi-Fi hotspots. Hosts often provide starter kits with linens, kitchenware, and basic toiletries, but check the listing's amenity section to confirm. If something is missing, message the host before booking, most are happy to add items like a Blackstone griddle or kids' bedding for a small fee.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Beverly%20Hills%2C%20MichiganWhat add-ons and mileage options can I expect when I rent an RV in Beverly Hills?
Hosts in the Beverly Hills area offer plenty of useful extras. Common add-ons include generators (often charged per hour of use), bike racks, portable grills, camp chairs, and kids' bedding packs. Pickup is usually at the host's home or a nearby meeting point, with delivery available for an additional fee based on distance. Mileage policies vary by listing: many include 100 to 150 miles per night free, with additional miles around $0.30 to $0.50 each, and some hosts even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for road-trip travelers. If you are planning a long motorhome rental from Beverly Hills up north, ask about a custom mileage bundle when you message the host.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Beverly%20Hills%2C%20MichiganHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy by credit card at booking, and the platform holds your funds until after your trip starts, which protects both you and the host. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup, not actually charged, and is released after the trip once the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid disputes, do a careful walkthrough video at pickup and dropoff with your host. Keep receipts for any propane refills or dump fees, hosts in Michigan often reimburse these without issue.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent a winter-ready RV from Beverly Hills?
Yes, winter RV rental in Beverly Hills is absolutely possible and can be a memorable Michigan adventure. Look for listings labeled four-season or winter-ready, these have heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and reliable furnaces. Popular winter trips include ice fishing on Houghton Lake (about 2.5 hours north), snowshoeing at Pontiac Lake Recreation Area (about 25 minutes away), and holiday light tours in Frankenmuth (about 90 minutes). Choose a site with electric hookups so you can run a small space heater and conserve propane. Ask your host to demonstrate the winterization bypass and tank-heater switches during your walkthrough, it makes cold-weather RV camping near Beverly Hills genuinely comfortable.
