Camping near Grant, Michigan
Grant sits in Newaygo County in west Michigan, roughly an hour north of Grand Rapids and inland from the Lake Michigan shoreline. The town is best known as a river-country base, with the Muskegon River running past its northern edge and the Manistee National Forest a short drive north. RV travelers use Grant as a low-traffic staging point for float trips, fishing, and forest drives without paying coastal-resort rates.
Private campgrounds cluster along the Muskegon River corridor. Salmon Run Campground Canoes and Chinook Camping both sit on the river and pair sites with on-site paddle rentals. Little Switzerland Resort and Campground occupies Pickerel Lake frontage two miles north of Newaygo, and Crockery Creek RV Park serves the Ravenna side toward Muskegon with full-hookup, concrete-pad sites. Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - West Michigan operates a larger family resort with pools and organized activities.
Most properties in the area are seasonal, typically open from May through October, with a smaller number of full-hookup sites available for larger rigs.
Things to do around Grant
The Muskegon River is the main draw. Tubing, kayaking, canoeing, and rafting are all available directly from riverfront campgrounds, and outfitters run shuttle floats so paddlers finish back at their site. Salmon Run Campground Canoes rents tubes, kayaks, canoes, and rafts on site, with one-hour and three-hour float options.
The river also holds strong runs of salmon and steelhead in fall and spring, plus resident smallmouth bass and trout, and guided drift-boat trips are easy to arrange locally. Inland, the Manistee National Forest offers hiking, ORV routes, and quiet two-tracks north of town.
Families traveling with kids often add a day at Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - West Michigan for pool time, or drive to the Lake Michigan beaches near Muskegon and Grand Haven, about 40 minutes west.

The camping season in this part of Michigan is short and concentrated. Most private campgrounds open in early May and close at the end of October, and many sites shift to weekends-only outside peak summer. July and August are the busiest months, driven by river floats, family reunions, and the Newaygo County Fair.
Late spring is a strong shoulder window. Water levels on the Muskegon are typically higher, black flies and mosquitoes are lighter than in July, and reservations are easier to secure. September brings cooling nights, thinning crowds, and the start of fall salmon runs, which pull anglers to riverfront sites through October.
Winter effectively shuts the private-campground network down. Deep snow, sub-freezing temperatures, and unplowed access roads make RV travel impractical from December through early April, though nearby state and federal land remains open for dispersed cold-weather use by those equipped for it.

We had a wonderful time and enjoyed our camper immensely. The owner was very helpful and accommodating. Thank you
Brenda S. - Jul 2026
The camper is well taken care of, has everything you would need for a camping trip, and the host was really easy to communicate with and make time arrangements. We had it delivered and everything was very smooth and easy. We have two small boys who shared the oversized bottom bunk. This is a great RV for families, not too tight of quarters but still a very manageable towing size. I would definitely recommend this RV.

Booking a site near Grant
Private campgrounds in the Grant area take reservations directly through their own websites or through Campspot, which handles bookings for several of the larger operators including Salmon Run Campground Canoes and Little Switzerland Resort and Campground. Holiday weekends around Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day book up months in advance, especially for riverfront and full-hookup sites.
For public land, campgrounds inside the Manistee National Forest are reserved through Recreation.gov on a rolling six-month window. Newaygo County Parks manages several nearby county campgrounds through its own reservation portal.
Most operators require a deposit at booking and enforce a two-night minimum on summer weekends.
What to expect on the ground
Grant itself is a small town with a grocery store, hardware store, gas, and a handful of restaurants. Larger supply runs, big-box stores, medical care, and propane are typically handled in Newaygo, Fremont, or Muskegon.
Campground road surfaces vary. Riverfront properties like Chinook Camping and Salmon Run Campground Canoes have sandy, wooded sites that can be tight for longer Class A rigs, so callers should ask about site length and turning radius. Crockery Creek RV Park offers full-hookup concrete pads that accept big rigs, and Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - West Michigan generally offers easier pull-through access.
Cell coverage is reliable in town but patchy inside the national forest. Mosquitoes and biting flies peak in June and early July, so screens, repellent, and a screen room are worth packing.

October brings peak leaf-peeping with highs near 60 Fahrenheit. Winter (December through February) often drops to the teens and 20s with significant snow, so many hosts pause rentals then. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Grant, with delivery available on most listings. Mileage allowances vary by host, anywhere from 100 free miles per night to unlimited, so check the listing before booking. Pro tip: bundling delivery, setup, and a linens add-on is the easiest way to walk into a fully ready RV at Salmon Run, perfect for stress-free family arrivals.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Grant%2C%20MichiganHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book an RV in Grant through RVezy, you pay online by credit card directly through the platform, never cash to the host. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup and released after the RV is returned in the condition it left in. To avoid surprises, do a walkaround with the host at pickup and return, taking time-stamped photos of the exterior, interior, mileage, and tank levels. Pro tip: keep gas receipts and dump-station receipts from your trip, they make any minor question about return condition or fuel level easy to resolve in minutes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Grant in winter, and how do I prep for cold weather?
Yes, a winter RV adventure in Newaygo County can be magical, snow-dusted pines, ice fishing on Hardy Dam Pond, and quiet trails through Manistee National Forest. Many Grant hosts pause rentals from December through February due to cold nights (lows often dip into the teens), but some offer four-season RVs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and propane furnaces. If you book a winter trip, plan to stay at campgrounds with full electric shore power, top off propane every 2 to 3 days, and use the RV's tank heaters to prevent freeze-ups. Pro tip: message hosts directly through their listing to confirm winter readiness, and pack extra blankets, the upside is gorgeous solitude and lower rates.
