Campgrounds near Lincoln Park, Michigan

Lincoln Park sits in Wayne County just south of Detroit, a few miles inland from the Detroit River and the Canadian border. The city itself is fully residential and does not contain a campground, so RV travellers base their trips at parks in the surrounding metro area and across the river in Ontario. Interstate 75 and the Ambassador Bridge and Detroit-Windsor Tunnel make both sides of the border reachable within a short drive. The closest options skew toward private RV resorts rather than public land. Sun Retreats Amherstburg and Windsor Campground Inc sit across the river in Ontario, while Wildwood Golf and RV Resort and Camp Lord Willing Management RV Park and Campground offer full-hookup sites on the Michigan side. Travellers heading to Ontario should confirm passport and pet-import requirements before crossing. Most sites in this area cater to trailers and motorhomes with standard hookups, and demand climbs sharply once school lets out in late June.

Things to do near Lincoln Park

The Detroit metro area anchors the trip. Families drive to the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Belle Isle Park on the Detroit River, and the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak. Lake Erie Metropark to the south has a marshland boardwalk and a wave pool that suits younger kids on hot afternoons. Across the border, Point Pelee National Park is a major birding destination during spring and fall migration, and the shoreline drive between Amherstburg and Kingsville passes wineries and small beach parks. Guests staying at Sun Retreats Amherstburg or Windsor Campground Inc can reach Point Pelee in under an hour. Fishing on the Detroit River and western Lake Erie is a common draw, with walleye runs in spring and perch through summer.

The southeast Michigan camping season runs roughly late April through mid-October. Many private RV parks and most public campgrounds close for the winter, and shoulder-season sites can still see hard freezes overnight into early May. Water hookups are often shut off before Halloween. July and August are peak season. Weekends fill first at the popular parks, and holiday weekends (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) book up several months in advance. Summer thunderstorms are common in the afternoons, and high humidity is normal. September brings cooler nights, fewer bugs, and much easier reservations, which is why many repeat visitors prefer it. Fall colour typically peaks in the Detroit region during mid to late October. Winter camping options are very limited, and RV travellers should not plan trips between December and March unless a specific park confirms it stays open with hookups.

This was our very first time renting an RV, and I honestly couldn't have asked for a better experience. From the moment we booked, our host, Binbin, was incredibly kind, patient, and welcoming. Anytime I had a question—no matter how small—I could call or message him, and he was always quick to answer. He took the time to explain everything thoroughly and never made me feel like I was asking too many questions. By the time we left, I felt like an RV pro thanks to him! The RV itself was absolutely beautiful, spotless, and exceptionally well maintained. It was comfortable, spacious, and had everything my family needed for an amazing trip. You can tell Binbin truly takes pride in taking care of his RV and making sure his guests have a wonderful experience. This trip created memories we'll never forget, and a big part of that was because of how wonderful Binbin was as a host. I genuinely can't say enough good things about him. If you're considering renting an RV, I highly recommend this one. We will definitely be renting from Binbin again for our future trips. Thank you, Binbin, for making our first RV adventure so enjoyable, stress-free, and memorable!

How to book a campsite near Lincoln Park

Michigan state park and recreation area campgrounds are booked through the Michigan DNR reservation system. Sites open on a rolling six-month window, so a July 15 arrival becomes available on January 15. Popular weekends can sell out within minutes of the window opening, so setting a calendar reminder helps. A Recreation Passport is required on any vehicle entering a Michigan state park or state forest campground, and it can be added at license-plate renewal or purchased on arrival. Ontario Parks uses a five-month rolling window through its own reservation service, opening at 7 a.m. Eastern, and a valid passport is needed to cross the border. Private parks such as Wildwood Golf and RV Resort, Sun Retreats Amherstburg, Windsor Campground Inc, and Camp Lord Willing Management RV Park and Campground book directly through their own websites, and deposits are typical for peak-season stays.

What to expect on site

Most RV parks near Lincoln Park are level, grassy, or gravel sites with 30- and 50-amp electric, water, and sewer. Wi-Fi coverage is common but variable, and cell service on major carriers is strong throughout the metro area and along the Ontario shoreline. Big-rig access is generally good, though a few older parks have tighter interior roads worth checking on satellite view before booking. Mosquitoes and biting flies pick up after wet spells in June and July, and the Detroit River corridor draws Canada geese year-round, so tidy food storage matters. Firewood should be bought locally on both sides of the border to limit the spread of emerald ash borer and other pests. Quiet hours are enforced at most parks, and generator use is usually restricted to daytime windows.
