Campgrounds near New Baltimore
New Baltimore sits on Anchor Bay at the northwest corner of Lake St. Clair in Macomb County, about 40 miles northeast of downtown Detroit. The area serves as a base for RV travelers exploring the Blue Water region, the St. Clair River, and Michigan's Thumb, with campgrounds ranging from waterfront resorts to wooded family parks within an hour's drive.
Closest to town, Northpointe Shores RV Resort sits on Anchor Bay in Ira Township, roughly two miles from New Baltimore, with paved full-hookup sites and adjacent marina access. North along the St. Clair River, Wagon Wheel - Algonac State Park and Saint Clair RV Resort put freighter watching and river fishing within easy reach. Inland options include Emmett KOA Holiday, a family-focused park built around a small lake, and Ruby Campground, a wooded property along Mill Creek west of Port Huron.
Most parks are within a 45-minute drive of New Baltimore, so day trips between waterfront and inland campgrounds are practical for longer stays.
Things to do near New Baltimore
Lake St. Clair anchors most trips. Anchor Bay supports boating, kayaking, and fishing for walleye, bass, and perch, and public beaches at Walter and Mary Burke Park in downtown New Baltimore offer swimming and a boardwalk. RV travelers staying at Northpointe Shores RV Resort have boat launch access adjacent to the resort.
Up the St. Clair River, Algonac State Park is known for close-up views of international freighters, riverfront trails, and a shooting and archery range. The 54-mile Bridge to Bay Trail runs through the park for hiking and biking.
Families staying inland at Emmett KOA Holiday can swim and fish on the on-site lake, and Ruby Campground offers marked mountain bike and walking trails plus a stocked pond on Mill Creek. Downtown Detroit, Port Huron, and the Blue Water Bridge crossing to Canada are all within an hour.

The camping season in southeast Michigan runs roughly May through October, matching the operating windows of most private resorts in the area. Northpointe Shores RV Resort is open May 1 through October 31, and other private parks nearby follow similar schedules. Algonac State Park is technically open year-round, but water, showers, and restrooms are not maintained during the winter season.
Summer is the peak booking period. Weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day fill quickly at waterfront parks, and holiday weekends often carry two- or three-day minimum stays. Book several weeks ahead for July and August, and further out for lakefront or full-hookup sites.
Late spring and early fall bring cooler nights, thinner crowds, and better site availability. September in particular offers mild days, active freighter traffic on the St. Clair River, and open weekday sites at most parks. Winter camping is limited to a few state park loops with no potable water or heated facilities.

This was our very first time renting an RV, and I honestly couldn't have asked for a better experience. From the moment we booked, our host, Binbin, was incredibly kind, patient, and welcoming. Anytime I had a question—no matter how small—I could call or message him, and he was always quick to answer. He took the time to explain everything thoroughly and never made me feel like I was asking too many questions. By the time we left, I felt like an RV pro thanks to him! The RV itself was absolutely beautiful, spotless, and exceptionally well maintained. It was comfortable, spacious, and had everything my family needed for an amazing trip. You can tell Binbin truly takes pride in taking care of his RV and making sure his guests have a wonderful experience. This trip created memories we'll never forget, and a big part of that was because of how wonderful Binbin was as a host. I genuinely can't say enough good things about him. If you're considering renting an RV, I highly recommend this one. We will definitely be renting from Binbin again for our future trips. Thank you, Binbin, for making our first RV adventure so enjoyable, stress-free, and memorable!

How to book near New Baltimore
Michigan state park sites, including Wagon Wheel at Algonac State Park, are reserved through the state's central system at MiDNRReservations.com or by phone. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance, and a Michigan Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry. Popular waterfront sites and holiday weekends are often gone the day they open.
Private parks book directly. Northpointe Shores RV Resort takes reservations by phone and through its website, with seasonal and monthly guests booking earliest and short-term stays opening later. Emmett KOA Holiday books through the KOA website, app, or phone. Saint Clair RV Resort and Ruby Campground both book through their own operator websites or by phone.
For holiday weekends, expect minimum-stay requirements at most private resorts. Confirm rig length limits and RV age restrictions before booking, since some resorts, including Northpointe Shores, operate as adult-oriented parks with additional rules.
What to expect near New Baltimore
Expect a mix of upscale waterfront resorts and traditional wooded campgrounds. Northpointe Shores RV Resort offers paved sites, full hookups with 50/30/20 amp service, a bathhouse and laundry, and a lakeside community fire pit, and operates as an adult-oriented resort. State park loops at Algonac feature paved pads, electric service, modern restrooms with hot showers, and a dump station, though privacy between sites is limited.
Inland parks lean rustic and family-friendly. Emmett KOA Holiday offers RV sites, tent sites, and cabins with typical KOA amenities. Ruby Campground has rustic, electric, and full-hookup sites, cabins, a camp store, and a bathhouse, with limited cell coverage in the creek basin.
Mosquitoes can be heavy near river and creek sites in early summer. Bring leveling blocks, longer hookup hoses, and firewood purchased locally, since Michigan restricts moving firewood between areas.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=New%20Baltimore%2C%20MichiganDo I need a special license to rent an RV in New Baltimore, Michigan?
Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in New Baltimore for virtually every motorhome, campervan, or travel trailer on RVezy. Michigan only requires a special endorsement or CDL for very large or commercial rigs, and standard RVezy rentals fall under that threshold. You'll just need to be 25 or older and upload a valid ID during the quick approved driver verification on RVezy. Visiting from out of the country? Every RV rental in New Baltimore booked on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can pull out of the driveway feeling covered. It isn't a replacement for traditional auto insurance, but it removes the biggest worry first-time renters mention. Book with confidence and focus on the freighter views.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if my plans change? Can I cancel my New Baltimore RV booking?
Yes, plans change and RVezy is built to handle it. RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy across the platform, and that policy includes a grace period right after booking so you can lock in your dates without anxiety. The full cancellation policy is available on the RVezy Help Center, and support can answer questions before you confirm. Bottom line: booking your New Baltimore RV trip today is a low-risk move.

Once you're rolling, Michigan's Department of Natural Resources allows leashed pets at most state park campgrounds, including Algonac State Park about 20 minutes north, where dogs love walking the Bridge to Bay Trail (pets are not allowed at designated swimming beaches). Lake St. Clair Metropark in nearby Harrison Township also has a dedicated dog area. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and bring a crate for the drive, it makes pickup day smooth.
michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/state-parks/parks/algonacCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in New Baltimore?
Yes, RV delivery is one of the most-loved features on RVezy, especially for first-time renters. Just use the Delivery filter when searching and enter your destination address to see exact fees, which typically scale with distance. It's the easiest way to skip towing through Macomb County traffic and start your trip already parked at the lake.

June, July, and August typically bring warm days in the low-to-mid 80s F, perfect for swimming at Lake St. Clair Metropark and grilling lakeside. September and early October are the local insider pick: daytime highs in the 60s and 70s F, fall foliage along the Bridge to Bay Trail, fewer mosquitoes, and lower campground demand. For a sweet-spot New Baltimore RV trip, target early to mid September.
weather.gov/dtx/I'm a first-time renter. Will I really be okay driving an RV?
Yes, and you're in good company, many New Baltimore guests are first-time renters. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the dashboard, slide-outs, generator, water systems, and waste tanks before you ever pull onto 23 Mile Road. They're available by phone or text throughout your trip too. New Baltimore is also one of the easier launch points in Michigan: flat terrain, wide suburban roads, and a quick on-ramp to I-94 mean you'll get comfortable before any tight campground turn. Pro tip for first time renting an RV: pick a Class C or campervan rental New Baltimore listing under 25 feet, they drive almost like a big van.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
Help is one call away, 24/7, on every RVezy booking. Your renter protection plan includes round-the-clock roadside assistance covering tows, flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and fuel delivery, whether you're parked at Algonac State Park or stopped on I-69 heading toward Port Huron. Your host is also a great second resource and usually responds quickly by text to walk you through common issues like a tripped breaker or a finicky propane regulator. RVezy support is available the entire trip through the app. Save both numbers in your phone at pickup and you'll never feel stranded on your motorhome rental New Baltimore adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I drive my New Baltimore RV rental into Canada?
Cross-border trips to Ontario may be allowed, but it depends on the host and the rental's insurance coverage, so always message the host before booking if Canada is part of your plan. New Baltimore is only about 60 miles from the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron, which puts Grand Bend, Pinery Provincial Park, and other Ontario destinations within reach. Bring a passport or other compliant travel document, a printed copy of the rental agreement, and proof of insurance valid in Canada. Important: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance does not extend there. Stick to US and approved Canadian routes and you've got endless Great Lakes shoreline to explore.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for my RV trip from New Baltimore?
Plan smart and fuel won't surprise you. A Class C motorhome typically gets 8 to 10 MPG, a Class A around 6 to 8 MPG, a campervan 14 to 18 MPG, and a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer 10 to 12 MPG. With Michigan gas prices in the Detroit metro generally in the mid-$3 range per gallon, a 500-mile RV road trip from New Baltimore to Mackinaw City and back in a Class C runs roughly $175 to $250 in fuel. Many New Baltimore hosts include or cap generator hours on RVezy, which keeps overnight A/C costs predictable. Pro tip: fuel up at a high-volume warehouse club along Hall Road before heading north for some of the cheapest fuel within 30 miles.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near New Baltimore?
For peak summer weekends, book 4 to 6 months ahead, especially for Algonac State Park, which is reservable up to six months in advance through MiDNRReservations.com (the official Michigan DNR reservation system). Holiday weekends like Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day at Algonac and nearby private parks sell out quickly when the booking window opens. Weeknight stays and shoulder-season trips in May or late September are often bookable just a week out. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly six months before your target arrival date and log into MiDNRReservations at 8 a.m. Eastern, that's when the riverfront sites at Algonac go fast.
midnrreservations.com/What are the local driving conditions like around New Baltimore?
Driving an RV around New Baltimore is genuinely beginner-friendly. The area is flat, suburban, and built around wide arteries like 23 Mile Road, Gratiot Avenue (M-3), and I-94, all of which handle big rigs well. Watch for two specific things: rush-hour congestion on I-94 between New Baltimore and Detroit (avoid 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. on weekdays), and occasional low railroad underpasses on older roads in Mount Clemens, stick to truck routes when in doubt. In winter, lake-effect snow off Lake St. Clair can move in quickly. If highway driving makes you nervous, choose a host who offers RV delivery New Baltimore-wide and skip the freeway entirely.
mdotjboss.state.mi.us/MiDrive/mapWhat hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds near New Baltimore?
You'll be well-served at the campgrounds near New Baltimore. Algonac State Park's modern loops offer electric hookups, paved pads, hot showers, flush toilets, a dump station, and potable water fill-ups. Private RV resorts on Anchor Bay typically offer full hookups (water, sewer, electric) at paved sites along with marina access. KOAs in the wider region around Port Huron usually include full hookups, laundry, Wi-Fi, and pools. Macomb County also has public dump stations available between trips. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving the host's location, taste and pressure vary site to site.
michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/state-parks/parks/algonacWhat features will the RV itself come with?
More than you'd expect. A typical RVezy rental in New Baltimore comes ready-to-camp with real beds (queen masters are common), a working kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, dinette seating, roof A/C, propane furnace, and seatbelts for travel. Many listings include a TV, and some offer Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor grills, bike racks, and onboard generators (handy for boondocking near Anchor Bay). Each listing on RVezy spells out exactly what's included plus what's offered as a paid add-on, like bedding kits, camp chairs, or kayaks. Pro tip: filter by sleeps count for your group and check the photos carefully so your family RV trip New Baltimore weekend goes smoothly.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=New%20Baltimore%2C%20MichiganHow do pickup, dropoff, mileage, and add-ons work?
It's all transparent and set by the host on the listing page. Most New Baltimore hosts schedule a 30 to 60 minute pickup window for the walkthrough and another at return. Mileage policies vary: some include a set number of free miles per day, others offer unlimited mileage RV rental options (great for that Traverse City or Mackinaw run), and any overage is a flat per-mile fee shown upfront. Popular add-ons in this region include lake gear (kayaks, paddleboards), generator hours, bedding and towel kits, propane fills, and dump-and-clean packages. Pro tip: bundle add-ons during checkout to lock pricing, and confirm pickup time the day before to plan around Macomb County traffic.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=New%20Baltimore%2C%20MichiganHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is handled securely through RVezy, never directly with the host, which protects both sides. You pay the rental total at booking using a credit card, and the host receives funds after your trip starts. The security deposit is a separate hold (not a charge) placed on your card before pickup, with the amount listed clearly on every listing so there are no surprises. Return the RV on time, in similar condition, and following the host's tank instructions, and the hold is released after the trip. Pro tip for your RV rental in New Baltimore: take date-stamped photos of the interior, exterior, and odometer at pickup and dropoff, it's the easiest way to protect your full deposit.
