Campgrounds near Romeo, Michigan
Romeo sits in northern Macomb County, roughly 40 miles north of Detroit, and is bracketed by state recreation areas and private RV parks within an hour's drive. The terrain west and north of town is glacial moraine country: wooded, hilly, and dotted with small lakes, which shapes most of the camping options in the region.
The closest Michigan DNR property is Metamora-Hadley Recreation Area, located eight miles south of Lapeer and surrounding the 80-acre Lake Minnawanna, with a modern campground, a camper cabin, a designated swim beach, an accessible fishing pier, picnic areas, and six miles of trails. Ortonville Equestrian Recreation Area, in north Oakland and southern Lapeer counties, sits within a larger 5,400-acre park known for wooded, hilly terrain, several lakes, a shooting range, and trails open to hiking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, and mountain biking.
Private options round out the choices. Emmett KOA Holiday and Attica Pines Campground sit north and northeast of Romeo along the I-69 corridor, while Northpointe Shores RV Resort provides a full-hookup base closer to Lake Huron.
Things to do near Romeo
Water is the main draw. The 723-acre Metamora-Hadley Recreation Area includes a designated swim beach, an accessible fishing pier, and no-wake boating access on Lake Minnawanna, where anglers target bluegill, largemouth bass, and pike. The campground store rents rowboats, kayaks, paddleboards, stand-up paddleboards, paddle boats, and canoes, and also carries firewood, ice, propane, and bike rentals.
For riders and mountain bikers, Ortonville Equestrian Recreation Area offers designated equestrian trails winding through Hadley Hills, with lakes and moraine ridges left by melting glacial ice. Six miles of trails at Metamora-Hadley convert to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing routes in winter.
Off-park, Romeo itself is known for cider mills, orchards, and peach farms, which draw heavy day-trip traffic in September and October.

Michigan's state recreation areas near Romeo run a spring-through-fall camping season. Metamora-Hadley Campground typically operates April through October, and other DNR sites in the region follow similar windows, with limited or no facilities in winter. Summer is peak: sites fill quickly on holiday weekends, and reservations should be locked in well ahead.
Spring brings variable weather and wet trails, especially at the equestrian sites, where saturated ground can affect trail conditions. Late May through mid-June is a good window for cooler nights and lighter crowds before schools release. July and August bring the warmest lake temperatures and the busiest campgrounds.
Fall is a strong shoulder season. Leaf color peaks in mid-October across Lapeer and Oakland counties, and Metamora-Hadley runs a Fall Harvest Festival with pumpkin decorating, crafts and games, a costume parade, and campsite decorations. Nights turn cold quickly after mid-October, so RVers should be ready to winterize water lines toward the end of the season.

This was our very first time renting an RV, and I honestly couldn't have asked for a better experience. From the moment we booked, our host, Binbin, was incredibly kind, patient, and welcoming. Anytime I had a question—no matter how small—I could call or message him, and he was always quick to answer. He took the time to explain everything thoroughly and never made me feel like I was asking too many questions. By the time we left, I felt like an RV pro thanks to him! The RV itself was absolutely beautiful, spotless, and exceptionally well maintained. It was comfortable, spacious, and had everything my family needed for an amazing trip. You can tell Binbin truly takes pride in taking care of his RV and making sure his guests have a wonderful experience. This trip created memories we'll never forget, and a big part of that was because of how wonderful Binbin was as a host. I genuinely can't say enough good things about him. If you're considering renting an RV, I highly recommend this one. We will definitely be renting from Binbin again for our future trips. Thank you, Binbin, for making our first RV adventure so enjoyable, stress-free, and memorable!

How to book a campsite near Romeo
State-park campsites in Michigan are booked through the Michigan DNR reservation system at midnrreservations.com, which opens a rolling six-month booking window for campsites, lodging, and harbor slips. Metamora-Hadley and Ortonville Equestrian Recreation Area both use this system, and popular summer weekends can fill within minutes of the window opening.
A Recreation Passport is also required for vehicle entry into all state park and forest campgrounds, and it can be added at license-plate renewal or purchased on arrival.
Private parks such as Emmett KOA Holiday, Attica Pines Campground, and Northpointe Shores RV Resort take reservations directly through their own websites or, in the case of the KOA, the KOA reservation platform.
What to expect on-site
Facilities vary widely between state and private parks in the area. Metamora-Hadley has 214 modern sites along Lake Minnawanna spread across two loops, with 20/30-amp electric hookups, no site water or sewer, a two-lane sanitation station, water spigots throughout the park, modern restrooms and hot showers, and a camp store at the entrance. Sites vary in size and levelness, and many are dirt, so blocks and leveling gear are useful.
Ortonville Equestrian Recreation Area is rustic. Expect vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings, with no hookups; it is designed around horse trailers but works for self-contained RVs.
Standard Michigan state park quiet hours run 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., and a Recreation Passport is required for entry.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Romeo, MI
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Romeo, MI?
RV rental in Romeo, MI is approachable for most budgets, with typical nightly prices ranging from about $90 to $160 for travel trailers, $150 to $250 for Class C motorhomes, and $225 and up for Class A motorhomes. Because hosts on RVezy set their own pricing, weekly and multi-night discounts are common and can meaningfully lower your nightly rate. To find a cheap RV rental Romeo travelers love, try midweek dates in May or September when demand is lower than peak summer. Pro tip: filter by Instant Book, sort by price, and message hosts about multi-night discounts before you confirm your booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Romeo,%20MichiganDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Romeo, Michigan?
Good news: a regular Michigan driver's license (or any valid US or Canadian license) is all you need to rent an RV in Romeo, MI. There is no commercial driver's license (CDL) or RV endorsement required for any motorhome or trailer you'll find on RVezy, whether it's a campervan, Class C, or 35-foot Class A. You'll need to be 25 or older and verify your ID through the RVezy platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto association before your trip. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the licensing side really is.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included when I rent an RV in Romeo, MI?
Every RV rental in Romeo, MI booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers accidental damage to the vehicle based on the tier you select at checkout, not the host. That means if a branch nicks the awning at Algonac State Park or you scuff a fender on a country road near Romeo, you're covered up to the plan's limits. Pro tip: review the protection tiers carefully at booking and pick the level that matches your comfort with risk. It's one of the biggest reasons first-timers feel confident saying yes to a Michigan RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Romeo RV trip plans change?
You can book your Romeo RV trip with confidence because RVezy, not the individual host, sets a clear cancellation policy that includes a full money-back grace period right after booking. After that window, your refund depends on how far out from your trip you cancel. Listings don't display individual cancellation rules because the policy is managed at the platform level, which keeps things fair and predictable. If a host has to cancel on you, RVezy refunds your booking or provides travel credit. Pro tip: book early to lock in your dates and your preferred rig, then review the current cancellation policy on the RVezy Help Center before you confirm.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Romeo, MI?
Absolutely, your dog is welcome on plenty of pet-friendly RV rental Romeo options. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see hosts who happily welcome four-legged co-pilots, and message them about any pet fee or deposit before you book. Once you're rolling, Michigan makes it easy: pets are allowed at most state parks and state forest campgrounds (except designated swim beaches), including nearby Algonac State Park and Metamora-Hadley Recreation Area. Stony Creek Metropark, just 15 minutes south of Romeo, has off-leash dog areas and miles of shady trails. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl and your pet's vaccination records, since some private campgrounds ask to see them at check-in.
michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/campingCan the RV be delivered to my campsite or home in Romeo?
Yes, RV delivery Romeo is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters who'd rather skip the stress of driving a big rig out of the gate. Many local hosts will deliver your motorhome or travel trailer directly to your driveway in Romeo, to a family member's place in Washington Township, or straight to campgrounds like Addison Oaks County Park. They'll level it, hook it up to power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. Just filter for Delivery on the search page and check each host's delivery radius and fees. Pro tip: ask about full setup and end-of-trip pickup too, for the easiest first-time RV experience possible.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Romeo,%20MichiganHow far can I drive on an RV rental from Romeo, MI?

From Romeo you can reach Frankenmuth in about 1 hour 15 minutes (70 miles), Traverse City in about 4 hours (220 miles), Mackinaw City in about 4.5 hours (260 miles), or Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in roughly 7 hours (430 miles). Pro tip: estimate your route mileage before booking and message hosts who advertise generous or unlimited mileage so there are zero surprises at drop-off. That's how Michigan road-trippers keep the budget tight.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Romeo,%20MichiganWhere are the best campgrounds near Romeo, MI for an RV trip?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping Romeo. Some of the best campgrounds near Romeo include Addison Oaks County Park (10 miles west, full hookups, lakeside sites, mountain bike trails), Metamora-Hadley Recreation Area (20 miles northwest, sandy swim beach and electric sites), Algonac State Park (35 miles east on the St. Clair River with freighter-watching), Camp Lord Willing RV Park & Campground in North Branch (35 miles north, family-friendly), and Wolverine Campground in Columbiaville (about 40 miles). Pro tip: state-park sites book up months in advance for summer weekends through Michigan DNR, so reserve as soon as your Romeo RV trip dates are set, then layer in private campgrounds for flexibility.
michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/state-parksWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Romeo, MI?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for a Romeo RV trip, with the peak being late June through August when daytime highs typically sit in the upper 70s to mid-80s F and lake water is finally swimmable. September is a local favorite: warm days in the 70s, cool nights perfect for campfires, fewer mosquitoes, and the famous Romeo Peach Festival kicking off Labor Day weekend. October brings beautiful fall color along M-53 toward the Thumb. Winters in Romeo are cold (often in the 20s F with snowfall), so many hosts close their listings from late November through March. Pro tip: book your shoulder-season trip in March or April for the best rates and pick of inventory.
weather.gov/dtx/I've never driven an RV before. Is renting in Romeo a good idea?
Yes, Romeo is a great place for your first time renting an RV. The roads around Romeo (M-53, 32 Mile Road, and Van Dyke) are wide, lower-traffic, and gently rolling, so you can get comfortable behind the wheel before tackling any highway. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, holding tanks, and hookups so you're never guessing. If you'd rather skip driving altogether, pick a host who offers delivery and setup. Pro tip: choose a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer for your first trip, since they drive much like a large pickup. Most renters are surprised how natural it feels within the first 20 minutes.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Romeo,%20MichiganWhat happens if my RV breaks down during a trip from Romeo?
You're covered: every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you're 5 miles from Romeo or 5 hours up in the Upper Peninsula. The roadside team can dispatch a tow, mobile mechanic, tire service, or fuel delivery anywhere in Michigan. Your host is also just a message away through the RVezy app for quick questions like resetting the generator or troubleshooting the fridge. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of your RV's VIN, plate, and propane tank locations before you leave the driveway, so if you ever do call for help, the dispatcher can get you back on the road faster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Romeo RV rental across the Canadian border or to other states?
You can absolutely turn your Romeo motorhome rental into a multi-state or even cross-border adventure. Most RVezy hosts allow travel throughout the lower 48 states, so popular routes from Romeo include Lake Michigan's west coast, the Smoky Mountains, or the Upper Peninsula. Cross-border travel into Canada (Windsor, Toronto, Niagara Falls) may be allowed depending on the host and insurance coverage, so message the host directly before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted because RVezy insurance does not extend there. Pro tip: if you're heading to Canada, have your passport, the host's written permission, and proof of insurance ready at the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron, about 45 miles east of Romeo.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for an RV from Romeo?
Plan smart and your fuel costs won't blow the budget. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves, but your tow vehicle typically gets 10 to 14 MPG while towing. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes run 8 to 12 MPG, and big Class A coaches hover around 6 to 9 MPG. Michigan gas prices typically sit near the US average, and Romeo has convenient stations along M-53 and Van Dyke before you hit the open road. For a 500-mile round trip in a Class C at current Michigan pump prices, plan for roughly $150 to $200 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Romeo before heading north, since prices often climb the closer you get to tourist hubs like Traverse City and Mackinaw City.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Romeo, MI?
Book early and you'll get the best sites. Michigan state park campgrounds (Algonac, Metamora-Hadley, Lakeport, Port Crescent) open reservations 6 months in advance through the Michigan DNR's reservation system at MiDNRReservations.com, and prime summer weekends fill within hours of release. Macomb and Oakland county parks like Stony Creek and Addison Oaks book 12 months out. For private campgrounds and KOAs around Romeo, 2 to 3 months ahead is usually plenty, except for holiday weekends. Pro tip: if you're aiming for a 4th of July or Labor Day Romeo RV trip, set a calendar reminder for exactly 6 months prior at 8:00 AM Eastern, when DNR sites release, and you'll snag the best lakeside spots before everyone else.
midnrreservations.com/What are local driving conditions like around Romeo, MI?
Driving an RV around Romeo is refreshingly easy. The village sits in northern Macomb County where rural two-lane roads like 32 Mile, Van Dyke (M-53), and Romeo Plank give you plenty of room. I-94 and I-75 are wide interstates that handle big rigs comfortably. Watch for low railroad underpasses on older streets if you head south toward Detroit (some clear only 11 to 13 feet, while many RVs are 11 to 12.5 feet), so stick to the highways. Winter brings snow and lake-effect squalls from November through March. Pro tip: if you're nervous about Detroit metro traffic, book delivery so the host drops the RV at your campground, and you'll only drive scenic Thumb-area country roads.
michigan.gov/mdotWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Romeo, MI?
Campgrounds near Romeo run the full spectrum so you can match the experience to your style. Most private parks like Camp Lord Willing and Hickory Haven offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, and sewer), plus showers, laundry, Wi-Fi, and dump stations. Michigan state park campgrounds typically provide electric-only sites with a central dump station and potable water fill, modern restrooms, and hot showers. Need to dump or fill water in Romeo? The closest convenient station is at Addison Oaks County Park. Pro tip: ask whether your specific site is back-in or pull-through when booking, because pull-throughs are noticeably easier for first-timers maneuvering a larger Class C or fifth wheel.
michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/state-parks/campingWhat features and amenities come with RV rentals in Romeo?
Romeo RVs come loaded for comfortable Michigan camping. Most motorhome rental Romeo listings include a queen bed, fully equipped kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), bathroom with shower, dining area, roof AC, furnace, and a TV with DVD or streaming. Many newer rigs include Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor speakers, awnings, solar panels, and onboard generators for boondocking. Seatbelts are clearly marked, and your host will show you exactly how many passengers can legally ride during transit at the walkthrough. Pro tip: if you're traveling with a family, filter by sleeping capacity and seatbelt count on RVezy so the rig comfortably fits everyone for the whole trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Romeo,%20MichiganWhat add-ons and pickup options do hosts offer in Romeo?
You can customize your Romeo RV rental with useful add-ons. Common extras include linen and bedding packages ($25 to $75), camp chairs and outdoor rugs ($15 to $40), kitchen kits with pots and dishes ($25 to $50), plus bikes, kayaks, generators, and propane refills. Many hosts offer a dump and clean fee ($75 to $150) if you'd rather skip emptying tanks yourself, which most first-timers happily pay. Mileage policies typically range from 100 miles per day to unlimited. Pro tip: bundle add-ons at booking instead of asking later (it's usually cheaper), and confirm pickup and drop-off windows since most Romeo hosts offer afternoon pickup and a morning drop-off the day your trip ends.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Romeo,%20MichiganHow does payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Romeo?
Payment is simple and fully handled through the RVezy platform: you pay with a credit card at booking, never directly to the host, which keeps everything secure and traceable. A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card before your trip starts (typical range is $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) and is released after drop-off, assuming no damage and the rig is returned with the agreed fuel and tank levels. Pro tip: do a quick walk-around video at pickup and drop-off and send it to your host through the RVezy chat. It's the fastest way to avoid disputes and get that deposit released back to your account within a few business days of finishing your Romeo RV trip.
