Campgrounds and RV parks near Spring Arbor, MI

Water recreation drives most trip plans. The chain of Irish Hills lakes east of Spring Arbor supports swimming, kayaking, and small-boat fishing, and Irish Hills Resort Campgrounds places RV renters near those lakes, while Somerset Beach Campground maintains its own private lake where guests can fish and launch kayaks. Waterloo State Recreation Area adds a swimming beach, several picnic sites, 11 fishing lakes, and eight boat launches. On land, trail options range from short lake loops to the long-distance Waterloo-Pinckney hiking route. Horse 'N Around Stables offers guided group horseback rides and pony rides, and the Gerald Eddy Discovery Center introduces visitors to geology and the diverse natural habitats found within Waterloo. Race weekends at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn draw heavy RV traffic; families visiting outside race dates find quieter conditions at nearby parks such as Rockey's Campground, Hideaway RV Park, and Way Back In Campground.

The region runs a classic Michigan camping calendar. Jackson experiences a humid continental climate marked by very large seasonal temperature contrasts, with warm summers that bring the year's highest precipitation and cold, snowy winters. Most private campgrounds open in April or May and close in mid-October, so trip planning centers on that window. June through August is peak season. Weekends at lake-oriented parks such as Somerset Beach Campground and Irish Hills Resort Campgrounds often sell out well in advance, and race weekends at Michigan International Speedway compress availability across the entire Jackson-Irish Hills area. Mid-week arrivals typically hold more options. Shoulder-season camping in May and September brings cooler nights, fewer bugs, and open sites, though some amenities such as pools and beaches may operate on reduced schedules. Snowfall days occur from January through May and October through December, with roughly 16.57 inches accumulating on average annually, effectively closing most private RV parks; winter camping is limited to select state park loops that stay open year-round.

Sites near Spring Arbor split between wooded lake loops and open grassy fields. Somerset Beach Campground and Irish Hills Resort Campgrounds trend toward family-focused layouts with beach access and organized activities. Rockey's Campground, Way Back In Campground, and Hideaway RV Park offer quieter, smaller-scale settings closer to Jackson and Spring Arbor. Hookup availability varies. Most private parks provide 30 or 50-amp electric plus water; sewer service is site-specific rather than universal, and dump stations serve the rest. Standard infrastructure typically includes restrooms, showers, a dump station, and WiFi. Quiet hours run 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. at Michigan state parks, and private parks in the area follow similar rules, though Somerset Beach designates 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. as quiet hours. To limit the spread of invasive pests, purchase certified heat-treated firewood locally rather than hauling it across the state.
