Campgrounds and RV parks near Ubly, MI

Lake Huron drives most trip planning. Port Crescent State Park Campground sits along three miles of sandy shoreline and includes hiking and cross-country ski trails plus a designated dark sky preserve, with an observation platform near Parking Lot D for stargazing and birding. From nearby Port Austin, paddlers can reach Turnip Rock via a popular out-and-back kayak route, with rentals available from local outfitters. Sleeper State Park adds a half-mile day-use beach reached by a pedestrian overpass across M-25, forested dune trails, and a fish-cleaning station near the campground office for anglers using nearby boating access sites. For kids, Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Lake Huron runs a splash pad, jumping pillows, mini-golf, and scheduled character meet-and-greets. Camper's Haven Family Campground offers an indoor heated pool, an 18-hole disc golf course, a catch-and-release pond, and themed weekend events.

The Michigan Thumb has a short, well-defined camping season. Michigan state park modern campgrounds in the area, including Port Crescent State Park Campground and Sleeper State Park, typically run from mid-April through mid-October. Private parks such as Camper's Haven Family Campground and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Lake Huron generally operate on a similar warm-season schedule; confirm dates directly with each operator. Summer is the busiest stretch, particularly weekends in July and August and the Independence Day holiday. Lake Huron beach sites at Port Crescent State Park Campground and Sleeper State Park fill fastest, and Caseville's Cheeseburger in Paradise festival in August drives demand well beyond the immediate area. Booking several months out is standard for waterfront sites. Spring and fall bring cooler weather, thinner crowds, and good hiking and birding, though nights can be cold and Great Lakes storms roll through. Winter closes the modern campgrounds, but state park day-use areas stay open for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on park trails.

State park campgrounds in the Thumb are modern but not fully hooked up at every site. Sleeper State Park has 226 sites with 30 or 50-amp electric service and a sanitation station, but no water at individual sites; potable water is available at spigots around the campground. Port Crescent State Park Campground offers electric at every site with 20, 30, or 50-amp service and some full-hookup sites, and can accommodate rigs up to 50 feet. The modern toilet and shower buildings close after mid-October, with vault toilets available in shoulder season. Check-in at Michigan state park campsites is 3 p.m. with checkout at 1 p.m., while overnight lodging check-in is 4 p.m. and checkout is noon. Quiet hours run 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. Pets must stay on a six-foot leash and are not allowed on designated swim beaches. Firewood should be purchased locally to prevent invasive-insect spread. Cell service is generally reliable across the Thumb on major carriers.
