Campgrounds near Friars Point, Mississippi
Friars Point is a small town in Coahoma County in the Mississippi Delta, sitting directly on the Mississippi River in the northwestern corner of the state. It is one of the few places in Coahoma County with public access to the river's shore, which shapes the surrounding recreation options: levee roads, oxbow lakes, agricultural back roads, and river overlooks rather than a dense state-park system on the Mississippi side.
Most developed RV camping near Friars Point sits across the river in Arkansas, inside the St. Francis National Forest and Mississippi River State Park, or northward toward the Tunica casino corridor. Storm Creek Lake Recreational Area and Lone Pine sit on Crowley's Ridge inside Mississippi River State Park, while Isle Of Capri Casino RV Park, Hollywood Casino Hotel and RV Park, and Sams Town Gambling Hall RV Park cluster along the Tunica casino strip north of town.
The town itself is small, with limited services, so RV travelers typically use nearby Clarksdale for groceries, fuel, and blues venues, and pick a campground based on whether they want lakefront forest camping or full-hookup pads next to casino entertainment.
Things to do around Friars Point
Friars Point sits on the Mississippi Blues Trail, with a marker in town honoring Robert Nighthawk, who called Friars Point home at various times and recorded 'Friars Point Blues' in 1940. Clarksdale, about twenty minutes south, is the anchor for Delta blues travel, with juke joints, the Delta Blues Museum, and the crossroads of Highways 49 and 61.
On the Arkansas side, Mississippi River State Park and the surrounding St. Francis National Forest offer hiking on Crowley's Ridge, fishing on Bear Creek Lake and Storm Creek Lake, and a swim beach and boat access at Storm Creek. Kayak and paddleboard rentals are available at seasonal kiosks at both lakes.
Day trips north lead to the Tunica casino corridor for gaming, buffets, and live entertainment, and the Great River Road and Crowley's Ridge Parkway pass nearby as national scenic byways.

The Delta has a humid subtropical climate: hot, muggy summers, mild wet winters, and year-round precipitation with no true dry season. Annual rainfall around Clarksdale runs roughly 53 inches, with April typically the wettest month and late summer generally the driest stretch. Snow is rare and usually amounts to a trace.
Spring, from March through May, brings warming temperatures and high rain totals, along with the strongest thunderstorm and tornado risk in the Delta. Sites at Storm Creek Lake and Lone Pine are open, but low areas can flood after heavy rain, and the Mississippi River often runs high through spring.
Summer is hot and humid, with highs regularly in the low 90s Fahrenheit and heavy afternoon thunderstorms. The Storm Creek Lake swim beach operates from Memorial Day through Labor Day without lifeguard supervision. Fall brings cooler, drier weather and is generally the most comfortable stretch for RV travel, with the King Biscuit Blues Festival in nearby Helena drawing regional campers in October.
How to book a campsite
Sites at Storm Creek Lake Recreational Area and Lone Pine sit inside Mississippi River State Park and are reserved through the Arkansas State Parks reservation system, either online or by phone. Storm Creek Lake offers full-hookup sites with electricity, water, and sewer, walk-in tent sites with electricity, and five camper cabins with a family-style bathhouse. Lone Pine is primitive, with 14 sites near the lake, vault toilets, and a shared water source, and no hookups or showers.
The Tunica-area casino parks, including Isle Of Capri Casino RV Park, Hollywood Casino Hotel and RV Park, and Sams Town Gambling Hall RV Park, are booked directly with the property, usually by calling the hotel front desk. Casino parks typically require check-in inside the hotel before occupying a site.
What to expect
Expect flat Delta driving with narrow county roads and levee routes on the Mississippi side, and gently rolling forested terrain once across the river on Crowley's Ridge. Cell coverage is generally good along U.S. 61 and near Tunica and Clarksdale, and weaker on backroads and inside the national forest, including around the state park campgrounds.
Casino RV parks provide full hookups, paved pads, laundry, and easy walk-in access to restaurants and gaming, but they sit next to large parking lots rather than nature. Forest and state park campgrounds trade services for scenery, with lake access, wildlife, biting insects in warm months, and quiet nights.
Bring bug spray from spring through fall, monitor thunderstorm and river-flood forecasts, and plan grocery runs in Clarksdale or Tunica before heading to a lakeside site.
