Campgrounds and RV parks near Fulton, MS

The Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway is the main draw. Anglers fish for bass, crappie, bream, and catfish from banks, docks, and boats, and Smithville Marina Campground offers direct water access with a launch. Lake Lee at Tombigbee State Park is a 90-acre freshwater lake stocked with bass, bream, and catfish. Guests are asked to observe trolling speed only limits, and there is no skiing, jet skis, or swimming at Tombigbee, so the lake stays quiet for paddling and casting. Off the water, the Natchez Trace Parkway crosses just west of Fulton and offers slow scenic driving, picnic pullouts, and short walks. Tupelo, half an hour northwest, is the birthplace of Elvis Presley and headquarters of the Natchez Trace, and its Barnes Crossing area covers grocery, laundry, and big-box resupply for RV travelers. Families with kids will find disc golf, hiking, a boat launch, and a fishing lake at Tombigbee State Park.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in northeast Mississippi. March through May brings warm days, blooming hardwoods, and manageable humidity, though it is also a wet stretch and coincides with the region's severe-weather season: check forecasts for thunderstorms and monitor tornado watches. September through November delivers cooler nights, lower rainfall, and reliable fishing on the Tenn-Tom. Summer is hot and humid. In Fulton, the summers are long, hot, and muggy; the winters are short, cold, and wet, with afternoon thunderstorms common from June into August. Sites remain open, but full hookups with 50-amp service for air conditioning become important, and shaded loops like those at Tombigbee State Park are worth booking early. Peak season runs April through October, so weekends in that window fill first. Winter is the quietest season. Tombigbee State Park is open year-round, and most area campgrounds stay open, but expect cold snaps, occasional freezing rain, and reduced ranger presence. Anglers still fish the waterway through winter for crappie and catfish, and demand for sites is low outside of holiday weekends.

Sites in the Fulton area are generally flat, paved or gravel, and workable for larger rigs. The Tombigbee State Park campground features a loop of 20 paved sites that are available for RV or tent camping, with all sites equipped with electricity and water hookups, eighteen of which are also equipped with sewer. A sewage dump station is located on the main park road for park campground patrons. Cell coverage is generally usable on major carriers along US-78 and near Tupelo, but can be spotty in wooded lake loops. Expect hardwood shade, mosquitoes in warm months, and occasional wildlife including deer and wild turkey. Bring a surge protector, leveling blocks, and a fishing license if anyone plans to cast a line: a Mississippi fishing license is required for all persons between the ages of 16 and 65. Grocery, propane, laundry, and RV supplies are easiest to source in Tupelo or in Fulton itself along US-78.
