Campgrounds near Black Jack, Missouri
Black Jack sits in north St. Louis County, minutes from Interstate 270 and within easy reach of RV parks on both the Missouri and Illinois sides of the greater St. Louis metro. Travelers typically base here to visit downtown attractions like the Gateway Arch, Busch Stadium, the St. Louis Zoo, and Forest Park, while parking the rig at a full-hookup site outside the urban core.
Most nearby options are private RV parks with paved or concrete pads, full hookups, and interstate access. The St. Louis NE/I-270/Granite City KOA Journey is the KOA closest to St. Louis attractions, set up on Old Route 66 about 12 miles from downtown. DraftKings at Casino Queen RV Park sits along the Mississippi River in East St. Louis, minutes from downtown. Sundermeier RV Park is in historic St. Charles, Missouri, about 20 miles west of St. Louis, and Safari RV Park rounds out the private full-hookup options within roughly 15 miles of Black Jack.
For a more rustic option, Horseshoe Lake State Park in Madison County, Illinois offers primitive tent and trailer sites with a dump station, pit toilets, and water hydrants, open May through September.
Things to do near Black Jack
Base camp puts travelers within a short drive of downtown St. Louis, Forest Park, the Missouri Botanical Garden, the City Museum, and the Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site across the river in Illinois. Sports and concerts at Busch Stadium and the Enterprise Center are reachable by highway or MetroLink.
Active travelers can pick up the Katy Trail State Park, which runs along the Missouri River. Sundermeier RV Park sits adjacent to the Katy Trail, making it easy to walk or bike from the campground. Horseshoe Lake is popular for fishing, bird watching, hiking, and boating on the 1,200-acre lake.
Families stopping at the Granite City KOA get on-site recreation between day trips. Kids can swim in the seasonal pool, use the playground, play horseshoes, or bounce on the free Jumping Pillow.

Late spring through early fall is the practical RV season in the St. Louis area. Spring is the rainiest stretch due to clashing air masses and afternoon thunderstorms, which continue into summer, though gradually less frequently. St. Louis sits east of the heart of Tornado Alley and is one of the metropolitan areas most affected by severe weather, with tornadoes most likely in spring and occasionally in autumn.
Summer brings heat and humidity and is peak season for private RV parks, so book early for Cardinals homestands and holiday weekends around the Fourth of July and Labor Day. State-park camping is seasonal on the Illinois side. Horseshoe Lake State Park's campground is open May 1 to September 30, and campers can stay a maximum of 7 days in a 30-day period.
Fall usually delivers the most comfortable weather for touring, with precipitation tapering off toward the end of the season. Winter is cold and quieter; private parks generally stay open year-round for travelers passing through, while the Horseshoe Lake State Park campground closes for the season.

We had a great time renting this camper! Ray was awesome to work with. He went over everything with us when we picked it up and was always quick to respond if we had any questions. The camper was really clean and had everything we needed for the weekend. It was great to get away with the family annd enjoy some time together without having to worry about anything. We had an awesome weekend, made some great memories, and will definitely be renting from Ray again! Do yourself a favor and take your family camping for a few days too. Unplug, enjoy the time together, and make some memories. You won’t regret it!

How to book campgrounds near Black Jack
Private parks in the metro take direct reservations through their own websites or by phone. DraftKings at Casino Queen RV Park books directly through the property, and Sundermeier RV Park requires 100% of the reservation fee at time of booking, with advance internet payments made by credit card.
KOA reservations run through the KOA website, app, or by calling the campground. For RV and tent sites at the Granite City KOA, guests must give 7 days cancellation notice by 4 p.m. on the seventh day before scheduled arrival. Cabin cancellations require 14 days notice.
Illinois state-park camping at Horseshoe Lake works differently: the park office does not take reservations for individual camping, though group camping reservations are handled through the ExploreMoreIL website. Plan to arrive earlier in the day for the best chance at an open site.
What to expect on the ground
Most sites in the metro are paved or concrete with full hookups and 30/50 amp service, but they lean urban. Sundermeier offers 106 level concrete pads with 39 pull-thrus, wide paved streets, air-conditioned ADA-compliant restrooms and laundry, and true 30/50 amp electric service. Safari RV Park offers full hookups with 30/50 amp service on manicured sites.
Train and highway noise is common near the river. Sundermeier is close to urban amenities and attractions in St. Louis, though some campers note it can get noisy due to nearby highways and train tracks. At the Granite City KOA, on-the-ground campfires are not allowed due to county ordinances.
Horseshoe Lake is the primitive outlier: there are no showers or hookups at the campground, and primitive class C camping is available May 1 through September 30.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Black%20Jack%2C%20MissouriDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Black Jack, MO?
Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Black Jack. Missouri uses a Class F license for personal driving, and the state does not require a commercial driver license (CDL) for recreational vehicles used for personal trips, regardless of size. To book on RVezy you'll need to be at least 25 years old with a valid license, and you'll confirm your ID through the platform during checkout, which usually takes only a few minutes. That's it, no RV endorsement, no road test, and no extra paperwork between you and your Missouri RV trip.

Every RV rental in Black Jack booked through RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 367 or I-270 with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV, and you get to choose your coverage level at checkout (your host doesn't pick it for you). Pro tip: review the coverage tiers side by side before booking, then snap a quick walkaround video at pickup so any pre-existing scuffs are clearly documented.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Black Jack RV rental?
Booking your Black Jack RV trip is low-risk because RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy, and there's a grace period right after booking that allows a full refund when conditions are met. After that window, refund amounts depend on how far out your trip is and the specifics of your booking, which is genuinely useful during Missouri's spring storm and tornado season. The cancellation policy isn't displayed on individual listings because it's managed at the platform level. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best Class C motorhomes around St. Louis, then revisit your plans well before your trip start date if anything changes.

The host will level the rig, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before handing you the keys. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number to your phone before you leave the host's driveway, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate, it'll save valuable time if you ever need to call for help on I-70 or Highway 67.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Black Jack RV rental across state lines or into Canada?

Travel into Canada may be allowed with host approval and the right insurance documentation, so message the host before booking if that's on your itinerary. As long as you return the rig in the agreed condition, with the tanks dumped and fuel topped off per the host's terms, the deposit is released after your trip ends. Pro tip: do a thorough walkaround video at pickup and dropoff to avoid any deposit disputes, it's the single best habit for a smooth Black Jack RV trip.
