Campgrounds near Bloomfield, Missouri
Bloomfield sits in Stoddard County in southeast Missouri, within easy driving range of Lake Wappapello and the edge of the Ozark foothills. Most RV camping in the area clusters around the lake and along the highway corridors that link Bloomfield to Poplar Bluff and Dexter. Options range from small private RV parks to two established state park campgrounds on Lake Wappapello.
Hinton RV Park sits closest to town and works well as a quick overnight or a base for exploring the region. For lake access, two campgrounds at Lake Wappapello State Park, one perched on the ridge and one nestled near the lake, offer basic and electric hookup campsites, hot showers, modern restrooms and laundry facilities: Asher Creek and Park Ridge. Bullwinkles Lounge Rustic Lodge- RV Park and Hidden Oasis RV Park round out the nearby private options.
The lake itself is the main draw. The 8,400-acre lake has enough room to enjoy skiing, wakeboarding, and tubing, and shoreline campsites put boats within a short walk of the water.
Things to do near Bloomfield
Water recreation drives most trips. Lake Wappapello is popular with fishermen who cast their lines in hopes of reducing the excellent population of white bass, crappie and bluegill, as well as largemouth bass and catfish. Water enthusiasts will also enjoy swimming, boating and water skiing. The park features a swimming beach and paved boat ramps.
On land, the state park has a full trail network. On-shore recreation options include miles of hiking, backpacking, equestrian and all-terrain bicycle trails. The Lake Wappapello Trail is designated for hiking, backpacking, all-terrain bicycle and equestrian use, and shorter loops like the Asher Creek Trail and Lake View Trail suit families with younger kids.
In Bloomfield itself, expect small-town amenities: grocery stops, fuel, and a few local restaurants for restocking between lake days.

The camping season on Lake Wappapello follows a clear pattern. Asher Creek Campground is closed November 1 to March 31, but Ridge Campground is open year round. Reservations for both campgrounds are available April 1 through October 31, and open 12 months in advance. In Ridge, off-season water and shower service is reduced, so winter campers should plan accordingly.
Summer is peak season. Summer is the busy season, as the cool lake waters and daytime temperatures warm. Be prepared for temperatures topping the 80s and 90s. Weekends and holidays fill early, and for reservations, there is a required two-night minimum stay for weekends and major holidays from May 15 through Sept. 15.
Shoulder seasons are quieter. While water recreation tapers off in the fall, the forests are at their prime, with colorful hues filling the hillsides. Spring also is too cool to take a swim, but hikers appreciate the pleasant weather for tackling the trails. Winter camping is possible at Ridge, but expect freezing nights and limited services.

What to expect
Sites at Lake Wappapello are geared to standard RVs and trailers. Lake Wappapello State Park has basic and electric sites, with both 30-amp and 50-amp power. Services include reservable campsites, a dump station, showers, water and laundry. Water hydrants are scattered through the loops rather than delivered to individual pads, so plan to fill tanks on arrival.
Cell service can be inconsistent. Cell signal strength varies greatly within the park. Roads inside the park are paved but wooded, so watch clearance on taller rigs.
Pets are welcome under leash. Pets must be supervised and kept on leashes no longer than 10 feet at all times. Firewood should be sourced locally to prevent transporting pests. Private RV parks in Bloomfield tend to run smaller and quieter, with hookups but fewer on-site amenities than the state park.
