Campgrounds near Ferguson, Missouri
Ferguson sits in north St. Louis County, roughly 20 minutes from downtown St. Louis and the Gateway Arch. RV travelers use the city as a base for exploring the wider metro area, with campgrounds spread across St. Charles County to the west, the Illinois side of the Mississippi to the east, and closer-in parks along the interstates that ring the region.
Sundermeier RV Park is an award-winning five star camping resort located in historic St. Charles, Missouri, and the campground is located 20 miles west of St. Louis, which features the Gateway Arch, numerous museums, the St. Louis Zoo, and more. Across the Mississippi in Illinois, DraftKings at Casino Queen RV Park and Cahokia RV Parque put visitors within a short drive of downtown attractions, while the St. Louis NE/I-270/Granite City KOA Journey offers a chain-brand option near the northern beltway.
Safari RV Park rounds out the closer options for travelers who want to stay near the interstate corridors without heading into the city core. Together these parks cover the main approaches to Ferguson from the north, west, and east.
Things to do near Ferguson
The Gateway Arch, Forest Park, the St. Louis Zoo, and the Missouri Botanical Garden are the anchor family stops within a short drive. Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site, on the Illinois side, preserves the largest pre-Columbian earthwork complex north of Mexico and pairs well with a stay at Cahokia RV Parque.
The Katy Trail State Park, adjacent to Sundermeier RV Park, offers hiking and biking opportunities along a converted rail corridor that runs west across the state. Riverfront walks in historic St. Charles, minor-league baseball, and casino entertainment on the Illinois side round out easy day trips.
For rainy-day plans, the City Museum, the Magic House children's museum, and the Saint Louis Science Center all sit within a 30-minute drive of most area campgrounds.

Summers in the St. Louis area are hot and humid, winters are cold with occasional snow, and skies are partly cloudy year round. Peak RV season runs from late April through early October, with summer bringing frequent afternoon thunderstorms and heat indexes that regularly push past 100°F.
Spring is the rainiest stretch, with May and June among the wettest months and afternoon thunderstorms that continue into summer. Travelers should watch river forecasts in spring and early summer: the metropolitan area can be affected by floods of the Mississippi and Missouri, and low-lying riverside sites sometimes close on short notice.
Mid-April to mid-May and mid-September to mid-October are the most comfortable windows, with autumn generally the driest and steadiest of the shoulder seasons. Winter stays are possible at parks that remain open year-round, but expect hard freezes and occasional snow, and some private parks reduce services during the coldest weeks.

We had a great time renting this camper! Ray was awesome to work with. He went over everything with us when we picked it up and was always quick to respond if we had any questions. The camper was really clean and had everything we needed for the weekend. It was great to get away with the family annd enjoy some time together without having to worry about anything. We had an awesome weekend, made some great memories, and will definitely be renting from Ray again! Do yourself a favor and take your family camping for a few days too. Unplug, enjoy the time together, and make some memories. You won’t regret it!

How to book
Private parks in the Ferguson area take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Sundermeier RV Park accepts bookings through its own site, requires payment at time of reservation, and asks for a credit card that authorizes the park to bill for the full stay. KOA locations, including the St. Louis NE/I-270/Granite City KOA Journey, use the national KOA booking site and app.
For casino-adjacent stays such as DraftKings at Casino Queen RV Park, reservations run through the property's own system, and guests should confirm any big-rig length limits when booking. Cahokia RV Parque and Safari RV Park accept phone and online reservations directly.
For summer weekends, holiday periods, and event weekends tied to Cardinals home stands or Katy Trail rides, book several weeks ahead.
What to expect on arrival
Area parks skew toward full-hookup RV resorts rather than rustic tent camping. Sundermeier offers 106 level concrete pads, 39 pull thrus, wide paved streets, ADA-compliant restrooms and laundry, true 30/50 amp electric service, cable TV, free Wi-Fi, picnic tables at each site, onsite propane, and a general store, which is typical of the higher-end private parks in the region.
Noise is a common tradeoff for the convenient locations. Some campers mention that it can get a bit noisy due to nearby highways and train tracks. Sites near the rivers can also feel humid and buggy in midsummer.
Check-in windows generally run early to mid-afternoon. Most parks are pet-friendly with leash rules and sit within a short drive of grocery stores, fuel, and dump stations along the I-70, I-270, and I-55 corridors.
