Campgrounds and RV parks near Glasgow Village, MO

The St. Louis Riverfront Trail runs along the Mississippi adjacent to Glasgow Village, providing a paved multi-use path between the Gateway Arch area and the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge. Cyclists and walkers can cross the historic Chain of Rocks Bridge into Illinois on foot. Downtown St. Louis attractions are about 12 miles south of the KOA base, including Gateway Arch National Park, Busch Stadium, the St. Louis Zoo, and the Missouri Botanical Garden. The Cahokia Mounds and Lewis and Clark state historic sites are a short drive east into Illinois. At Horseshoe Lake State Park, visitors can fish, boat, hike, and picnic when the park is open, and waterfowl hunting programs run in season from designated public blinds. Cahokia RV Parque offers a paid shuttle to downtown attractions for guests who prefer not to drive into the city.

The St. Louis metro has a humid continental climate with hot, muggy summers and cold winters. Spring and fall are the most comfortable RV seasons, with the periods from mid-April to mid-May and mid-September to mid-October standing out as the best windows, and autumn generally drier and with fewer temperature swings than spring. Spring brings the most rain and frequent thunderstorms, and May averages roughly 12 to 13 rainy days, so campers should expect wet ground and occasional severe weather. Summer highs typically sit in the upper 80s Fahrenheit, with July averaging near 90 for the daily high and low 70s at night, and afternoon thunderstorms are common through July and August. Full hookups with 50-amp service are useful for running air conditioning during heat waves. Winters are cold enough that St. Louis normally has about 19 days a year that never rise above freezing, with the coldest nights typically dropping near 0 Fahrenheit. Most private RV parks in the area stay open year-round, while Horseshoe Lake State Park's campground normally operates from May 1 through September 30 and has been closed for causeway work.

Parks on the Illinois side of the river are convenient but industrial in character. The Granite City KOA sits near I-270 in a working-industrial pocket of Granite City, and reviewers note road and rail noise along with sites that can be tight for larger rigs. Full hookups with mostly 50-amp service (some 30-amp), pull-through sites, a seasonal pool, laundry, a dog park, and a jumping pillow are on site. Cahokia RV Parque offers gravel sites with concrete pads, 30 and 50-amp full hookups, a seasonal pool, laundry, propane, an on-site Sawmill BBQ restaurant, and a paid shuttle to downtown attractions. Horseshoe Lake State Park, when open, is primitive: pit toilets, a dump station, water hydrants, picnic tables, and fire rings, with no showers or hookups, and a seven-day maximum stay in any 30-day period. Verify current park alerts before arrival, as causeway installation work has closed the campground and access road.
