Campgrounds near Hazelwood
Hazelwood sits in northern St. Louis County, Missouri, just off I-270 and minutes from Lambert International Airport. Its position at the northwest edge of the St. Louis metro makes it a practical base for RV travelers who want quick access to the Gateway Arch, the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers, and the Metro East side of Illinois.
Options in the immediate area lean urban and full-hookup rather than backcountry. Sundermeier RV Park in nearby St. Charles offers concrete pads and full hookups adjacent to the Katy Trail, while St. Louis NE/I-270/Granite City KOA Journey sits just across the river with easy interstate access. DraftKings at Casino Queen RV Park and Cahokia RV Parque both put campers within a short drive of downtown St. Louis on the Illinois bank.
For a more traditional state-park stay, Pere Marquette State Park lies upriver in Grafton, Illinois, with wooded electric sites, cabins, and river-bluff hiking.
Things to do near Hazelwood
The Gateway Arch, Forest Park (home to the St. Louis Zoo, Art Museum, and Science Center), and Busch Stadium anchor most itineraries. Families often pair a downtown day with the City Museum and a Mississippi riverboat cruise. Guests staying at Cahokia RV Parque and DraftKings at Casino Queen RV Park can reach downtown quickly via shuttle or the Metro light rail.
Outdoor time is easy to add. The Katy Trail runs right past Sundermeier RV Park in St. Charles, giving cyclists paved miles along the Missouri River. Pere Marquette State Park offers bluff-top overlooks of the Illinois River, roughly 20 miles of equestrian trails, and the paved Sam Vadalabene Bike Trail connecting to Alton.

The St. Louis metro sits within the broader severe-weather corridor of the central U.S., and thunderstorms and tornado risk peak in spring.

Fall delivers cooler nights, lower humidity, and peak color at Pere Marquette, which is known for its fall foliage. Winter is cold with occasional snow and ice; some state-park campground services are reduced, though bald-eagle viewing along the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers near Pere Marquette runs from late December through February.

We had a great time renting this camper! Ray was awesome to work with. He went over everything with us when we picked it up and was always quick to respond if we had any questions. The camper was really clean and had everything we needed for the weekend. It was great to get away with the family annd enjoy some time together without having to worry about anything. We had an awesome weekend, made some great memories, and will definitely be renting from Ray again! Do yourself a favor and take your family camping for a few days too. Unplug, enjoy the time together, and make some memories. You won’t regret it!

DraftKings at Casino Queen RV Park books online through Camplife, with a three-day cancellation window before arrival. Cahokia RV Parque takes reservations through its own website. The St. Louis NE/I-270/Granite City KOA Journey is booked through KOA.com or the KOA app.
Pere Marquette State Park in Illinois uses the ExploreMoreIL reservation system. Reservations must be made at least three days before arrival and can be booked up to 180 days in advance. Class A electric sites 2-30 are reservable May through October; walk-up and off-season options are more limited.
What to expect near Hazelwood
Most parks near Hazelwood are urban or suburban, with paved or gravel pads, full hookups, and 30/50-amp service. Sundermeier offers level concrete pads, pull-throughs, and cable, with the tradeoff of nearby interstate, rail, and Lambert flight-path noise. DraftKings at Casino Queen sits right next to active rail lines, which is worth planning around for light sleepers.
Cahokia RV Parque has shaded and open gravel sites with laundry and other basic amenities. Pere Marquette State Park is more rustic: Class A sites have electric hookups only, with a dump station, drinking water, shower building, flush toilets, and two rent-a-cabins that sleep up to six on a full bed and bunk beds.
Firewood rules vary by park. At Pere Marquette, firewood from outside Jersey County, Illinois is not permitted, so plan to buy on site.

July and August are hot and humid with highs near 90 degrees Fahrenheit, so air conditioning becomes essential. If you are chasing Gateway Arch fireworks on July 4th or the Great Forest Park Balloon Race in September, book your RV at least 90 days out, those weekends fill quickly.
weather.gov/lsx/I have never rented an RV before. Will I really be okay?
You have got this, first time renting an RV in Hazelwood is easier than most people expect. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup that covers driving tips, the propane and water systems, slide-outs, leveling, and how to hook up at a campground. You can message your host any time before, during, or after the trip, and RVezy support is available to help. For your first drive, consider a smaller Class C motorhome or a campervan rental Hazelwood owners offer, they handle a lot like a big van. Do a slow practice loop in the neighborhood before merging onto I-270, or choose a delivery option so the host can set everything up for you.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002007754-For-rentersWhat happens if something breaks down on my Hazelwood RV trip?
You are covered. Yes, interstate road trips are one of the best parts of renting from Hazelwood, you are at the crossroads of I-70, I-55, I-44, and I-64. Most hosts welcome travel throughout the lower 48, with popular routes including Hazelwood to Nashville (about 310 miles southeast), Hazelwood to Chicago (about 300 miles northeast), and the classic Route 66 run from Hazelwood through Eureka and on to Oklahoma. Canada travel may be allowed depending on the specific host and insurance, message them through the listing before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend across that border. Message the host with your full route, they often share fuel and campground tips from their own trips.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Hazelwood RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, but it is easy to plan for. Expect a Class B campervan to get 18 to 22 miles per gallon, a Class C around 8 to 12 MPG, and a Class A roughly 6 to 10 MPG. Missouri historically has some of the lower average gas prices in the country, and Hazelwood has plenty of big-rig-friendly stations along North Lindbergh Boulevard and at the Pilot and Love's near I-270. A typical 500-mile weekend in a Class C burns about 50 gallons. Download the GasBuddy app and compare prices on the Illinois and Missouri sides of the river, prices can swing several cents per gallon depending on the day.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Hazelwood?
Plan ahead and you will get exactly the site you want. For Missouri State Parks (like Babler Memorial State Park, about 30 minutes west of Hazelwood), you can reserve up to 12 months in advance through icampmo1.usedirect.com or by calling 877-422-6766, and popular holiday weekends fill the moment the window opens. Private parks like 370 Lakeside and the St. Louis West KOA typically book 2 to 4 months out for summer weekends. Same-day reservations are also accepted at many Missouri State Parks for spontaneous trips. Midweek nights almost always have openings, so a Tuesday-to-Thursday Hazelwood escape is the easiest reservation you will make.
icampmo1.usedirect.com/MoStateParksWeb/What are local driving conditions like around Hazelwood?
Driving an RV around Hazelwood is very manageable once you know the lay of the land. I-270 (the metro beltway) and I-70 are your main arteries, both wide and RV-friendly, with rush hour typically 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Avoid lower-clearance routes in downtown St. Louis and skip narrow historic blocks in Soulard or the Central West End in a big rig. Spring brings strong thunderstorms and the occasional tornado warning, so check the forecast each morning and remember that overpasses are not safe shelter. Head north on Highway 367 to escape city traffic quickly, you will be at the Mississippi River in about 15 minutes.

mostateparks.com/activity/campingWhat is inside a typical Hazelwood RV rental?
You will be surprised how much is packed into a modern RV. Most Hazelwood listings on RVezy include a queen or king bed, convertible dinette or bunk beds, a kitchen with a stove, refrigerator, microwave, and sink, a wet or dry bathroom with hot shower, roof-top air conditioning, a furnace, and a TV (often with a streaming-ready setup). Class C motorhomes and Class A coaches add seat-belted captain's chairs, generators for off-grid power, and outdoor speakers. Hosts list exact sleeps counts and amenities right on the listing, so you can filter by what matters most. Check the listing photos for the kitchen layout, hosts who include a starter kit (coffee maker, pots, plates) save you a shopping run on day one.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Hazelwood%2C%20MissouriHow do pickup, drop-off, and add-ons work for Hazelwood rentals?
Pickup and drop-off are simple and flexible. Most Hazelwood hosts offer in-person pickup at their home or shop (often near I-270, Lindbergh Boulevard, or St. Charles Rock Road) with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough so you leave confident. Popular add-ons listed by Hazelwood hosts include camp chairs and tables, bike racks, generators, kitchen kits, linen and bedding packages, propane top-offs, and waste-tank cleaning service, each priced individually so you only pay for what you want. Many hosts also offer delivery (a per-mile or flat fee) right to your campground. Ask about a late return option at booking, hosts often grant a few extra hours free if no one is booked right after you.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Hazelwood%2C%20MissouriHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment on RVezy is straightforward and secure: you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. A pre-authorization security deposit is placed on your card before pickup and released after the trip, assuming the RV comes back in the condition it left. Deposit amounts in Hazelwood typically range from $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV's size and value, and the exact amount is shown on the listing before you book. To avoid any issues, do a quick walkaround video with your host at pickup and drop-off. Refill the propane and fresh water and dump the tanks before return, that one habit avoids most common deposit fees.
