Winter, from late November to early March, is cold, with an average January temperature close to freezing. Snowfall averages a little over 18 inches per winter season, and snowfall of an inch or less occurs on 5 to 10 days in most years. Some private parks stay open with limited services, and freezing overnight lows make freshwater and sewer hookup planning a priority. Spring and early summer are the busiest travel windows and also the wettest. The spring months of March through May are normally the wettest, with normal total rainfall of just under 10.5 inches. St. Louis lies east of the heart of Tornado Alley and is one of the metropolitan areas most affected by this phenomenon, with tornadoes more likely in spring and sometimes in autumn. Summer brings heat, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms. Thunderstorms normally occur on 40 to 50 days per year, and a few each year are severe, producing large hail and damaging winds. Fall is the most stable stretch, with cooler nights and lighter rainfall through October.

Sites near Lemay are generally paved or gravel with 30/50-amp service, water, and sewer. Urban and riverside parks tend toward tighter spacing than rural options, but most accommodate Class A rigs and larger fifth wheels. Wi-Fi and cable are common; verify signal strength if working remotely. River-level fluctuations along the Mississippi and Meramec occasionally close low-lying loops in spring and early summer. Parks generally post advisories in advance and offer relocation to higher sites when possible. Highway access is straightforward via I-55, I-255, and I-270, but downtown St. Louis streets and older bridges have low clearances in spots. Route large rigs using truck-specific GPS. Grocery, propane, and dump-station services are widely available across the south county and Metro East corridors.
