Campgrounds near Noel, Missouri
Noel sits in the southwest corner of Missouri along the Elk River, near the Arkansas and Oklahoma borders. The town is a long-running Ozark float-trip destination, with a cluster of private riverfront campgrounds and outfitters concentrated between Noel, Ginger Blue, and Pineville. Most sites within a short drive offer RV hookups, tent camping, and access to the river for kayaking, canoeing, tubing, and rafting.
River Ranch RV Park and Campground, Elk River Floats and Kozy Kamp, Big Elk Camp and Canoe Rental, and Gracie's Canoe Camp all operate on or near the Elk River and combine campsites with rental fleets and shuttle service. The Elk here runs through a shaded, bluff-lined corridor along Highways 59 and 90, with shallow swimming areas and gravel bars.
For equestrian travelers, Huckleberry Stables sits inside Huckleberry Ridge State Forest near Pineville, with cabin and RV options and direct trail access. Public land is limited immediately around town, so most RV renters base at a private riverfront campground and day-trip to nearby state parks and forests.
Things to do near Noel
Float trips define the area. Outfitters on the Elk River rent rafts, kayaks, canoes, and tubes, with shuttles included and trip lengths ranging from a half-day six-mile run to a twelve-mile full-day route. The river is rated Class I to Class II, which suits first-time paddlers and families. Elk River Floats and Kozy Kamp, Big Elk Camp and Canoe Rental, Gracie's Canoe Camp, and River Ranch RV Park and Campground all sit on the water.
Off the river, the Elk is known for smallmouth bass fishing, and its gravel bars are used for swimming and shore picnics. Huckleberry Stables opens onto the trail system in Huckleberry Ridge State Forest for horseback riders bringing their own horses. Big Sugar Creek State Park and Roaring River State Park are within easy driving distance for hiking and trout fishing.

The Elk River float season runs from spring through early fall, with peak visitation from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Summer weekends draw large crowds from Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Kansas, and riverside campgrounds routinely book out weeks ahead. Weekdays in June and August are noticeably quieter than Saturdays in July.
Spring brings the highest and coldest water. Late spring is the wettest part of the year, and heavy rain can push the Elk into unsafe float levels, occasionally causing outfitters to pause trips. Water temperatures are more comfortable from mid-June onward. Fall offers warm days, cool nights, and light river traffic through September, with color peaking in mid to late October.
Winter is the off-season. Many outfitters close their float operations from late fall through early spring, though some private campgrounds and Huckleberry Stables remain open year-round for RV and cabin stays. Freezing nights are common from December into February.
Booking and reservations
The campgrounds nearest Noel are privately owned, so reservations go directly through each operator rather than a central federal or state system like Recreation.gov or Missouri State Parks. River Ranch RV Park and Campground, Elk River Floats and Kozy Kamp, Big Elk Camp and Canoe Rental, Gracie's Canoe Camp, and Huckleberry Stables each handle their own booking by website or phone.
For summer weekends, book as early as possible. Holiday weekends around Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day fill first, often several weeks or months in advance. Float trip rentals are usually booked separately from the campsite and typically include shuttle service, day-pass entry, and parking. Confirm the outfitter's minimum age rules and life-jacket policy for children before arrival.
What to expect on the ground
Sites along the Elk River tend to be gravel or grass, with a mix of full-hookup RV pads, electric-only sites, and primitive tent areas. Shade varies by campground; some sit on open gravel-bar peninsulas, while others are set back under mature trees. Cell service is spotty in the river bottoms and can drop entirely inside Huckleberry Ridge State Forest.
The river scene is family-oriented but social, especially on summer weekends, with music, coolers, and group floats common. Glass containers are prohibited on the water by outfitters. Children are generally required to wear life jackets at all times on the river, and some outfitters restrict young children from canoes or set minimum-size rules.
Summer heat indices routinely climb past 100 degrees Fahrenheit, so RV renters should confirm working air conditioning, plan for shade at the site, and watch water levels after heavy rain, when the Elk can rise quickly.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Noel, MO
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Noel, MO?
An RV rental in Noel, MO is one of the most affordable ways to experience the Ozarks, with most travel trailers starting around $90 to $150 per night, campervans running $125 to $200, and larger Class C motorhomes typically $175 to $275 per night. Because Noel is a small float-trip town on the Elk River, you'll find lower nightly rates than you'd see in big metro areas like St. Louis or Kansas City. For a cheap RV rental in Noel, book midweek or shoulder season (April or September), and use RVezy's price filter to sort by budget. Pro tip: many hosts offer multi-night discounts for weeklong floats, so a 5 to 7 night stay often gets you the best per-night value.
visitmo.com/places-to-stay/camping-and-cabinsDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Noel, Missouri?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Noel, Missouri. The state of Missouri does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal-use motorhomes, travel trailers, or campervans, no matter the size, as long as you're driving for recreation and not commercial purposes. You'll need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and your ID is verified through the platform during checkout. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Pick up an International Driving Permit (usually under $20 from your home auto association) before your trip. That's it, you're ready to roll into the Ozarks.

Every RV rental in Noel booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head out along Highway 59 and the Elk River with real peace of mind. You choose your protection level at checkout (not the host), so you can match coverage to your budget and travel style. The plan helps cover damage to the RV during your trip, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your booking. For first-time renters, it is the kind of safety net that makes floating the river feel low-stress and fun.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Noel RV trip plans change?
You can book your Noel RV trip with confidence. RVezy applies a standard cancellation policy to every reservation, managed by RVezy rather than the individual host, so the rules are consistent across every listing. Severe weather and natural disasters are also reviewed by the RVezy team, which matters in tornado-prone southwest Missouri where the Elk River can rise after heavy spring storms. If your dates change, message your host first to see if they can shift the reservation, then contact RVezy support. Review the full policy before booking so you know exactly what to expect.

Pro tip: bring a long lead and a quick-dry towel, pack extra fresh water for hot July days, and ask your host about any breed or size restrictions in your booking message before you confirm.
mostateparks.com/page/55043/pets-state-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Noel?

Many local hosts will tow or drive the rig straight to your campsite at Shady Beach Campground, Wayside, Trestle Park, or Eagles Nest, then level it, hook up water and electric, and walk you through every system before they leave. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see hosts who offer this service. Delivery fees usually run $2 to $4 per mile from the host's location, with some hosts including free delivery within a set radius of Noel. It's the closest thing to glamping you'll find on the Elk River.

modot.org/What are the best campgrounds near Noel for RV camping?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Noel, since the town is built around Elk River float-trip campgrounds. Shady Beach Campground has 23 marked RV sites with 30 and 50-amp water and electric hookups right on the river. Wayside Campground (part of Elk River Floats) offers 30-amp electric and water pull-through sites on a gravel-bar peninsula. Eagles Nest Camp & Canoe in nearby Ginger Blue has 30-amp full hookup sites on 40 shaded acres. River Ranch Resort and Two Sons Floats round out the list with riverfront RV spots. Pro tip: many of these campgrounds require a float trip booking to reserve a summer weekend site, so book floats and campsites together.
mostateparks.com/park/big-sugar-creek-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for a Noel RV trip?
The sweet spot for a Noel RV trip is late April through early October, when the Elk River is warm enough for floating and the Ozark hills are lush and green. Summer highs in Noel typically run 87 to 92°F in July and August with high humidity, while May and September are cooler (75 to 82°F) and far less crowded, making them the smart-money choice. Spring (March to May) brings wildflowers and the lowest nightly RV rates, though watch the forecast for severe thunderstorms. Winter is quiet and chilly (30s to 50s°F), and Noel's famous Christmas City post office mail-stamp tradition runs all December, a quirky reason to visit off-season.
weather.gov/sgf/I've never rented an RV before. Will I know how to use it?
You'll be fine, first time renting an RV in Noel is genuinely one of the easiest ways to start, because the town is built for laid-back river travel rather than long road trips. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water and waste tanks, propane, awning, and AC. You can also message your host through the platform anytime during your trip if anything feels confusing. Most renters tell us the systems clicked within an hour. Pro tip: book a host who offers delivery in Noel so the RV is already set up at your campground when you arrive, no backing-in stress, no hookup guesswork.
visitmo.com/things-to-do/outdoors/campingWhat happens if I get a flat tire or breakdown on the way to Noel?
You're covered, every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection package, so a flat tire, dead battery, lockout, or mechanical issue on Highway 59 or I-44 is just a phone call away. The roadside team can dispatch help to anywhere between Joplin, Bentonville, and Noel itself, including the winding two-lane Ozark roads. Your host is also reachable directly through the RVezy app if you have questions about the rig. Pro tip: snap photos of the dashboard, tire pressure, and any warning lights before you leave the host's driveway, that quick five-minute habit makes any roadside call faster and smoother.
modot.org/motorist-assistWhat road trips can I take from Noel in my motorhome rental?
A motorhome rental in Noel puts you at the crossroads of three states, perfect for a multi-stop Ozarks RV road trip from Noel. Popular drives include south to Bentonville, AR and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art (about 45 miles), west to Grand Lake o' the Cherokees in Oklahoma (about 50 miles), east to Branson and Table Rock Lake (about 110 miles), and north to Roaring River State Park (about 35 miles) for trout fishing. Trips between Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Kansas are easy, and travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. Confirm any out-of-state plans with your host through the RVezy message thread before booking.
mostateparks.com/park/roaring-river-state-parkHow much should I budget for fuel on a Noel RV trip?
Fuel is usually one of the smaller line items on a Noel RV trip because most renters park at one Elk River campground and stay put. Expect 8 to 10 mpg for a Class C motorhome, 10 to 14 mpg for a campervan, and 12 to 18 mpg for a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer. Missouri gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, often $2.85 to $3.30 per gallon in McDonald County. For a 250-mile round trip from Kansas City or Tulsa to Noel, budget roughly $80 to $130 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Anderson or Pineville before heading deeper into the hills, gas stations thin out fast along the Elk River.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground in Noel?
Book early. Noel's Elk River campgrounds are some of the busiest in the Ozarks from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and most fill up 4 to 8 weeks out for summer weekends. Shady Beach, River Ranch Resort, Eagles Nest, and Wayside all take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, since they are privately owned rather than booked through Recreation.gov. Holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day) often sell out 2 to 3 months ahead and may require a float trip booking to lock in the site. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Thursday) are far easier to book and usually 20 to 30 percent cheaper.
mostateparks.com/things-to-do/campingWhat are the roads like driving an RV into Noel?
The drive into Noel is scenic and very RV-friendly once you know what to expect. Most renters arrive via Highway 59 from Anderson or up from Bentonville, AR, a well-paved two-lane road with gentle Ozark curves and a few rolling grades. Inside town, Main Street passes under the famous Noel Bluffs, dramatic limestone overhangs that drop low over the road, so watch your RV height (anything over 13'6" should detour around via Highway 90). Cell service can drop in the river valleys, so download offline maps before you leave Joplin or XNA airport. Pro tip: avoid Sunday-afternoon float-trip traffic on Highway 59 between 3 and 6 pm in July.
modot.org/southwest-districtWhat amenities will I find at Noel campgrounds?

You'll also find hot showers, flush restrooms, dump stations, potable water fill stations, firewood sales, snack bars, and gravel-bar swim beaches just steps from your site. Wi-Fi is hit-or-miss, available at some Shady Beach sites but spotty elsewhere in the river valley. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank before pulling in, and plan to dump on your way out, the dump stations in Noel can have a short line on Sunday mornings after busy summer weekends.

visitmo.com/things-to-do/outdoors/campingHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment on RVezy is simple and secure: you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host. Your booking total is shown upfront and typically includes the nightly rate, RVezy service fee, your chosen protection package, and any add-ons. A separate refundable security deposit is held on your card before your trip and released after drop-off once the host confirms the RV is returned in good condition. To keep things smooth, take time-stamped photos of the RV inside and out at pickup and drop-off, and keep all communication and change requests inside the RVezy app so you have a clear record.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park an RV in Noel besides campgrounds?
While Noel is small (population about 2,000), it's surrounded by great RV-friendly stops. Most overnight parking happens at the riverfront campgrounds, but day-trippers can park along Main Street to visit the historic Noel Post Office for its world-famous holiday postmark, or explore Bluff Dwellers Cave just a few miles south on Highway 59. For a quiet alternative, Big Sugar Creek State Park sits 10 miles east and offers day-use parking and hiking trails, though it has no RV hookups. Overnight parking at Walmart or truck stops isn't really an option this far into the Ozarks. Pro tip: for the easiest experience, book a host on RVezy with delivery, you'll never have to find RV parking yourself.
