Campgrounds and RV parks near Normandy, MO

Normandy sits close to the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus and is a short drive from the Missouri Botanical Garden, Forest Park (home of the St. Louis Zoo, Art Museum, and Science Center), and the Gateway Arch riverfront downtown. Many of the city's marquee attractions in Forest Park are free, which makes a metro base practical for families. West of the city, Six Flags St. Louis in Eureka offers a full theme park with roller coasters plus the Hurricane Harbor water park next door. Baseball fans can catch Cardinals games at Busch Stadium, and Blues hockey plays at the Enterprise Center. Cyclists staying in St. Charles can access the Katy Trail directly. A city park with playground and basketball court is across the street from Sundermeier, and the Katy Trail State Park is adjacent for hiking and biking, with historic downtown St. Charles a short ride away.

The St. Louis area has a four-season humid continental climate. Summer air originating from the Gulf tends to dominate the area, producing warm and humid conditions; temperatures of 90 degrees or higher occur on about 35 to 40 days per year, and 100 degree days are expected on no more than five days per year. Shaded sites, strong A/C, and full hookups matter from June through August. This is also peak booking season for metro-area RV parks, especially on Cardinals home-game weekends and around July 4 fireworks on the riverfront. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel. The spring months of March through May are normally the wettest, with normal total rainfall of just under 10.5 inches, and severe thunderstorms and occasional tornadoes are most common in this window. Autumn tends to be drier and more settled. Winters are cold but manageable. Most metro RV parks stay open year-round, though water spigots can be shut off during hard freezes. Snowfall has averaged a little over 18 inches per winter season, so travelers should watch bridge and I-270 conditions when systems move through.

Expect an urban camping experience rather than a wilderness one. Sites at parks like DraftKings at Casino Queen RV Park, Cahokia RV Parque, and the St. Louis NE/I-270/Granite City KOA Journey are close to interstates, rail lines, or the Mississippi levee, meaning quick access to downtown but some ambient traffic noise. Sites commonly include 50-amp full hookups with room for larger rigs, with propane and firewood typically available on site. Sundermeier RV Park sits near St. Charles and can get noisy due to nearby highways and train tracks, but the pads are level concrete and the location is convenient. Big-rig maneuvering is generally easy at metro parks, though low-clearance bridges exist on older city routes, so travelers should stick to marked truck routes when approaching camp.
