Campgrounds near Oakland, Missouri
Oakland is a small municipality in west St. Louis County, Missouri, tucked between Crestwood and Kirkwood just south of Interstate 44. It sits inside the St. Louis metro area, giving RV travelers quick highway access to downtown attractions, the Meramec River corridor, and the Illinois side of the region across the Mississippi.
RV options cluster in two directions. On the Missouri side, Covered Bridge RV Park and Storage in Fenton sits southwest of Oakland along the Meramec, and Sundermeier RV Park in St. Charles lies about 20 miles northwest. Across the Mississippi, Belleville Mobile Home and RV Estates, Cahokia RV Parque, and DraftKings at Casino Queen RV Park serve travelers on the Illinois side, minutes from the Gateway Arch.
Because Oakland lies inside a major metro, the humid continental climate brings hot summers, cold winters, and precipitation spread through the year, and most parks operate year-round with sites geared to travelers using them as a base.
Things to do near Oakland
Gateway Arch National Park anchors most trip plans, with tram rides to the top, the museum beneath the arch, and riverboat cruises on the Mississippi. Forest Park, one of the largest urban parks in the country, holds the Saint Louis Zoo, the Missouri History Museum, and the Saint Louis Art Museum, all free to enter.
Families often build a day around the City Museum downtown and a Cardinals game at Busch Stadium in season. Closer to Oakland, Grant's Trail and Powder Valley Nature Center offer easy walking and biking.
For a change of pace, Route 66 State Park in nearby Eureka follows the historic highway alignment, and the Meramec River corridor west of town has canoe liveries, hiking, and the show caves at Meramec Caverns.

The climate around St. Louis is continental, with cold winters, hot summers, and frequent thunderstorms. Spring is the wettest stretch, with strong storms and occasional tornado watches rolling through the metro from March into May, so RV travelers should monitor weather radios and pick sites with solid drainage. The region sits east of the heart of Tornado Alley and is one of the metropolitan areas most affected by severe weather.
Summer is peak season for family travel, but heat and humidity build quickly, with regular stretches of 90-plus days and occasional pushes above 100 F. Sites with shade and 50-amp service for air conditioning are worth booking early. Weekends around Cardinals home stands and Fair St. Louis in early July fill fastest.
Fall brings the most comfortable RV weather, with warm days, cool nights, and lower rain totals through October. Winter operations vary: most metro-area RV parks stay open, but water hookups may be seasonal, and freezing nights are common from December through February.

We had a great time renting this camper! Ray was awesome to work with. He went over everything with us when we picked it up and was always quick to respond if we had any questions. The camper was really clean and had everything we needed for the weekend. It was great to get away with the family annd enjoy some time together without having to worry about anything. We had an awesome weekend, made some great memories, and will definitely be renting from Ray again! Do yourself a favor and take your family camping for a few days too. Unplug, enjoy the time together, and make some memories. You won’t regret it!

How to book
The campgrounds serving Oakland are all privately operated, so reservations go directly through each park rather than a central agency. Covered Bridge RV Park and Storage in Fenton and Sundermeier RV Park in St. Charles take bookings by phone or through their own websites, and Sundermeier requires full payment at the time of reservation. Belleville Mobile Home and RV Estates also books direct.
Cahokia RV Parque handles reservations through its own online system and by phone, and DraftKings at Casino Queen RV Park ties RV stays to the casino resort reservation line. Missouri state parks with camping in the wider region, such as those along the Meramec, are reserved through the Missouri State Parks site.
For summer weekends, holidays, and Cardinals home stands, book several weeks ahead. Big-rig sites and full-hookup pull-throughs are the first to sell out.
What to expect on arrival
Metro-area RV parks near Oakland lean urban rather than scenic. Expect level gravel, concrete, or paved sites, full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, Wi-Fi of varying speed, and quick access to interstates. Trees and shade vary by park, so ask when booking if a shaded site matters.
Highway noise is a factor at parks close to I-64, I-55, and I-255. Check-in windows are usually early afternoon, with self-check-in available after hours at several locations. Rigs over 40 feet should confirm site length in advance, particularly at older properties.
Drinking water is safe from municipal supplies. Trash and dump-station access is standard, but not every site has a sewer connection, so confirm hookup type when reserving. Pets are generally welcome on leash, with breed and size limits at some parks.
