Campgrounds near Purdy, Missouri
Purdy sits in Barry County in the southwest Ozark hills of Missouri, within easy reach of Table Rock Lake, the Mark Twain National Forest, and the region's best-known trout waters. The town works well as a base for RV travelers who want quiet farm-country evenings and quick access to state park recreation without the crowds of Branson.
The closest RV options include Oak Hill Court and RV Park and Hwy 60 RV Park, both convenient for travelers passing through on Highway 60 or staying near town. For a park-based trip, Campground 2 - Roaring River State Park and Campground 3 - Roaring River State Park sit inside Roaring River State Park, a public recreation area covering 4,294 acres eight miles south of Cassville in Barry County. Beagle Bay RV Haven Campground rounds out the area with additional private sites.
Roaring River is one of Missouri's most popular state parks, so booking early is the norm from spring through fall.
Things to do near Purdy
Trout fishing is the headline activity. The state park offers trout fishing on the Roaring River, hiking on seven different trails, and the seasonally open Ozark Chinquapin Nature Center. Trout tags and fishing permits are required.
Beyond the river, families can tour the fish hatchery, swim at the park pool, and hike shaded Ozark ravines on more than 10 miles of trails. The park store stocks fishing tackle, camping supplies, and groceries, and picnic areas and a playground round out the day-use options.
Day trips reach Table Rock Lake for boating and swimming, Eureka Springs, Arkansas for a historic downtown, and Branson for shows and attractions.

Camping in the Purdy area is a spring-through-fall affair. Roaring River State Park has three campgrounds to choose from within the park, and reservations can be made from late February to late October. Campground 1 stays open year-round, while Campgrounds 2 and 3 are closed November through February 24.
The March 1 trout opener at Roaring River is one of the busiest days of the year at the park, and weekends from opening day through Memorial Day fill quickly. Summer brings hot, humid weather and steady family bookings, and holiday weekends often sell out weeks in advance. Fall is the sweet spot for cooler temperatures, lower humidity, and Ozark color, typically peaking in late October.
Winter access is limited but not closed. The accessible showerhouse with restrooms remains open year-round in Campground 1, and water can be accessed year-round at several frost-free spigots in that loop, while Campgrounds 2 and 3 water service is on-season only.
How to book campgrounds near Purdy
State park sites are booked through the Missouri State Parks reservation system. Campers can reserve a Missouri State Parks campsite up to 12 months in advance, expanding from the previous six-month window. Reservations can also be made by phone at 877-422-6766 or online through the park system, and can be booked up to 7 p.m. the day before arrival.
For Campground 2 and Campground 3 at Roaring River, plan ahead for opening weekend, holiday weekends, and any Saturday from April through September. Reservable sites may be available on a walk-up basis if not already booked; check with park staff or follow the directions on the posted card or signs.
Oak Hill Court and RV Park, Hwy 60 RV Park, and Beagle Bay RV Haven Campground are private and book directly with the operator.
What to expect
Roaring River sites sit in a deep, narrow Ozark valley with a mix of basic, electric, and sewer/electric/water campsites spread throughout three campgrounds. Shade varies by loop, and lower-loop sites along the river fill first. A dump station, showers, water, and laundry are available on-season.
Expect limited connectivity inside the park. Free Wi-Fi is centrally located at the Emory Melton Inn and Conference Center, while the rest of the park is designed as an unplugged, screen-free retreat.
Pets are welcome on leash (no longer than 10 feet), quiet hours are enforced, and camping is limited to any 15 days within a 30-consecutive-day period at any one park or historic site. Note that park staff use a pyrotechnic device between 8 and 10 a.m. daily near Campground 3 and the hatchery to deter black vultures.
