Camping near Sullivan, Missouri
Sullivan sits along Interstate 44 in Franklin County, roughly 60 miles southwest of St. Louis, and functions as the closest service town for Meramec State Park and the surrounding Meramec River valley. The town gives RV travelers easy freeway access, fuel and grocery stops, and a short drive to several distinct camping options in the Ozark foothills.
The main draw is the Meramec River corridor. Meramec State Park spans roughly 6,900 acres along the river and offers a modern campground with basic, electric, electric/water, and full-hookup sites, plus cabins, a motel, and group tent areas. Nearby private options include Meramec Caverns Natural Campground and Meramec Campground in Stanton, Blue Spring Ranch in Bourbon, and Ozark Outdoors-Riverfront Resort in Leasburg. RV Self Park provides a straightforward option closer to town.
Most campgrounds in the area combine river access with cave country attractions, making Sullivan a practical basecamp for families mixing float trips, hiking, and cavern tours.
Things to do around Sullivan
Float trips define summer here. Canoes, kayaks, rafts, and tubes launch from private outfitters and state park liveries onto the Meramec River, a Class I stream suitable for beginners and families. Ozark Outdoors-Riverfront Resort also provides access to the Huzzah and Courtois Rivers, giving groups multiple float lengths to choose from.
Caves are the other headline. Meramec State Park runs guided lantern tours of Fisher Cave, and Meramec Caverns in Stanton offers walking tours of a large commercial cave system plus additional attractions on site. Onondaga Cave State Park near Leasburg is a short drive south.
On land, Meramec State Park has more than 13 miles of hiking trails, a designated swim beach, and a visitor center. Blue Spring Ranch adds horseback trail rides, a pool, and other on-site recreation.

Spring brings the wettest stretch of the year, with April and May typically the peak precipitation months and rivers running high. Missouri springs also carry the state's highest tornado risk, so RV travelers should monitor forecasts and know their campground's shelter locations. Some low-lying riverside sites may be affected during rainy periods.
Summer is peak season. Warm, humid weather drives heavy float-trip demand from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and state park sites in particular fill quickly on weekends. Reserving early is essential for holiday weekends and Saturday nights. Weekday arrivals see more openings.
Fall offers the best balance for many RV travelers: cooler days, fewer crowds after Labor Day, and colorful hardwood forests through October. Winter camping is possible at year-round state park sites, but water and showers at Missouri state parks generally operate April 1 through October 31, and several private campgrounds in the area close for the season.
How to book near Sullivan
Meramec State Park uses the Missouri State Parks reservation system. Sites can be reserved up to 12 months in advance online through icampmo.com, or by phone at 877-422-6766. Same-day reservations are accepted online or by phone up until 7 p.m. the day of arrival, and reservable sites not booked in advance may be available walk-up, subject to availability.
Private campgrounds around Sullivan take direct reservations through their own websites or by phone. Blue Spring Ranch, Ozark Outdoors-Riverfront Resort, Meramec Campground, and Meramec Caverns Natural Campground all handle bookings directly with the operator. For summer weekends, book several months out; float trip equipment and shuttles should be reserved at the same time as the campsite.
Camping at Missouri state parks is limited to any 15 days within any 30-consecutive-day period at a single park.
What to expect in Sullivan
Terrain is Ozark foothills: forested limestone hills, bluffs, and a spring-fed river. Site pads at Meramec State Park are generally shaded and level, but the park entrance road is narrow with a noticeable grade, and the campground sits several minutes past the visitor center. Big-rig drivers should plan turn-in timing accordingly.
Hookup mix varies. State park sites range from basic to full hookup, while private riverside resorts in the area typically offer larger blocks of full-hookup RV sites. Cell service is spotty at riverside locations, and Wi-Fi at campgrounds is often limited or intermittent.
Expect a family and float-trip crowd in summer, with quiet hours enforced. Bugs, particularly gnats and mosquitoes, can be active near the water; standard repellent handles most conditions.

Travel into Canada may be allowed with host approval and appropriate insurance documentation, so message the host directly before booking if that's your plan. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend across that border. Pro tip: if you're planning a long multi-state loop, mention it in your booking request so the host can confirm mileage and cross-border details upfront.

For a weekend Sullivan RV trip covering 200 to 300 miles, budget roughly $80 to $150 in fuel for a Class C. To avoid any deposit issues on your RV rental in Sullivan, MO, do the pre-trip walkthrough carefully with photos, return the RV at or above the agreed fuel and tank levels, and communicate openly through RVezy's messaging if anything comes up. Pro tip: keep gas receipts from your final fill-up near Sullivan as proof.
