Campgrounds and RV parks near Barker, NY

The lakeshore is the main draw. The Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse, decommissioned by the U.S. Coast Guard in 1958, is part of Golden Hill State Park and is available for rental, and lighthouse tours run mid-May to mid-October, weather permitting, followed by a visit to the maritime displays at the visitor's center. Activities include boating, fishing, hiking, camping, picnicking, an 18-hole disc golf course, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing depending on the season. At Niagara Hartland RV Resort, on-site amenities include a swimming area, fishing, and kayaking on the eight-acre Lake Charles, a playground, and many walking and bike paths around the camp. Day trips reach Niagara Falls State Park, the locks at Lockport on the Erie Canal, and Medina's downtown and canal basin. Anglers target Lake Ontario for salmon, brown trout, and smallmouth bass, with charter boats operating out of Olcott Harbor just west of Barker.

The camping season here is short and concentrated. Golden Hill State Park's camping season runs mid-May to mid-October, with the Lighthouse Cottage requiring a 2-night minimum, and Niagara Hartland RV Resort operates May 15 through October 15. Private parks follow a similar mid-May to mid-October window, so trips outside those dates require checking each operator directly. July and August are peak. Weekends fill early for lakefront and hookup sites, especially around the Fourth of July, the Niagara County Fair in early August, and Labor Day. Late June and early September offer warm lake water with lighter crowds. Spring shoulder weeks can be cool and wet off the lake, and blackfly activity picks up in wooded inland sites in late May. Winter is not a camping season for RVs in this region. Winter activities are available, including snowshoeing and five miles of snowmobile trails that run through the park, but campsites are closed.

Golden Hill has a mix of hookup and primitive sites. Loop C features lakefront sites with water and electric hookups, while other areas provide more primitive camping experiences, and sites accommodate equipment lengths from 25 to 40 feet depending on location. The park has a boat launch, restrooms with showers, a dump station, picnic areas, a playground, playing fields, and nature trails. Private parks in the area tend to run larger. On-site amenities at Niagara Hartland include a playground, walking and biking trails, comprehensive RV hookups with 30/50-amp electrical, water, sewer, pull-through sites, dump station, laundry facilities, and grills. Pets are allowed at state park campsites with limits: a maximum of two pets is allowed in campsites and day use areas, and pets must be supervised at all times and either crated or on a leash not more than 6 feet in length. Cell coverage is generally reliable across the area; Wi-Fi varies by park.
