Camping near Boonville, New York
Boonville sits in Oneida County at the western edge of the Adirondack foothills, where the Black River Canal country meets the Tug Hill Plateau. RV travelers use it as a base for lake fishing, snowmobile and ATV trail networks, and day trips into the southwestern Adirondack Park. The village itself is small, with grocery, fuel, and propane available in town, which keeps resupply simple for larger rigs.
Campground options within a short drive range from private, family-run parks to two established New York State Park campgrounds. Stysh's Brown Barn Campgrounds and Singing Waters Campground offer private-park amenities close to the village, while Kayuta Lake Campground puts sites near a quiet reservoir popular for paddling and bass fishing.
For state-park camping, Delta Lake State Park sits on a peninsula in Delta Reservoir south of Boonville near Rome, and Whetstone Gulf State Park occupies a dramatic three-mile gorge cut into the Tug Hill Plateau south of Lowville. Both offer developed loops suited to travel trailers and Class C motorhomes.
Things to do around Boonville
Water activity anchors most trips. Delta Lake State Park has a swimming beach, a boat launch, and shoreline picnic areas on a large reservoir with fishing for bass, walleye, pike, and panfish. Kayuta Lake Campground gives direct access to a smaller lake favored by paddlers and anglers looking for a quieter setting.
Whetstone Gulf State Park is built around a canyon carved into the eastern edge of the Tug Hill Plateau, with a rim trail circling the gorge, waterfall viewpoints, and a man-made swimming area. Whetstone Reservoir above the gorge is stocked with tiger muskie and large-mouth bass. The surrounding area carries an extensive network of snowmobile and multi-use trails that convert to hiking routes in warmer months.
Boonville hosts the long-running New York State Woodsmen's Field Days on the third full weekend in August, drawing lumberjack competitions and forestry-equipment displays. Old Forge and the Fulton Chain of Lakes are within a reasonable day trip.

The RV season here is short and clearly defined. Most private campgrounds and both nearby state parks open in mid to late May and close in mid October, tracking the New York State Parks standard camping calendar. Late June through August delivers the warmest, driest camping weather and the fullest schedule of events, but it is also when weekends book out at Delta Lake and Whetstone Gulf.
Early summer brings blackflies and mosquitoes typical of the Adirondack foothills, easing by late July. September offers cooler nights, thinner crowds, and strong fall color through the first half of October, though overnight temperatures can drop close to freezing.
Winter is a distinct season locally. Boonville and the adjacent Tug Hill Plateau receive some of the heaviest lake-effect snowfall in the eastern United States, and while campgrounds are closed, the region draws snowmobilers to a maintained trail network. RV travelers should plan for a mid-spring through mid-fall window.

We had such a wonderful experience renting this RV! The owner was absolutely fantastic—so kind, accommodating, and incredibly flexible throughout the entire process. Communication was seamless, he was always quick to respond, and he went above and beyond to make everything easy and stress-free. The RV itself was spotless, in pristine condition, and clearly very well cared for. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and would absolutely rent from him again. Highly recommend!

We had an outstanding experience with this camper trailer rental in the Adirondacks last week. The unit was delivered right on time and was amazingly clean—everything inside was spotless and ready to go. It came fully equipped with everything we needed, so we didn’t have to scramble for any essentials. The host, Alex, was very friendly, professional, and informative. They took the time to walk us through the camper, answer all our questions, and make sure we felt comfortable before heading out. That personal touch really set the rental apart. We based ourselves near Long Lake and loved exploring the area. Highlights included grabbing ice cream at Hoss’s, catching some World Cup action at the Long Lake Diner and Owl’s Head Pub, and just soaking in the quiet lakes and mountain views. The Adirondacks never disappoint—peaceful mornings on the water and scenic drives through the woods made for some of our favorite moments. Overall, this was an easy, stress-free rental experience. Clean unit, reliable delivery, and genuinely helpful hosts. We’d happily rent from them again. Highly recommended!

How to book Boonville campgrounds
Delta Lake State Park and Whetstone Gulf State Park are reserved through the New York State Parks system on ReserveAmerica, online or by phone. Sites can be booked up to nine months in advance of arrival, and holiday weekends at both parks typically fill as soon as that window opens. A two-night minimum applies on weekends and longer minimums apply around holidays.
Private campgrounds near Boonville, including Stysh's Brown Barn Campgrounds, Kayuta Lake Campground, and Singing Waters Campground, are booked directly with the operator by phone or through the campground's own website. Seasonal sites take up a share of inventory at these private parks, so transient RV sites are limited and worth reserving early for peak weekends.
Confirm rig length, slide clearance, and hookup type before booking, since older loops in the state parks include shorter sites.
What to expect on-site
Delta Lake State Park offers electric hookups at many sites, potable water fill stations, a dump station, hot showers, and flush restrooms, but no sewer hookups at individual sites. Whetstone Gulf State Park is similar, with electric available at select sites in 15, 30, and 50 amp, a dump station, and shower buildings, plus wooded loops that suit tents and small to mid-size RVs; the park lists a 30-foot maximum RV length.
Private parks in the Boonville area generally offer a mix of full-hookup and water-electric sites, with Wi-Fi coverage that varies by location. Cell service is reliable in the village and along Route 12, but can drop off in the hills toward Tug Hill and inside the gorge at Whetstone.
Quiet hours are enforced at state parks, pets must be leashed and limited to two per site, and firewood must be sourced locally to comply with New York's rules on moving untreated wood.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Boonville, NY
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Boonville, NY?
RV rental in Boonville, NY is one of the most affordable ways to experience the southwestern Adirondacks. Travel trailers typically run $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $325 per night, and luxury Class A rigs can reach $400+ per night. To find a cheap RV rental in Boonville, book mid-week stays, target shoulder seasons like late May or September, and consider a travel trailer if you already have a tow-capable vehicle. Pro tip: avoid the third weekend of August, when the New York State Woodsmen's Field Days bring thousands of visitors and the best-priced rigs disappear fast.
iloveny.com/places-to-go/adirondacks/Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Boonville, NY?
Good news: a regular New York driver's license (or any valid state or provincial license) is all you need to rent an RV in Boonville, NY. No commercial driver's license (CDL) or special endorsement is required for any motorhome or travel trailer on the RVezy platform, even larger Class A coaches. You'll need to be at least 25 years old, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform when you book, so there's nothing to mail in or print out. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto club along with your home-country license and you're set to explore the Black River Valley.
dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/get-driver-licenseWhat protection is included with my Boonville RV rental?
Every RV rental in Boonville, NY booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Route 12 toward the Adirondacks knowing you are covered. The protection plan helps cover accidental damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level at checkout (not the host) so you can match it to your comfort and budget. While it is not traditional auto insurance, it gives renters real financial peace of mind. Pro tip: if you are a first-time renter heading into the foothills around Pixley Falls, choosing a higher-tier plan is an easy way to relax and enjoy the drive.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Boonville RV trip?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every reservation (not individual hosts), and it includes a grace-period window after booking during which you can cancel for a full refund. Beyond that, refunds depend on how far out you are from your trip start date, which matters in this corner of New York where lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario can change plans fast. If life shifts, just reach out to RVezy support and they will walk you through your options so you can rebook with confidence for your next Boonville RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Boonville, NY?
Absolutely, a pet-friendly RV rental in Boonville is easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search and you will see rigs whose owners welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Boonville is a dream for dog owners: leashed pups are welcome on the Black River Canal Trail, at Erwin Park along the old feeder canal, and on most BREIA hiking trails just east of town. Pixley Falls State Park, about 6 miles south on Route 46, also allows leashed pets in day-use areas with proof of rabies vaccination. Pro tip: message the host before booking to share your dog's size and breed; most Boonville hosts are locals who love pets themselves.
parks.ny.gov/regulations/pets.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Boonville?
Yes, RV delivery in Boonville is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers. Many local hosts will tow the RV directly to your campsite at Pixley Falls State Park, Kayuta Lake Campground in nearby Forestport, or a private property near Hawkinsville, then level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. That means no backing into a tight site and no figuring out the awning on your own. Use the Delivery filter on the listing search and message the host with your destination address. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer for Woodsmen's Field Days weekend, when driving a big rig through Boonville traffic is the last thing you want.
parks.ny.gov/parks/pixleyfallsHow far can I drive from Boonville on my RV trip?
You're perfectly positioned for an Adirondack RV road trip from Boonville. Old Forge and the Fulton Chain of Lakes sit just 25 miles north on Route 28, Lake Placid is about 110 miles northeast (roughly 2.5 hours), Watertown and the Thousand Islands are 50 miles west, Cooperstown and the Baseball Hall of Fame are about 75 miles south, and Niagara Falls is a 200-mile drive west via I-90. Each Boonville host sets their own mileage policy, with some offering generous daily allowances and a handful offering RV rental with unlimited mileage. Pro tip: filter by Unlimited Mileage if you're plotting a loop through both the Adirondacks and the Finger Lakes.
dot.ny.gov/indexWhere are the best campgrounds near Boonville, NY?
You've got some excellent options for RV camping in Boonville and the surrounding Adirondack foothills. Pixley Falls State Park (6 miles south on Route 46) offers 21 wooded sites with electric hookups right next to a 50-foot waterfall. Kayuta Lake Campground in Forestport, about 10 miles south, has full-hookup sites on a quiet lake popular for kayaking. Nicks Lake Campground in Old Forge, 25 miles north, sits inside the Adirondack Park and is a classic family base. For a small-town vibe, Hidden Lake RV Resort near Lowville is 20 miles north and offers full hookups and a pool. Pro tip: state park reservations on ReserveAmerica open 9 months ahead and Adirondack sites for summer weekends go fast.
parks.ny.gov/parks/pixleyfalls/details.aspxWhen is the best time to visit Boonville, NY in an RV?
The sweet spot for a Boonville RV trip is mid-June through early October, when daytime highs sit in the 70s to low 80s°F and nights cool into the 50s, perfect for campfires. July and August are warm and lively (think Woodsmen's Field Days in mid-August and the Boonville-Oneida County Fair), while late September delivers spectacular Adirondack fall foliage along Route 12 and the Black River Canal Trail. Boonville is also one of the snowiest spots in the Northeast, averaging over 200 inches a year, so winter RV trips are best for cold-weather pros chasing snowmobile trails. For mild weather and lighter crowds, aim for the second or third week of September.
weather.gov/buf/What if it's my first time renting an RV in Boonville?
First time renting an RV? You are going to love how easy it is in Boonville. Every RVezy host meets you at pickup (or at your delivery location) for a hands-on orientation, showing you how to run the propane, generator, slide-outs, water systems, and dump valves before you drive a mile. You can also message the host through the listing before booking with any questions about driving Route 12 or navigating the village streets. Boonville's quiet country roads and gentle Adirondack foothills make it an ideal place to find your confidence behind the wheel. Pro tip: ask your host for their favorite spot to grab a scoop at the Adirondack Cheese Company or a slice in the village, a local rite of passage.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I have a breakdown during my Boonville RV trip?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on Route 28 heading to Old Forge or a dead battery at a campsite near Forestport is just a quick phone call away. The roadside team coordinates tows, tire changes, lockouts, jump-starts, and fuel delivery, and RVezy's customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Cell coverage is solid in Boonville village and along Route 12, though it can get patchy deep in the Adirondack Park, so download offline maps before you head north. Pro tip: snap a photo of your RV's VIN and license plate before departure to speed up any service call.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Boonville RV rental into Canada?
Yes, cross-border travel to Canada is allowed on many Boonville RV rentals, and you're closer than you think: the Thousand Islands Bridge crossing into Ontario is just 75 miles northwest via I-81, putting Ottawa about 3.5 hours away and Kingston less than 2 hours. Because not every host's insurance extends across the border, message the host directly from the listing before booking to confirm Canada travel is approved on their RV. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: bring your passport (or enhanced driver's license), declare any food and firewood at the border, and budget extra time at Customs during summer weekends when Thousand Islands traffic peaks.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much will fuel cost for my Boonville RV trip?
Fuel is one of the easier costs to plan for. Gas in Oneida County typically runs a bit above the national average, and most Class C motorhomes around Boonville get 8 to 12 MPG, travel trailers tow at 10 to 14 MPG depending on your truck, and campervans can stretch to 18 to 20 MPG. For a typical 250-mile weekend loop (Boonville to Old Forge to Lake Placid and back), budget roughly $90 to $150 in fuel for a midsize motorhome. Fill up in Boonville or Utica before heading into the Adirondack Park, where stations get sparse and pricier. Pro tip: the Stewart's Shops in town and in Forestport are reliable, RV-friendly stops with easy pull-throughs.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Boonville?
Book early to lock in the best sites. New York State Parks like Pixley Falls open reservations 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and summer weekends (especially July 4th and the August Woodsmen's Field Days) sell out within hours of opening. Private campgrounds like Kayuta Lake Campground and Hidden Lake RV Resort take reservations directly and typically fill 2 to 3 months ahead for peak weekends. For shoulder-season trips in June or September, 2 to 4 weeks of lead time is usually plenty. Pro tip: if state park sites are full, check Hipcamp for private farm and forest stays in the Black River Valley, where Boonville hosts often know the owners personally.

parks.ny.gov/camping/What are driving conditions like around Boonville, NY?
Driving an RV around Boonville is refreshingly straightforward. Route 12 (the main north-south highway) and Route 46 are wide, well-maintained, two-lane roads with gentle Adirondack foothill grades, ideal for first-timers. Inside Boonville village, Main Street and Schuyler Street are easy to navigate, though watch for tight turns near the historic Hulbert House. Heading north toward Old Forge on Route 28, expect curvier roads and the occasional moose-crossing sign, so drive defensively at dawn and dusk. Winter brings serious lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario, often 200+ inches a year, which is why most local hosts only rent May through October. Pro tip: check NY 511 for real-time road conditions before any fall trip when early snow can surprise you.
511ny.org/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Boonville?
Campgrounds around Boonville offer a great mix of amenities. Pixley Falls State Park has 20- and 30-amp electric hookups, potable water spigots, a centrally located dump station, hot showers, and flush toilets, but no sewer hookups at individual sites. Kayuta Lake Campground and Hidden Lake RV Resort in Lowville offer full hookups (water, electric, and sewer), Wi-Fi, laundry, and propane refills on site. For free dump station access between trips, the Adirondack Park has stations at several state campgrounds and most full-service marinas around Old Forge. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank in Boonville before heading deep into the Adirondacks, where rural spigots can be seasonal or non-potable.
parks.ny.gov/parks/pixleyfalls/details.aspxWhat features and amenities come with a Boonville RV rental?
Boonville motorhome rentals and travel trailers come well-equipped. Expect a real bed (queen or king in most Class Cs), a full kitchen with fridge, propane stove, microwave, and sink, an indoor bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control with both furnace and roof AC, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many rigs include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, generator, outdoor speakers, and an awning for evenings around the campfire. Wi-Fi varies, but most hosts include a mobile hotspot or recommend a SIM-based option since signal can fade north of Forestport. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count to match your group; a family RV trip in Boonville often needs a bunkhouse layout, common on local travel trailers and Class C rentals.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Boonville%2C%20New%20YorkWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for Boonville RVs?
Boonville hosts offer flexible options to customize your RV rental in Boonville, NY. Common add-ons include linen and bedding packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits with pots, plates, and utensils ($25 to $50), portable generators, propane fire pits, bikes, kayaks, and folding camp chairs. Many hosts also offer delivery (typically $2 to $4 per mile beyond a free radius), full-tank refueling service, and dump-station service for return day. Mileage policies vary: most listings include 100 to 150 free miles per night with overage at $0.35 to $0.50, while some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for road-trippers. Pro tip: bundle delivery, linens, and a kitchen kit for a fully turnkey arrival; you will roll up to your campsite ready to relax.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Boonville%2C%20New%20YorkHow does the security deposit and payment work?
Payment on RVezy is simple and secure: you pay in full through the platform when you book using a credit or debit card, with no cash handed to hosts and no surprise charges at pickup. Each host sets a refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 for a Boonville campervan rental, motorhome rental, or travel trailer) that is held separately from your booking payment and released after a clean return. To avoid issues, do a quick walk-around video with your host at pickup and drop-off, return the RV with the agreed fuel and propane levels, and use the dump station before heading home. Pro tip: empty tanks and a tidy interior almost always mean a full deposit back within a few days.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksAre winter RV rentals available in Boonville?
Yes, but with a smart approach. Boonville is famously snowy (Tug Hill Plateau gets 200+ inches a year, making it one of the snowiest spots east of the Rockies), so winter RV rentals here are best treated as base camps rather than road trips. A handful of local RVezy hosts offer four-season rigs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and skirting, perfect for snowmobiling on the 500+ miles of groomed trails that run right through town or cross-country skiing on BREIA's 50 km network. Plan to park at a shore-power-equipped site (Hidden Lake RV Resort stays partially open) rather than boondock. Pro tip: filter for four-season RVs and message the host about cold-weather prep before booking your Boonville winter adventure.
