Campgrounds and RV parks near Westfield, NY

Lake Erie sits at the center of most trip plans. Renters can launch boats from Barcelona Harbor, book charter fishing on the lake, or drive to the high-bluff shoreline and cabins at Lake Erie State Park. Chautauqua Lake, a short drive south, offers boat rentals, sightseeing and dinner cruises on the Summer Wind, and access to the Chautauqua Institution during its nine-week summer season. On land, the Lake Erie Wine Country trail passes through Westfield and links more than 20 area wineries. The Grape Discovery Center in Westfield covers the region's grape-growing history and Welch's roots. Nearby Amish Country, Barcelona Harbor and Lighthouse, and the McClurg Mansion in the village give families rainy-day and non-boating options.

The Westfield camping window closely tracks the Lake Erie shore climate. Most private parks open by early May and close in mid-October. Chautauqua Lake KOA Holiday, for example, runs a season from May 1 through October 15, and other regional parks follow a similar calendar. Lake Erie State Park camping and cabins typically operate from mid-May through mid-October, with cabin loops reservable on the Reserve America portal. July and August are the busiest weeks, with the warmest lake temperatures, KOA pools running Memorial Day through Labor Day, and heavy weekend traffic tied to the Chautauqua Institution's nine-week summer season. Booking well in advance is important for holiday weekends. Spring and fall are quieter and cooler. Fall brings foliage and harvest at area wineries but also the wettest stretch of the year. Winters are cold and snowy along the lake, and overnight camping is not offered at the state park or the seasonal private parks during this period.

Sites at Westfield / Lake Erie KOA Journey run to pull-thru with water, electric, 50-amp, cable, and Wi-Fi, and premium sites hold larger rigs. The property has a stocked catch-and-release pond, a shale-bottom creek, two swimming pools, a dog park, and an on-site food truck. Lake Erie is a short walk away, with a public park across the street. Interstate 90 is close enough that some sites hear highway noise. Chautauqua Lake KOA Holiday spans close to 200 acres with pull-through sites, 50/30-amp full hookups, cabins, a heated pool open Memorial Day to Labor Day, two dog parks, and lake views. It is a gated campground with a gate card required after the office closes at 8 p.m. Lake Erie State Park is more rustic, with 99 sites (81 electric ranging 15 to 50 amps and a non-electric loop), 10 cabins, tree-shaded loops on high bluffs, a dump station, and showers.
