Campgrounds and RV parks near Alamance, NC

Outdoor time centers on the Haw River and Cane Creek watersheds. Paddlers use access points along the Haw for flatwater and mild whitewater sections, and Cane Creek Mountains Natural Area near Snow Camp has trailheads at Pine Hill and Oak Hill for hiking through Piedmont hardwood forest to views from the highest peak in North Carolina east of Greensboro. Cedarock Park adds mountain-bike and equestrian trails, a historic farm dating to the 1800s, and disc golf on roughly 500 acres. Families often build a day around Alamance's textile-mill history in Burlington and Graham, the Alamance Battleground state historic site, and the small downtowns for restaurants and shops. Day trips are easy in every direction: Greensboro's zoo-adjacent attractions and science center, Duke and UNC campuses in the Triangle, and Jordan Lake State Recreation Area for boating and swimming are all within an hour's drive.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in the Piedmont. From late March through May, daytime highs sit in the comfortable 60s and 70s Fahrenheit, dogwoods and redbuds bloom, and creek levels are typically high enough for paddling. September through early November brings cooler nights, lower humidity, and hardwood color that peaks in late October at the Cane Creek Mountains. Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon highs often in the upper 80s and scattered thunderstorms. July is the wettest month of the year, so full-hookup sites with 30 or 50-amp service are worth booking in advance because air conditioning matters. Insects and ticks are active, so treated clothing and repellent are useful on trails. Winter camping is possible but limited. Alamance County parks shift to shortened hours from November through March, closing at 6pm, and some private campgrounds reduce services or amenities during the coldest weeks. Snow is occasional rather than reliable, and ice storms are the more common weather disruption.

Most private campgrounds in the Alamance area sit on wooded acreage with a mix of pull-through and back-in sites, water and electric hookups, and at least partial sewer service. Cane Creek Campground and RV Park, for example, occupies roughly 80 wooded acres about nine miles south of I-85/40 and accommodates rigs from small tents up to fifth wheels and motorhomes with slide-outs, with 30 and 50-amp full hookup options. Cell service is generally reliable along the interstate corridor and thinner in the Cane Creek Mountains and rural southern county. Grocery stores, propane, dump stations, and RV supply are available in Burlington, Graham, Mebane, and Greensboro. Roads to campgrounds are paved but can narrow near rural parks. Drivers of larger rigs should preview the final approach on satellite view and avoid low-clearance covered bridges and older mill roads.
