Campgrounds and RV parks near Barnardsville, NC

Barnardsville sits in the Ivy River valley in northern Buncombe County, roughly 20 miles north of Asheville and directly against the Big Ivy (Coleman Boundary) section of Pisgah National Forest's Appalachian Ranger District. The area is rural, mountainous, and used mainly as a base for hiking, waterfall visits, and mountain drives, with quick access to the Blue Ridge Parkway at Craggy Gardens. RV travelers typically stage out of full-service parks in and around Asheville rather than inside the national forest itself, since Big Ivy is primarily primitive and dispersed camping on gravel forest roads. Campfire Lodgings and French Broad River Campground sit north of Asheville and are the closest developed options to Barnardsville. Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground, Asheville East KOA Holiday, and Wilson's Riverfront RV Park round out the nearby choices on the east and south sides of the city. Expect winding two-lane approaches, tight forest-road turns beyond the valley floor, and cell coverage that drops quickly once past the village.

Private RV parks near Barnardsville, including Campfire Lodgings, French Broad River Campground, Asheville East KOA Holiday, Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground, and Wilson's Riverfront RV Park, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For fall foliage weekends and major Asheville event dates, booking two to three months ahead is realistic, and popular sites at the KOA and Mama Gertie's can go earlier. Developed Forest Service campgrounds elsewhere in Pisgah National Forest are reservable through Recreation.gov, typically on a six-month rolling window. Dispersed camping in Big Ivy along designated pull-offs on FR 74 is first-come, first-served, has no reservation system, and follows the standard 14-day stay limit.
