Camping near Belmont, North Carolina
Belmont sits on the western edge of the Charlotte metro area, along the Catawba River and Lake Wylie near the Gaston County shoreline. The location gives RV travelers quick access to lakefront county parks on both sides of the North Carolina and South Carolina line, plus the interstate corridors that connect to Crowders Mountain, the U.S. National Whitewater Center, and downtown Charlotte.
Most of the camping options in the area cluster around Lake Wylie. York County's Ebenezer Park is a 26-acre park located north of Rock Hill on the shores of Lake Wylie and offers overnight stays in one of its 79 RV campsites or 5 tent campsites. Allison Creek Park is a 160-acre park on the shores of Lake Wylie, and its newly established campground has 33 full hook-up RV campsites and 16 primitive tent sites.
For families targeting the theme park, the 55-acre Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort offers cabin rentals and RV sites with full hookups. The Charlotte / Fort Mill KOA Journey and Fieldridge Acres round out the closer options for shorter RV stays.
Things to do near Belmont
Lake Wylie drives most of the recreation. Allison Creek Park offers 4 boat ramps, a kayak/canoe launch, a fishing dock, 4 miles of trails, a playground, and picnic shelters. Ebenezer Park features three boat ramps, a semicircular fishing pier, a designated swimming area, a kayak/canoe launch, a beach volleyball court, pickleball court, walking trails, and a playground.
Away from the water, Crowders Mountain State Park lies a short drive west with ridgeline hiking, and the U.S. National Whitewater Center sits north of Belmont with rafting, climbing, and mountain-bike trails.
For theme-park families, guests staying at Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort receive ticket package deals and a complimentary shuttle service to and from the park. Downtown Belmont adds the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden and a walkable main street for meals.

The lake region experiences hot, humid summers and mild winters, making spring and fall particularly popular for camping. Many campgrounds around Lake Wylie remain open year-round, though amenities may be limited during winter months. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F between June and August, making spring and fall the most comfortable seasons for camping in the region.
Summer is peak season on Lake Wylie, and weekends fill quickly at the county parks and Carowinds. The region experiences frequent afternoon thunderstorms during summer months, making morning activities preferable for water recreation. Book several weeks out for Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day weekends.
Fall brings cooler nights and lower humidity, and it overlaps with Carowinds' Scarowinds event, which drives cabin and RV demand on October weekends. Ebenezer Park stays open 365 days a year, though primitive tent areas may lack full potable water service in the coldest winter stretch.

This was my first experience personally using an RV rental service and it could not have gone better. Zack was very helpful and accommodating with all the questions and concerns I had and I would not hesitate to rent from him again. Pick up and drop off was very flexible. The unit was very clean. Everything worked as it should.

This was my first time renting a RV, usually do Airbnb or hotels, but I can honestly say, this was a great experience. The host was very attentive and helpful. It was a very nice RV, comfortable, just big enough for 4 grown adults to fit nicely. Was at a 3 day rodeo event and we also had the deck set up, very nice. However I did bring my own out door rugs to cover some of the stars and strips.

How to book campgrounds near Belmont
Reservation windows vary by operator. Ebenezer Park has 79 full hook-up RV campsites, each equipped with water, sewer, electric (50/30/20 amp), a fire ring with a grill, and a picnic table, plus 5 tent sites. The park is open year-round, and camping reservations can be made 13 months in advance, with a maximum length of stay of 14 nights. Allison Creek Park uses the same York County reservation system and 13-month window.
Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort books directly through the Carowinds resort site, often as a bundled package with park admission. Discounts may be available for Carowinds Season Passholders on select dates, and a valid Season Pass must be provided at check-in.
Private options such as Fieldridge Acres and the Charlotte / Fort Mill KOA Journey book through their own websites or the KOA app. Confirm rig length, hookup amps, and pet rules before locking in a site.
What to expect on the ground
Sites near Belmont range from full-hookup resort pads to primitive tent-only pull-ins. Level campsites with full hookups at Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort accommodate pop-ups and RVs up to 45 feet, with paved pads and 50-amp service on many sites. County-park RV sites at Ebenezer Park and Allison Creek Park sit on paved pads with 50/30/20 amp service, and staff enforce parking rules. RV campers may only park vehicles, trailers, and golf carts on the concrete pad at their assigned campsite; parking on the grass is not allowed, and vehicles that do not fit on the pad will be directed to the day-use lot.
Expect solid cell coverage across the Charlotte metro, warm and humid overnight lows in summer, and lake-adjacent bugs after dusk. Bring longer water hoses and extension cords for older park loops, plus shade for the exposed sites near the lake.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Belmont, NC
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Belmont, NC?
RV rental in Belmont is one of the most affordable ways to explore the Charlotte metro and the Carolina foothills. Travel trailers typically run about $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes range from roughly $175 to $300, and luxury Class A coaches can reach $400 or more. Booking midweek, traveling in the shoulder months of March, April, and October, and choosing a travel trailer over a motorized RV are the easiest ways to land a cheap RV rental in Belmont. Pro tip: hosts near US-74 and I-85 often discount weekly stays, so if you're planning a Lake Wylie or Crowders Mountain trip, ask about a 7-night rate before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Belmont%2C%20North%20CarolinaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Belmont, NC?
Great news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Belmont, whether you're picking up a campervan or a 32-foot Class C motorhome. North Carolina does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for non-commercial recreational vehicles. You'll need to be 25 or older to be an approved driver on RVezy, and you'll confirm your ID through the platform during checkout, which takes just a few minutes. Visiting from overseas? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country auto club before you fly in. That's it, you're cleared to head toward Lake Norman or the Blue Ridge.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs protection included with my Belmont RV rental?
Yes, every RV rental in Belmont booked through RVezy includes a protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit US-74 toward Wilmington or I-85 toward Asheville with real peace of mind. Protection covers most physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level at checkout (not the host), so you can pick the tier that feels right for your family. Roadside assistance is included with every protection plan and helps with flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers during booking and consider a higher level for longer trips through the Blue Ridge Mountains, where mountain roads add a bit more variability.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Belmont RV rental?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not the individual host), and there's a money-back grace period right after you book, so you have breathing room if plans change. Final refund terms depend on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. Because the policy is managed by RVezy and not displayed on individual listings, you'll see the exact terms during checkout and in your booking confirmation. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit. Pro tip: book early to lock in your dates for popular weekends like the Belmont Garden Party or events in nearby Charlotte, since you're protected by the grace period anyway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Belmont RV trip?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Belmont is easy to find: just use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see listings where dogs (and sometimes cats) are welcome. Belmont is a genuinely dog-loving town, and your pup will love walking the paved Belmont Riverwalk along the Catawba River or the grounds at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden (leashed pets are welcome on most pathways). Nearby, McDowell Nature Preserve on Lake Wylie has leashed-dog trails, and Crowders Mountain State Park (about 25 minutes west) allows leashed pets on most trails. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and whether they provide outdoor mats or tie-out hooks for your dog.
ncparks.gov/state-parks/crowders-mountain-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to me in Belmont?
Yes, RV delivery in Belmont is one of the most popular ways to book, especially if you're new to RVing or flying into Charlotte Douglas International Airport (about 15 minutes east). Many hosts will deliver and set up your motorhome rental in Belmont directly at a campground like Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort, McDowell Nature Preserve, or even a private driveway. They'll level the RV, connect water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees typically run a few dollars per mile round trip and vary by host. Pro tip: use the Delivery filter on RVezy and message hosts with your exact campsite or address so you get an accurate quote upfront.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Belmont%2C%20North%20CarolinaHow far can I drive on my Belmont RV rental?
You can roam widely from Belmont, and many hosts offer generous mileage or even RV rental with unlimited mileage, especially on travel trailers. Each listing shows the included miles per night and the per-mile rate beyond that, so there are no surprises. Popular drives from Belmont include Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway (about 130 miles, 2 hours west), Great Smoky Mountains National Park (about 200 miles, 3.5 hours), Wilmington and the Atlantic beaches (about 215 miles, 3.5 hours east), and Myrtle Beach, SC (about 180 miles, 3 hours southeast). Pro tip: if you're planning a longer RV road trip from Belmont, filter for unlimited-mileage listings or negotiate a flat weekly mileage bundle with your host.
ncdot.gov/travel-maps/Pages/default.aspxWhere should I stay in my RV near Belmont, NC?
You've got excellent campground options within 30 minutes of Belmont. McDowell Nature Preserve on Lake Wylie (about 15 miles southeast in Charlotte) offers RV sites with electric and water hookups, lake access, and hiking trails. Kings Mountain State Park in South Carolina (about 20 miles west) has electric and water hookups, a quiet wooded setting, and connects to Kings Mountain National Military Park. Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort (about 15 miles north in Fort Mill, SC) is the easy pick if you have kids who want a theme-park day. Charlotte/Fort Mill KOA in Fort Mill, SC has full hookups and a pool. Pro tip: the best campgrounds near Belmont book up fast for summer weekends and fall color, so reserve 2 to 3 months ahead.
mecknc.gov/ParkandRec/StewardshipServices/NaturePreserves/Pages/McDowell.aspxWhen is the best time to take an RV trip from Belmont?
Belmont sits in the warm, humid Piedmont of North Carolina, and the sweet spots are spring (mid-March through May) and fall (late September through early November), when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 65 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit range and the humidity finally backs off. Summer (June to August) runs hot and sticky with highs in the upper 80s to mid-90s and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, so plan on shaded sites and strong AC. Winter is mild with highs in the 50s, and many RVs and campgrounds stay open year-round. Pro tip: October is peak for RV camping in Belmont because the leaves turn along the Catawba River and the Blue Ridge is just two hours west at peak color.
weather.gov/gsp/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll be in great shape, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host in Belmont provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, covering how to operate the slide-outs, water, propane, generator, leveling jacks, and waste tanks. You can message your host with questions before booking, and 24/7 roadside assistance (included with your protection plan) is just a call away during your trip. For driving confidence, travel trailers and Class C motorhomes are the most beginner-friendly. Pro tip: for your first trip, book a campground close to Belmont like McDowell Nature Preserve or Carowinds Camp Wilderness so you can settle in quickly, then plan bigger adventures (like the Blue Ridge) for trip number two.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I have a problem on the road?
You're never on your own. Every RV rental in Belmont through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. Your host is also a direct phone call or message away if you have a question about how something works, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Belmont's location off I-85 means you're rarely more than 20 minutes from a service station or RV-friendly repair shop in Gastonia or Charlotte. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before you leave the pickup driveway, and snap photos of the RV's exterior at handoff for an easy reference.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I drive my Belmont RV rental into other states or Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is easy and common from Belmont. Most hosts welcome trips through South Carolina (the border is just 15 miles south), Tennessee, Georgia, Virginia, and beyond, which makes Belmont a fantastic launching point for an RV road trip from Belmont to the Smokies, Savannah, or the Outer Banks. Travel to Canada may be allowed with certain hosts, so message them directly to confirm before booking and to make sure protection coverage extends to that route. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because protection coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: a Charleston, SC loop (about 3.5 hours south) is a favorite long-weekend route from Belmont.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I expect?
Budgeting fuel for your Belmont RV trip is straightforward. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (mpg), Class A coaches 6 to 10 mpg, campervans 15 to 20 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (often 10 to 14 mpg while towing). Gas prices in the Charlotte metro tend to run close to or slightly below the national average, and you'll find plenty of large-canopy stations along I-85 and US-74 that comfortably fit big rigs. Pro tip: fill up in Gastonia or Belmont before heading west to the mountains, where prices climb noticeably once you pass Marion, NC on the way to Asheville.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Belmont?
Plan ahead and you'll get the site you want. For North Carolina State Parks like Crowders Mountain and Lake Norman State Park, reservations open up to 11 months in advance through the official ncparks.gov reservation system, and prime summer and October weekends fill within days of opening. South Carolina state parks like Kings Mountain use southcarolinastateparks.com on a similar window. Private parks like Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort and KOA Fort Mill typically open 12 months out. For a fall foliage RV camping Belmont trip, aim to book by July. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) usually have great availability even last-minute, so consider shifting your dates if a weekend is booked solid.
ncparks.gov/reservationsWhat is driving an RV like around Belmont and Charlotte?
Driving conditions around Belmont are very RV-friendly. The terrain is gently rolling Piedmont, the major routes (I-85, I-485, US-74, NC-273) are wide and well-maintained, and you'll find generous shoulders on most rural roads. Rush hour traffic on I-85 and I-77 through Charlotte gets heavy from 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6:30 p.m., so plan to roll out midmorning or after dinner. Summer brings strong afternoon thunderstorms (often between 3 and 6 p.m.), so it's smart to be parked by mid-afternoon in July and August. Pro tip: avoid Uptown Charlotte's tight streets with a big rig and stick to the I-485 outer loop, or book a host who offers RV delivery in Belmont to skip city driving entirely.
ncdot.gov/travel-maps/traffic-travel/Pages/default.aspxWhat amenities will the campgrounds near Belmont have?
You'll find a great mix. Full-hookup parks like Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort and Charlotte/Fort Mill KOA offer 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer, Wi-Fi, pools, and laundry. State parks like Lake Norman State Park lean more rustic, with electric and water at most RV sites and centralized dump stations (note: Crowders Mountain State Park is tent and backpack camping only, with no RV sites). McDowell Nature Preserve on Lake Wylie has electric and water hookups and a dump station on site. Fresh water fill stations are easy to find at any full-hookup park along I-85. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot water hose and a 30-to-50-amp adapter, since hookup locations on the site pad can vary widely from one campground to the next.
ncparks.gov/state-parks/lake-norman-state-parkWhat's inside the RVs available in Belmont?
RVs listed in Belmont come fully equipped for a comfortable trip. Expect a queen or king bed, bunks or convertible dinettes for kids, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave and sink, a bathroom with shower and toilet, roof and dash air conditioning, a furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many listings include a TV, Wi-Fi hotspot or signal booster, an outdoor awning, and an onboard generator (especially helpful for the humid Carolina summers). Linens, kitchen kits, and outdoor chairs are common host add-ons. Pro tip: filter your campervan rental Belmont or motorhome search by the exact sleeps count and check the photos for the layout: your back will thank you for picking the right bed configuration upfront.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Belmont%2C%20North%20CarolinaWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
RVezy hosts in Belmont make customizing your trip easy. Popular add-ons include linens and towel kits, kitchen packages, outdoor camp chairs and tables, generators on travel trailers, bike racks, and propane fills (pricing varies by host and is shown at checkout). Pickup is usually at the host's home address near Belmont, Mount Holly, or Gastonia, and many offer delivery to nearby campgrounds or Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Mileage policies vary by listing and you'll see included miles and any per-mile rate clearly during checkout. Pro tip: bundle linens, a kitchen kit, and a generator on a family RV trip in Belmont so you can roll straight from pickup to McDowell Nature Preserve without a Walmart run.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Belmont%2C%20North%20CarolinaHow do payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure through RVezy: you pay the rental cost, taxes, and any add-ons by credit or debit card when you book, all inside the platform (never pay your host directly). A refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment and is released after your trip ends, assuming the RV comes back in the same condition it left. The amount varies by listing and is shown clearly during checkout. To avoid any issues, do a thorough walkthrough with your host at pickup and dropoff, take date-stamped photos of the interior and exterior, and return the RV with the fuel and propane levels noted in your agreement. Pro tip: keep receipts for dump station fees or propane refills until your deposit is released.
