Campgrounds and RV parks near Catawba, NC

Catawba sits in the western Piedmont of North Carolina, in Catawba County between Hickory and Statesville. The area is defined by the Catawba River chain of lakes, with Lake Hickory to the north and Lake Norman to the south, both popular for boating, fishing, and shoreline recreation. Interstate 40 and Interstate 77 intersect just east of town, making the area a practical staging point for RV trips through the foothills toward the Blue Ridge Parkway. RV travelers have several nearby options that range from full-hookup resorts to family-run campgrounds. Cross Country Campgrounds and Lake Norman Motor Coach Resort serve travelers looking for lake access south of Catawba, while Hiddenite Family Campground sits to the northwest in the foothills. Statesville RV Park I-77 and Statesville / I-77 KOA Journey line the I-77 corridor, offering pull-through convenience for longer trips. Most campgrounds in the area operate year-round, though amenities such as pools and camp stores often follow warm-weather schedules.

Lake Norman State Park uses the North Carolina State Parks reservation system, bookable online through the state parks website or by phone up to 11 months in advance. The campground has 44 sites: sites 1 through 32 are non-electric with paved spurs and tent pads, while sites 34 through 44 offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer. Six camper cabins are also available. Check-in is 3:00 PM and check-out is 12:00 PM, and holiday weekends require a two-night minimum stay when booked more than 14 days out. Private campgrounds along the I-77 and I-40 corridors, including the KOA Journey and Statesville RV Park properties, take bookings directly through their own websites or by phone. Book several weeks ahead for summer weekends and holidays.
