Campgrounds and RV parks near Cherokee, NC

Cherokee sits at the southern entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, along the Oconaluftee River on the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians reservation (the Qualla Boundary). It is the closest full-service town to the Newfound Gap Road corridor, which makes it a practical base for RV travelers heading into the national park or driving the Blue Ridge Parkway, which terminates just north of town. RV options cluster in two bands. Private parks along US-441 and the river offer full hookups, pull-throughs, and amenities suited to longer rigs: Flaming Arrow Campground and RV, Fort Wilderness RV Park & Campground, Cherokee / Great Smokies KOA Holiday, and Happy Holiday RV Village all fit this category. Inside the national park boundary, Tow String Horse Camp - Great Smoky Mountains National Park serves equestrian users and requires that campers bring a horse. Elevations in town run near two thousand feet, with steep grades on nearby park roads. Larger motorhomes and trailers should plan routes carefully, especially on Newfound Gap Road and the approach to Clingmans Dome.

Private RV parks around Cherokee, including Flaming Arrow Campground and RV, Fort Wilderness RV Park & Campground, Cherokee / Great Smokies KOA Holiday, and Happy Holiday RV Village, book directly through their own websites or by phone. The booking window opens up to six months ahead on a rolling basis, and popular summer and October weekends are typically claimed the day sites release. Tow String is equestrian-only, has just three primitive sites, and typically operates April through October, so early booking is essential.
