Campgrounds and RV parks near Edneyville, NC

The main draw is Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park, where a 315-foot granite spire and Hickory Nut Falls anchor a network of family-friendly trails, including the interactive Great Woodland Adventure Trail geared to younger kids. Timed-entry reservations are required to enter the main access, so families should book tickets through Chimney Rock Management before arriving. DuPont State Recreational Forest is roughly a half hour south and holds the well-known Triple Falls, High Falls, Hooker Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls, with about 90 miles of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails. Pisgah National Forest, Sliding Rock, and Looking Glass Falls sit west toward Brevard. Closer to camp, Lake Lure offers swimming and boat rentals, Henderson County orchards run pick-your-own apple weekends in late summer and fall, and downtown Hendersonville adds shops, breweries, and easy family dining.

Spring, from March through May, brings mild days, wildflowers, and full waterfall flow. Trails in Chimney Rock and DuPont can still be muddy after storms, but crowds and humidity are lower than in summer. Most private RV parks reopen in April after winter closures, including Hickory Nut Falls Family Campground. Summer is the busiest season. Days are warm and humid, thunderstorms are common in July and August, and DuPont parking lots frequently fill by 9:30 a.m. on weekends and holidays. Chimney Rock recommends reservations for Memorial Day weekend, July 4th, weekends in July, Labor Day weekend, and weekends from October through early November. Fall foliage peaks in mid to late October and drives the highest campground demand of the year, especially at properties near the gorge. Winter is quiet. Hickory Nut Falls Family Campground closes at the end of November and reopens in April, and several other private parks reduce operations. Snow is light but possible from December through March, and elevation and shaded coves can hold ice on trails long after storms.

This is mountain terrain. Roads to campgrounds and trailheads are narrow and winding, and cell service is spotty across Pisgah National Forest and parts of Hickory Nut Gorge. Rigs longer than 40 feet should confirm site length before booking, since several nearby parks, including Hickory Nut Falls Family Campground, cap at that size. Campfires and cooking fires of any fuel are not allowed anywhere in DuPont State Recreational Forest under N.C. Forest Service rules, but they are permitted at Pisgah National Forest and at most private campgrounds. Waterfalls in the area are dangerous, and climbing on or jumping from them is prohibited. Bears are present, so food should be stored in the RV or in provided lockers. Recovery work continues at Chimney Rock and Lake Lure following Hurricane Helene, and some trails and river accesses remain affected, so travelers should check park and campground updates a few days before arrival.
