Campgrounds near Elon, North Carolina
Elon sits in Alamance County in the North Carolina Piedmont, roughly halfway between Greensboro and Durham along the I-85/I-40 corridor. The town is best known as the home of Elon University, and it makes a practical base for RV travelers exploring the Triad and Triangle regions. Well-equipped campgrounds are spread throughout Alamance County and the surrounding Triad, and most RV parks near Burlington offer 30/50-amp electric, water hookups, sewer or a central dump station, hot showers, Wi-Fi, and laundry.
Closest options for RV renters include Palmer/Anchorage N KOA and Cane Creek Campground and RV Park just south in Snow Camp, plus Wishing Well RV Park in the Burlington area. Jones Station RV Park and Campground sits a short drive east in Mebane, and Greensboro KOA Journey lies west toward the Piedmont Triad International Airport.
The terrain is rolling and wooded, with the Haw River and its tributaries threading the region. Most private parks in the area stay open year-round, while nearby state parks follow seasonal schedules. Elon's central location makes it easy to reach college-town restaurants, historic sites, and larger recreation areas like Jordan Lake within an hour's drive.
Things to do near Elon
Elon University's arboretum-style campus is open to visitors and works well for a slow walk with kids. Nearby, the Haw River Trail offers paddle access and riverside hiking, and Cedarock Park in Graham has more than 400 acres of trails and a historic farm site.
Haw River State Park, located in Rockingham and Guilford counties north of Greensboro, centers on The Summit, a residential environmental education and conference center, and offers trails and a boardwalk that lead into wetlands and a floodplain swamp. The park is day-use only for individuals and does not have drive-in campsites.
For lake recreation, Jordan Lake State Recreation Area in Chatham County includes seven access areas with more than 1,000 campsites across five accesses, and the lake is one of the largest summertime homes of the bald eagle. Alamance Battleground and the antique shops along the Antique Trail add rainy-day options.

Spring and fall are the strongest RV seasons around Elon. March through May brings mild days, blooming dogwoods, and the busy final stretch of the Elon University calendar, which can push local hotel and campground demand around graduation weekend. Fall delivers warm afternoons, cooler nights, and reliable color through October and into November.
Summer runs hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common from June through August. Shaded sites, like those at Jones Station RV Park and Campground, are worth targeting in July heat. State park campgrounds at Jordan Lake fill quickly on summer weekends, and entrance fees are charged per vehicle on weekends and holidays in April, May, and September, and daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Winter is short but genuinely cold at night. Snow is infrequent but possible, and ice storms occasionally disrupt travel. Most private parks in the area, including Cane Creek Campground and RV Park and Greensboro KOA Journey, operate year-round, which makes off-season stays practical for renters watching rates.

The Rv was exactly what we needed and the owner (Jonathan) was an incredible help. Jonathan takes great care of this RV and anyone who rents it will be pleased. But please treat the RV well, because I plan on renting again in the future!!

This is the best RV we’ve ever rented. So many little extras make this special. The Plush pillow top mattress in the master was a welcome surprise. Communication was great. No fuss drop off and pick up. Will definitely rent again if we’re in the area.

How to book campgrounds near Elon
Private parks around Elon typically take direct reservations by phone or through their own websites, with additional listings on Good Sam, The Dyrt, and KOA.com. Plan ahead: book 4 to 8 weeks out for spring and fall weekends, and further out for state park sites at Jordan Lake, which use the NC State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica. Private parks like Cane Creek Campground and RV Park and Greensboro KOA Journey can usually be booked 2 to 4 weeks ahead on weekdays.
For state park sites, use the NC State Parks portal on ReserveAmerica. Reservations must be made 1 day ahead of arrival and can be made up to 6 months in advance, and holiday weekends including Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day carry a 2-night minimum stay. Confirm your rig's amp rating and length before booking, since Piedmont sites vary in size.
What to expect on-site
Most RV parks near Elon are small to mid-sized and lean practical rather than resort-style. Cane Creek Campground and RV Park in Snow Camp provides full hookups with 50/30-amp service, additional power and water sites at 30 amp, and primitive tent sites, and it can accommodate everything from small tents to large fifth wheels and motorhomes with slide-outs. The park sits on roughly 80 acres about 12 miles south of I-85/40.
Jones Station RV Park and Campground in Mebane offers pull-through sites with full hookups. Greensboro KOA Journey and Palmer/Anchorage N KOA round out the KOA options west and near Elon, and Wishing Well RV Park adds another choice in the Burlington area.
Expect gravel pads, mixed shade, and modest bathhouse facilities. Cell coverage is generally solid across Alamance County, and grocery, fuel, and dump stations along I-85/40 make resupply straightforward between stops.

For first time renting an RV jitters, ask the host for a quick parking-lot lap before you leave. Summer afternoon thunderstorms can pop up quickly between June and August, so pull off if visibility drops. Winter occasionally brings ice (rarely heavy snow), usually January and February. Many newer rigs include solar, an inverter, and an onboard generator for boondocking. WiFi varies: some hosts include a hotspot, and cell coverage from major carriers is strong throughout Alamance County, so a personal hotspot works great. Seat belts are provided for safe travel (only ride in designated seats). Pro tip: check the listing's amenity list and message the host if a specific item, like a coffee maker or grill, is a must-have.

Delivery and setup is the biggest time-saver and often the best value if you're staying put at one campground. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a linen kit on your campervan rental in Elon NC and you'll arrive at Cedarock or Lake Mackintosh with nothing to do but enjoy the trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Elon%2C%20North%20CarolinaHow does payment and the security deposit work?

A refundable security deposit is held separately before the trip and released after drop-off, assuming no damage or policy violations. Keep your deposit safe by doing a thorough video walkthrough with the host at pickup and drop-off, sticking to mileage and generator limits, and returning the RV with the agreed fuel and tank levels. Pro tip: dump the black and gray tanks before returning to avoid a dump-out fee, an easy win every time.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park an RV overnight in Elon if I'm not at a campground?
You've got a few legal, comfortable options. Some Walmart locations in the area, including Burlington and Mebane, may allow free overnight RV parking with manager permission, so ask at customer service before settling in. Cracker Barrel locations along I-40/85 are also often RV-friendly for a single night. Within Elon town limits, overnight street parking of RVs is restricted, so plan to stay at a private campground or KOA instead. For a family RV trip in Elon, Cedarock Park and Hagan-Stone Park are easy paid options under 30 minutes away. Pro tip: always call ahead to confirm a Walmart still permits overnight RV parking, as policies change by store and local ordinance.
