Campgrounds near Elroy, North Carolina
Elroy sits in Wayne County in eastern North Carolina, just southeast of Goldsboro and within a short drive of the Neuse River corridor. The area suits RV renters looking for a quiet coastal-plain base with easy access to state park hiking, river paddling, and historic Goldsboro. Nearby options range from a state park campground with hookup sites to private RV parks with pull-through spurs.
Dalys Riverside Campground offers riverfront camping along the Neuse. Cliffs Of The Neuse State Park sits about 11 miles southeast of Goldsboro and anchors the region's public camping. Hidden Haven RV Park and North Pointe RV Resort provide private-park amenities for longer stays, while Kamper's Lodge Campground rounds out the shortlist for travelers wanting a smaller, quieter setting.
The surrounding terrain is flat pine forest and farmland, so most sites are easy to reach with a rental RV of any length, and US 70 combined with Interstate 795 provides direct routing from Raleigh and points east.
Things to do around Elroy
The main outdoor draw is Cliffs Of The Neuse State Park, where a bluff rises about 90 feet above the Neuse River. Trails wind through mixed hardwood forest to river overlooks, and the park has a swim beach, fishing pier, and pedal-boat rentals on a small lake during warmer months.
The Neuse River itself is popular for kayaking and flatwater canoeing, with easy launches upstream and downstream of the park. Anglers can target largemouth bass, catfish, and bream with a valid North Carolina fishing license.
In Goldsboro, visitors can explore the Wayne County Museum and Waynesborough Historical Village, which preserves the county's early history. The park visitor center also offers exhibits on the geology and natural history of the bluffs.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in the Elroy area. March through May brings mild highs, blooming dogwoods, and lower humidity, while September through early November offers warm days, cool nights, and thinner crowds after the summer peak. Both shoulder seasons see moderate rainfall, so awnings and rain gear are worth packing.
Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common from June through August. The Cliffs Of The Neuse swim area and river paddling see their heaviest use during this period, and weekend sites at the state park fill early. Insect pressure is real; mosquito repellent and screen rooms help.
Winter is short and mild, with highs typically in the low 50s Fahrenheit and occasional cold snaps. The family campground at Cliffs of the Neuse State Park is open year-round, and hookup sites remain available for RV renters comfortable with cool nights. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November and can influence fall travel plans.
How to book campsites near Elroy
Cliffs Of The Neuse State Park uses the North Carolina State Parks reservation system through ReserveAmerica. Reservations must be made one day ahead of arrival and can be made up to six months in advance. Holiday weekends including Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day carry a two-night minimum stay. The campground has 12 sites with full RV hookups, including potable drinking water, dedicated wastewater at each site, and 30- and 50-amp service, and these book fastest.
Private parks including Dalys Riverside Campground, Hidden Haven RV Park, North Pointe RV Resort, and Kamper's Lodge Campground handle reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. For summer weekends, booking four to eight weeks ahead is prudent; longer lead time is smart around holidays.
What to expect on arrival
At Cliffs Of The Neuse State Park, the front gate is closed and locked at posted closing times, and the combination is not given out after hours, so plan to arrive before the park closes. A reservation is forfeited if the park does not hear from the camper within 24 hours after the arrival date, so call ahead if travel is delayed.
Site occupancy is limited to one family or six people per site, with a limit of one RV and one tent, one pop-up and one tent, or two tents per site. A bathhouse with toilets and hot showers is available, along with potable water spigots and trash and recycling bins around the campground loop. A dump station is provided between sites 19 and 21. Private parks in the area generally offer full hookups, laundry, and Wi-Fi, though coverage varies.
