Campgrounds near Foxfire, North Carolina
Foxfire Village sits in Moore County in the North Carolina Sandhills, a short drive from Pinehurst and Southern Pines. Foxfire is a village in Moore County with a population of 1,288 at the 2020 census, located about six miles west of Pinehurst. The area is defined by longleaf pine forest, rolling sandy terrain, and small lakes, and it functions as a quiet base for RV travelers who want golf, equestrian trails, and Uwharrie-region outdoor access without staying in a resort town.
RV travelers can choose from a mix of private resorts, working-farm stays, and family campgrounds within roughly an hour of the village. Sycamore Lodge Resort in nearby Jackson Springs is the closest full-service option and typically the busiest, while Farm Pond Campground and Daily Walk Stables and Campground appeal to riders and families who want a rural setting. Idlewild Farm Stays adds an agritourism angle, and Zooland Family Campground sits near the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro for travelers combining Foxfire with a Uwharrie-area loop.
The surrounding public lands include Weymouth Woods Sandhills Nature Preserve and Uwharrie National Forest, both of which shape the region's camping and day-trip options.
Things to do near Foxfire
Day trips from a Foxfire base tend to split between Sandhills nature and Pinehurst-area recreation. Weymouth Woods Sandhills Nature Preserve offers longleaf pine trails and ranger-led programs, and the Walthour-Moss Foundation preserves miles of open equestrian trails just outside Southern Pines. Golfers will find dozens of courses within a short drive, including the historic Pinehurst resort complex, which has hosted multiple U.S. Opens.
Families staying at Zooland Family Campground can reach the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro in minutes, and Uwharrie National Forest adds hiking, mountain biking on the Wood Run trails, and paddling on Badin Lake. Equestrian guests at Daily Walk Stables and Campground or Idlewild Farm Stays can ride from or near the property. Fishing at the stocked pond, along with kayaking and swimming, is a common on-site activity at Sycamore Lodge Resort and the smaller pond-based campgrounds.

The Sandhills have a long RV season. Spring runs mild and green from March into May, with dogwood bloom and heavy longleaf pine pollen in April; this is prime weather for hiking and horseback riding before summer heat arrives. Many private campgrounds around Foxfire, including Sycamore Lodge Resort, operate year-round, but weekday availability tightens around major Pinehurst golf tournaments.
Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common from June through August. Shaded loops and sites with full hookups, useful for running air conditioning, are worth targeting. Tropical systems occasionally track inland from the Carolina coast between August and October, bringing heavy rain rather than direct hurricane impact this far inland.
Fall is the most comfortable stretch for camping. Days stay warm into November, humidity drops, and the longleaf understory colors up. September is typically the wettest month in the region. Winter is mild by North American standards, with freezing nights but frequent daytime highs in the fifties. Some seasonal amenities such as pools and camp stores reduce hours from December through February, so travelers should confirm services before booking.

How to book campgrounds near Foxfire
Private campgrounds in the Foxfire area, including Sycamore Lodge Resort, Farm Pond Campground, Daily Walk Stables and Campground, Idlewild Farm Stays, and Zooland Family Campground, are booked directly through each property's website or by phone. Weekend and holiday sites go quickly in spring and fall, and reservations six to twelve weeks out are typical for peak dates.
North Carolina State Parks in the region, such as Morrow Mountain and Raven Rock, use the state's ReserveAmerica portal and open a rolling six-month reservation window. Uwharrie National Forest campgrounds such as Badin Lake are reserved through Recreation.gov. Equestrian sites and pull-through RV sites are limited at most properties, so travelers hauling larger rigs or trailering horses should call ahead to confirm length, hookup type, and turning access.
What to expect
Sites around Foxfire vary widely in character. Sycamore Lodge Resort is a 194-acre wooded resort with full hookups, a pool, hot tub, stocked lake, and planned activities, while Farm Pond Campground and Idlewild Farm Stays lean rural and quiet with fewer neighbors. Daily Walk Stables and Campground is set up for guests traveling with horses. Zooland Family Campground, further north near Asheboro, is oriented around families visiting the zoo.
Cell service is generally reliable across Moore and Randolph counties, though it can drop inside Uwharrie National Forest. Roads into the smaller farm campgrounds are often sand or gravel, so drivers of longer rented motorhomes should ask about approach angles. Insects, ticks in particular, are active from spring through early fall, and standard precautions on trails are recommended.
