Campgrounds and RV parks near Greenville, NC

River Park North, a 324-acre city nature park on the Tar River, anchors outdoor recreation in Greenville with hiking trails, five ponds, two fishing piers, kayak and pedal boat rentals, a fossil pit, and the Walter L. Stasavich Science and Nature Center. The park is a stop on the NC Birding Trail, with bald eagles, osprey, herons, wood ducks, and prothonotary warblers commonly seen. Paddlers can put in on the Pamlico-Tar River Water Trail, which links Greenville to camping platforms downstream. About 34 miles southeast, Goose Creek State Park offers a cypress-swamp boardwalk, swim beach, and Pamlico River shoreline. Families staying at Twin Lakes RV and Camping Resort have direct access to bay fishing and pool amenities on site.

Greenville has a humid subtropical climate with hot, muggy summers and short, cool winters. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel: April, May, and October bring mild temperatures, lower humidity, and clearer skies, making them the strongest booking periods for private parks and state park sites. Summer is peak season for families and paddlers, but heat indices routinely climb past 100°F in July, and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Late summer and early fall also fall within the Atlantic hurricane season, which peaks from August through October and can force short-notice closures at coastal parks like Goose Creek State Park. Winters are quieter and generally mild, with occasional freezes and rare light snow averaging about three inches a year. Most private campgrounds near Greenville, including Tranters Creek Resort and Campground and Twin Lakes RV and Camping Resort, stay open year round, which suits snowbirds routing along US 264 or I-95.

Sites near Greenville tend to be grassy or gravel pads under mature pines and hardwoods, with full 20/30/50-amp hookups standard at private parks. Expect biting insects in warmer months, especially mosquitoes and no-see-ums near the creeks and swamps, so screens and repellent are worth packing. Cell service is generally reliable close to town but can drop off along river bottoms and inside Goose Creek State Park. Grocery, fuel, and RV supply runs are easiest from campgrounds on the west and south sides of Greenville, near US 264 and NC 11. Check-in windows vary by park, but North Carolina state park sites open at 3 p.m. with a noon check-out. Pets are allowed at most locations on a leash, including at Goose Creek State Park campsites, though not inside camper cabins.
