Campgrounds and RV parks near Grifton, NC

Water recreation is the main draw. The Neuse and Pamlico rivers and Contentnea Creek support fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and small-boat cruising. Twin Lakes RV and Camping Resort has its own boat ramps to Chocowinity Bay, plus a swimming pool, playgrounds, basketball and volleyball courts, and a game room that keep kids busy on rainy afternoons. At Cliffs Of The Neuse State Park, families can hike roughly 3 to 4 miles of trails, including a route to a cliff overlook above the Neuse River, and picnic under reservable shelters. The park also has a swimming area and offers seasonal boat rentals. Off-park, day trips reach historic New Bern about 30 minutes south, Greenville to the north, and the waterfront district of Washington to the northeast.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows. From mid-March through May and again from late September into November, daytime highs sit in the comfortable 60s to 70s Fahrenheit, humidity drops, and mosquitoes ease off. State-park sites and Thousand Trails weekends fill fastest during these shoulder months, so booking as far ahead as the system allows is wise. Summer is hot and muggy. Highs commonly reach the upper 80s and low 90s with humidity above 75 percent, and afternoon thunderstorms are frequent. Pools, shaded RV sites, and river access become priorities. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, peaks in August and September, and can trigger closures and flooding along the Neuse and Pamlico. Winters are short and mild by North American standards, with highs typically in the low 50s and overnight lows near freezing. Cliffs Of The Neuse and Twin Lakes both stay open year-round, though some amenities such as swimming areas, boat rentals, and concession stands close in the off-season.

Terrain is flat, sandy, and heavily wooded with loblolly pine and hardwood. Sites at Cliffs Of The Neuse are sandy enough that a mat outside the RV door helps keep grit out, and fire ants are common in eastern North Carolina, so watch where kids and pets sit. The park gate closes at posted hours and does not reopen overnight for late arrivals. Cell coverage is patchy in the more rural parks. Twin Lakes offers spacious sites that can handle larger rigs, with pull-through, full-hookup options. Cliffs Of The Neuse RV sites are spacious but have length restrictions worth confirming when reserving. Bring bug spray, sun protection, and a plan for afternoon storms in summer.
