Campgrounds and RV parks near Kernersville, NC

Kernersville itself has walkable downtown blocks, Fourth of July Park, and the historic Körner's Folly house museum built by Jule Gilmer Körner. Winston-Salem's Old Salem district and Greensboro's Science Center and arboretum are both short drives, useful for a rainy-day pivot when the campground is wet. Outdoor options cluster around the water and the foothills. Oak Hollow Lake supports boating and fishing from Oak Hollow Campground, though swimming in the reservoir is not permitted since it serves as a drinking water source. Paddlers and tubers use Dan River Campground and River Adventures as a put-in for floats on the Dan River. Hiking families typically point the tow vehicle toward Hanging Rock State Park for trails to Hanging Rock, Window Falls, and Moore's Knob, with a swim lake operating from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Spring runs from March through May and is one of the busiest booking windows. Daytime highs climb from cool to warm, dogwoods and redbuds bloom across the Piedmont, and Hanging Rock's waterfalls run strong from spring rain. Expect thunderstorms and occasional severe weather in April and May. Summer, June through August, brings hot and humid conditions with afternoon storms. Reservoir campgrounds near High Point stay busy on weekends, and the swim beach at Hanging Rock State Park operates from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Sites at popular state and municipal campgrounds often fill weeks in advance around holiday weekends. Fall, September through November, is the most comfortable season for RVing in this part of North Carolina, with lower humidity and hardwood color peaking in late October in the foothills. Winter, December through February, is cool but rarely snowbound. Some seasonal facilities close or reduce services, bathhouses at Hanging Rock close during winter to prevent frozen pipes, and freeze warnings are common overnight, so RVers should manage water systems accordingly.

Hookup availability varies widely by property. Greensboro KOA Journey and Oak Hollow Campground both offer full-hookup RV sites with water, sewer, and electric, and Oak Hollow adds cable and Wi-Fi at its 100-plus RV sites with 30 or 50 amp service. Sunset Park Campground in Walnut Cove has full-hookup sites with 30 to 50 amp service, though internal roads and the approach include unpaved sections and a narrow bridge crossing. Hanging Rock State Park's family campground is tent and trailer only without RV hookups, and its bathhouses close in winter to prevent frozen pipes. Cell coverage is generally good near Kernersville and along the interstates, and weaker in the foothills near Hanging Rock. Check length limits and site slopes before towing in, since paved pads at Oak Hollow are sloped and require leveling blocks.
