Camping near Locust, North Carolina
Locust sits in Stanly County on NC-24/27, roughly 25 miles east of Charlotte and about 15 miles from Concord. The town is a practical base for RV travelers who want quick access to the Charlotte metro without staying inside it, plus an easy drive east toward the Uwharrie National Forest and Lake Tillery.
Campground options in the immediate area lean toward small, family-run RV parks. Yates Family Camping and Ver-El RV Park and Campground offer nearby full-hookup sites, while Glenwood Acres RV Park and Apollo RV Park round out the local choices. About 20 minutes northwest in Concord, Camping World Racing Resort at Charlotte Motor Speedway operates as a large full-service park with hundreds of sites.
Most of the region is rolling Piedmont terrain with mixed hardwood forest, small farms, and reservoirs. Winters are mild, summers are hot and humid, and the shoulder seasons are the most comfortable for extended RV stays.
Things to do around Locust
Motorsports drive much of the local tourism. Charlotte Motor Speedway hosts NASCAR Cup, Xfinity, and Truck series races, plus NHRA drag racing at zMAX Dragway and dirt-track events. Behind-the-scenes speedway tours run on most non-event days. Concord Mills, one of the state's largest outlet and entertainment complexes, is a short drive from Camping World Racing Resort.
Outdoor options are close. Uwharrie National Forest, Morrow Mountain State Park, and Badin Lake sit east of town for hiking, paddling, and fishing. Lake Norman and the U.S. National Whitewater Center are within an hour to the west. Uptown Charlotte adds pro sports, museums, and the Carowinds theme park south of the city.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in the Locust area. April and May bring warm days, cool nights, and blooming dogwoods, while October delivers dry weather and Piedmont fall color. These months also align with major race weekends at Charlotte Motor Speedway, which push demand at nearby campgrounds well beyond normal levels.
Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common from June through August. Shaded sites and full electric hookups for air conditioning become important. Lakes and rivers in Stanly and Montgomery counties draw heavy weekend use.
Winter camping is viable. Freezes occur but hard, extended cold snaps are uncommon. Most local RV parks stay open year-round, though some amenities like pools and bathhouses may run on reduced schedules. Race-week traffic still peaks around the Bank of America ROVAL event in the fall and the Coca-Cola 600 weekend in late spring.

This was my first experience personally using an RV rental service and it could not have gone better. Zack was very helpful and accommodating with all the questions and concerns I had and I would not hesitate to rent from him again. Pick up and drop off was very flexible. The unit was very clean. Everything worked as it should.

Cannot say enough good things about our experience renting from Corey. Very helpful with the renting process and what to expect. I chose the drop off option and it went very smooth - Corey gave a detailed rundown of the RV making sure I knew the basics. Everything was as described, well maintained, and just what we were looking for for our few days away. Corey was quick to respond when I had any questions and made sure everything was good. Highly recommend renting from Corey!

How to book near Locust
Independent RV parks near Locust, including Yates Family Camping, Ver-El RV Park and Campground, Glenwood Acres RV Park, and Apollo RV Park, generally take reservations by phone or through their own websites. Availability is easiest to secure on non-race weekends, and shorter stays are usually flexible.
Camping World Racing Resort at Charlotte Motor Speedway books through the speedway's official reservation system. Event stays follow set check-in and check-out windows tied to each race, and popular NASCAR and NHRA weekends sell out months in advance. Non-event daily camping is available year-round and can be reserved separately.
For national forest camping in the nearby Uwharrie region, reservations run through recreation.gov on a rolling six-month window.
What to expect on site
Local RV parks around Locust are generally straightforward: gravel or grass pads, 30 and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer at most sites, with laundry and bathhouse facilities on property. Cell coverage across major carriers is reliable, and most parks offer Wi-Fi near the office.
Camping World Racing Resort is a larger operation with gravel full-hookup sites, pull-throughs sized for big rigs, showers, a store, a playground, and a dog park. Race weeks are loud, crowded, and social, with practice sessions sometimes running into the evening.
Expect Piedmont clay underfoot, mosquitoes and ticks in summer, and occasional strong thunderstorms. Leveling blocks are useful, since many rural sites in the area are only roughly graded.
