Campgrounds near Louisburg, North Carolina
Louisburg sits in the north-central Piedmont of North Carolina, on the Tar River in Franklin County, roughly 30 miles northeast of Raleigh. The town works well as an RV base for two of the state's largest reservoirs: Falls Lake to the south and Kerr Lake to the north, both managed as North Carolina State Recreation Areas.
Kerr Lake lies north of Henderson near the North Carolina-Virginia border and includes 3,376 acres of woodlands along the shores of the 50,000-acre man-made Kerr Lake. Nearby camping options include Tobacco Farm Campground, plus Nutbush Creek - Kerr Lake State Recreation Area, Satterwhite Point - Kerr Lake State Recreation Area, and BW Wells Group Campgrounds.
To the south, Falls Lake is a 12,000-acre reservoir with several access areas, and Holly Point - Falls Lake State Recreation Area is the main family campground on its shoreline. Together, these parks give RV travelers a range of lakefront and wooded sites within about an hour of Louisburg.
Things to do around Louisburg
Water recreation drives most trips. Kerr Lake is a premier fishing destination, renowned for its plentiful bass, catfish and crappie, and all access areas feature at least one boat ramp. Satterwhite Point and Nutbush Creek both offer boat launches, swim areas, and shoreline trails.
At Falls Lake, Holly Point sits directly on the water. Campers regularly cited large, shaded lakefront sites and clean facilities as major draws, with excellent lake access for swimming and boating, alongside a family-friendly atmosphere and helpful staff. Fishing is popular from the shoreline and small boats, and short hiking trails link the campground loops to the water.
Off the water, Louisburg's small downtown, the Tar River greenway, and day trips to Raleigh for the state museums round out a family itinerary.

The camping season across the two lake systems runs from spring through fall, with peak demand tied to the school calendar. At Falls Lake, entrance fees are charged per vehicle on weekends and holidays in April, May, and September, and daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day, with free day-use access the rest of the year. Summer weekends and holidays book earliest.
Most Kerr Lake campgrounds run seasonally, though a few stay open longer. Most campgrounds are open from Easter into the fall, but Nutbush, J.C. Cooper, and Satterwhite Point are open year-round. Shoulder seasons in April, May, September, and October usually bring lower humidity and easier reservations.
Ongoing construction affects planning. Kerr Lake SRA has ongoing extensive construction to improve campgrounds and restrooms, and beginning August 1, JC Cooper, Nutbush Area 1 (North), Nutbush Area 3 and 4 (South), and Hibernia are closed for the season. At Falls Lake, Holly Point campground is closed for construction and will reopen by November 16. Confirm status before booking.

awesome experience renting an RV from Heather and Edgar! we rented their RV for a trip to california. and it was the best experience we could have asked for. they are super nice people and the RV was awesome. they were very responsive and honest about the whole process. if we had questions, they were very helpful and prompt. we would not hesitate to rent from them again. being new to the RV world, we were a little unsure about the process but they made renting a simple and painless experience. would rate them an +++A. afa the RV, it was wonderful for our trip. everything worked as it should and the vehicle made for a fun family vacation. definitely a unique opportunity to see this great country we live in. if we take trips in the future, we would definitely love to use the RV again. if you are looking for an RV vacation, look no further.

How to book campgrounds near Louisburg
Both Kerr Lake and Falls Lake use the North Carolina State Parks reservation system, powered by ReserveAmerica. Reservations must be made 1 day ahead of arrival and can be made up to 6 months in advance. Summer weekends at lakefront loops tend to fill as soon as the six-month window opens.
Some sites are held for walk-ups. At Kerr Lake, sites 127-131 in Area 3 are walk-up sites, reserved onsite at the campground and available on a first-come, first-served basis only. Private options such as Tobacco Farm Campground are booked directly with the operator.
For group trips, BW Wells Group Campgrounds handles larger parties by reservation through the state system. Check hookup type when booking, since Kerr Lake sites are electric-only at the loops that offer RV hookups.
What to expect at the campgrounds
Sites at the state recreation areas are wooded, with mixed pine and hardwood shade. The campgrounds are laid out with a mix of tent pads and RV-friendly sites, with electric and water hookups at many loops, and most sites are generous in size with enough tree cover for privacy. Standard amenities include picnic tables, fire rings, and bathhouses with hot showers.
Hookups are limited at Kerr Lake. Full hookups are not available, but at Bullocksville there are sites with water and electricity, and County Line, Henderson Point, Kimball Point, Hibernia, Nutbush, J.C. Cooper, and Satterwhite Point have RV sites with electric hookups.
Rules are consistent across the state parks: posted quiet hours, leashed pets, no alcohol, and firewood purchased on-site to prevent pest transfer. Falls Lake campgrounds provide 24-hour access for campers when sites are reserved or occupied during the operating season, and campers receive an after-hours emergency phone number at check-in.
