Campgrounds and RV parks near Polkville, NC

Polkville sits in Cleveland County in the western Piedmont of North Carolina, roughly halfway between Shelby and the South Mountains foothills. The town serves as a quiet base for RV travelers heading to the state park lands and lakeshores that ring this corner of the state. Within about an hour's drive, campers can reach South Mountains State Park, the rolling terrain around Golden Valley, and the shoreline of John H. Moss Lake near Kings Mountain. The mix of options covers full-service resort parks with pools and cabins, a public state park with family and equestrian loops, and smaller lakeside and creekside campgrounds better suited to shorter rigs. Elevations near Polkville sit around 900 feet, rising sharply to the north and west as the terrain climbs toward the Blue Ridge. That location gives the area a humid subtropical climate with long warm seasons, mild shoulder months, and only brief cold snaps in winter, keeping most private campgrounds open year round.

Reservations for the Family Campground at South Mountains State Park are handled through the North Carolina State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica, and campers can book up to six months in advance. All arrivals must stop at the Visitor Center to register and pick up a hang tag, and gate closing times are strictly enforced. Moss Lake Campground, operated by the City of Kings Mountain, takes reservations online through Campspot and posts its stay-length and cancellation rules on the city's website. The two Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort properties, including the Golden Valley location, book directly through their own resort websites. Buffalo Creek Campground handles bookings through its operator. For summer holiday weekends and October fall-color dates, plan on reserving well in advance.
